If you are the least bit familar with the monorail resorts you know that you only need to hop on the monorail and get off at the TTC and then can hop on the epcot line.Now if you wanted to go from 11.30 to 6.00 you would either need to walk which is a long one from GF and not feasable from the CR.Or find alternate transportation to TTC. So thus now you have a greater hassle to go to epcot.Also if you have listened to our handicapped friends on these boards they have stated many times the monorail is a much much more convient way to get around in scooters to the parks.This makes a bigger mess for them too.Kinda throws a monkey wrench in it for them too! You also can not rely on the fact that it may start ahead of schedule either.

Nobody needs to "find" alternate transportation to the TTC. Disney provides it, in the form of buses, most likely (but i dont know or sure) fin front of each resort with the other buses. It would seem this is even more efficient for GF guests than the monorail, since there would at most be only one other stop, at the Polynesian.

The monorail isn't necessarily all it's cracked up to be for guests on wheels, actually. Oh, sure, the wheelchair or scooter doesn't need to be tied down like it does on a bus; you can usually get more wheeled guests on a monorail train than on a bus (but you should be able to do that, since the train has about 3.5 or four times the capacity of a bus); general access is easy at a resort.

Some drawbacks? The ramps at MK and TTC. It's bad enough with a scooter, but imagine pushing someone (or wheeling oneself) up ur down a steep ramp - not an issue waiting approaching a boat or bus on a flat surface; I've never been stuck on a perfectly-operating bus, but - shades of Charlie on the MTA - if no CM brings the ramp, you're not getting out.

True, you can't and shouldn't rely on the monorail going back into service early. Given that at least two of the five days since this began, it has started running early, it's probably safe to say you can count on it starting up again on time .

To the first question YES. I absolutely would never pay the kind of money that the OP paid a night and not have monorail service for 6 and 1/2 hours a day,hardly a few hours.These are hours when I have stayed at the poly in the past that swimming and eating are top prioities.I have also found the other watercraft servicing the poly in the past to be way slower than monorail.If memory serves they stop at the GF and poly both,so it is not as quick.Especially if they are not running alot of them. The answers to your other two questions are no and no.However I would see no reason for a cast member to lie about people switching. I think quite few people including myself think the poly and GF prices are extremely high,especially in peak season which it is now. I realize not everyone shares the same financial boundaries so I understand that the difference of opinion can come from an affordability point.

There are 2 areas with fast access to parks, MK area and Epcot. Usually people book the one they expect to visit more. So if you book MK resort, is it reasonable to say you plan to spend more time at MK then at Epcot or other parks? So if you plan to go for midday breaks mostly from MK, how booking Epcot area or other areas will help? Is it clear that even with possibly slower boat service, you will still spend less time for transportation? Is it reasonable to believe that people will choose Epcot or DHS as their primary parks just because they do not want to waste extra 30 min or maybe even an hour, which I do not think they will, a day?
I find it highly unlikely.

I probably wont' stay at a "monorail" resort (and I will continue to call them that) (oops, put the apostrophe in the wrong spot by mistake) for quite some time.

and it wouldn't "ruin" my trip if the monorail was down, but it would sure put a huge damper on it. and I agree with the MANY posters who think disneyshould hav einformed (oops, hit that space bar agina) them(oops, typo).

I also think that disney should ahve informed us that there were HUGE soccer tour groups from Brazil staying at the value resort we booked for 2 nights. had we known, we would have paid more to stay at a moderate resort... and actually gotten some SLEEP!!
COMMUNICATION it's a funny thing. and a good business practice.

I ahd some "regular"customers call to make a reservation at the restaurant (I am a server).. they like to sit in the room by the fireplace. I informed them (even tho they didn't ask) that that whole room was booked for a private party. (very unusual) they declined.
good business? they didn't come in that week.. I think it was GREAT business. I took GREAT care of repeat customers, they came the next weekend..
I don't believe in LYING.. or .. in "lies of omission".

tell customers what's what. explain the whys and wherefores, and let them make their own decision. fair is fair.

I guess I really don't see the big deal. It's not like it's completely closed for the duration of the trip. It's open in the morning before 11 when most people are going to the parks. It's also open in the evenings when most people are leaving the parks. If you need to return to your resort in the middle of the day or get to one of those resorts for an ADR, there are water shuttles (or ferries, or whatever they call the water transportation) and buses to the monorail resorts. It's not like you are stranded in the parks.

If you don't like it, then call Disney and request to be moved to another resort as apparently others have already done. There isn't much that Disney can do in this situation since the works has to be done and there aren't ANY days that the parks are fully closed when they can work without inconveniencing anyone.

Honestly, if something like this minor inconvenience is enough to seemingly ruin your whole vacation, you need to take some deep breaths and re-evaluate what's really important.

I don't know how much clearer I could have been that I was having fun with the typo. I wasn't calling you out. I'm not sure how that wasn't clear in my disclaimer

Really? Could I ask why you think providing additional perks/privileges to some guests based on what resort they choose would, at the same time or ever, result in Disney denying access to those same properties to persons not staying in/at them?

Really, we went through this, when monorail service were eliminated last year(extra magic hours and party nights). Why do guests leaving the park, after regular hours, need service to the monorail resorts...if they aren't staying there? Okay, maybe..for dining reservations, but NexGen could have that info readily available, and allow those guests, access to the resort monorail. All guests will still have access to the TTC monorail. So, don't get the "additional perk/privilege.
