Absolutely unacceptable

You know as I continue to read this thread it seems to me that we are forgetting the massive price tags attached with the rooms in question. I feel for the OP, when we have stayed at the poly we sacrificed in so many other aspects of the vacation for the convience of the monorail and ease of going to the room to avoid the high cost of food in the park and go swimming in the middle of the day. We forked over more than we ever payed for a room because of the ease of monrail access. Now if I found out 2 days before I went that all the money I spent to have this access was drastically reduced I would be extremely upset! Funny how alot of people think disney shouldn't compensate those staying there during this period, but disney has no problem asking for extra compensation because it is in their eyes a peak season! Simple put something should be done for those who are staying in these high end rooms to make up for it,after all aren't these the "deluxe" resorts,or is that only a part time name or better yet a name to use for price alone? I for one am sorry OP, disney needs to plan this out better and let people know before they book the monorail may be down,of course that would drastically reduce the number of people who want to pay the primo bucks to stay there!

Here's the thing. The folks on this forum aren't the people who can provide any compensation at all. We're innocent bystanders in this exaggerated drama. So what was the point of this thread, if not to throw a tantrum and get attention for having done so?

Contacting Disney with a rational discussion of why the value of the resort was diminished without use of the monorail is a reasonable course of action. Throwing a hissy fit on a 3rd party forum is just childish behavior.

Ah yes,but participating in the thread, does this constitute childish behavior or just a good debate? I really think it was just frustration by the OP and wanting someone to talk to, and the rest as they say is history.:cool1:

Just heard from my cousin whose family is leaving Saturday for WDW. She called to change their reservation from the GF to YC because The CM asked her why and she told them because of the monorail. He said that said lots of people are calling to change from the monorail resorts for the same reason.
Apparently, DIS boarders are not the only ones concerned about this issue.

Oh, I get frustration and the need to vent. However, there's a bit of a limit to how excessive you get with 3rd parties and I think this one went over that line. Rather than getting most folks to sympathize with the reason, I think the dramatic venting just turned off a lot of people.

So if someone were to scroll to your 746 posts, they could not find one complaint from you about anything on the DIS? :rolleyes1

I think part of the feelings of some of the posters comes simply from the title of the thread "Absolutely Unacceptable". It has a way of sounding like a spoiled person throwing a temper tantrum. I can understand the disappointment of finding out so near to the beginning of a trip that a ride, show, or in this case a perk of a hotel would not be available throughout the day, but I would just try to overlook it and make the best of a situation. We've all been to Disney when something was not working properly or available. Granted those attractions may not have come with a more expensive hotel, but sometimes things just happen. Rides close. Refurbishments need to be done. Complaining may get some free goodies, but it's not going to cause the monorails to run as they normally do.

I'm a little confused? Isn't the main monorail from the Magic Kingdom to the ticket and transportation center still running? Isn't it just the hotel loop that will be closed? Please correct me if I am wrong? But if so, couldn't you just take the monorail to the main entrance and then have a short walk to the Poly???

Not sure if this point has been touched on (and I don't have time to read through all these replies at the moment :surfweb: ) but it's not like it will be closed for that whole block of time. Yes, it's a smidge inconvenient but this is a slower season for Disney and I'm sure they'd rather do it before Spring break and summer crowds make it even more crowded.

By all means, write out a complaint but I completely agree with the poster who said that the monorail is NOT the resort. Enjoy the Poly because it's THE Poly! I hope that when you need the monorail during those hours it's operational but if not, there are other methods to get back to the hotel in one piece :)

This is Spring Break! Spring Break season usually kicks off Presidents Day weekend and runs clear through to the week after Easter.. not sure where you got that this is before Spring Break. It may be for your area school, but my school is off this coming week, my DD's college is off this current week ...Spring Break is in full swing... Disney is stating that the next week is Peak Season as far as rates go..(Summer is considered regular season...) if you are paying peak rates, you should be getting peak service..

No, both the MK Express monorail from TTC is closed, as well as the resort loop. This is due to Grand Floridian DVC construction. Everyday guests traveling to MK and parking at TTC will take water transportation to MK during this time (and they might add buses... note that when the majority of the crowds come in the morning before 11:30 AM and leave at night after 6:00 PM, the monorail will be running).

Nope, both loops are closed during the announced hours. The Epcot line is unaffected.

I guess I really don't see the big deal. It's not like it's completely closed for the duration of the trip. It's open in the morning before 11 when most people are going to the parks. It's also open in the evenings when most people are leaving the parks. If you need to return to your resort in the middle of the day or get to one of those resorts for an ADR, there are water shuttles (or ferries, or whatever they call the water transportation) and buses to the monorail resorts. It's not like you are stranded in the parks.

If you don't like it, then call Disney and request to be moved to another resort as apparently others have already done. There isn't much that Disney can do in this situation since the works has to be done and there aren't ANY days that the parks are fully closed when they can work without inconveniencing anyone.

Honestly, if something like this minor inconvenience is enough to seemingly ruin your whole vacation, you need to take some deep breaths and re-evaluate what's really important.

#1 - personal preference

#2 = no idea, what's your point?
Clarification. You said "going to", as opposed to "in/at". I was curious how much of that 60-70% would be spent in transit vs how much would be spent in the park.

Yes. Browbeat. It's a really real word, not hyphenated or made up or anything. Look it up.
Thank you for clearing that up; it looked like a personal attack to me.

As well they should, there is nothing at all wrong with expecting to get what you pay for.
Perceived value is different from monetary value. There's no charge to use the monorail. That, combined with all the other features and benefits of staying in a Seven Seas Lagoon resort, indicates that there can't be a valid compensation.

Which would include *drumroll*...... direct monorail transportation.
Include but not be limited to. Apparently, sufficient alternate (bus) transportation will be provided in addition to the ramped-up boat service.

Again, your point?
The ability to make lemonade out of lemons, instead of the reverse. Your point?

Oh that's just hysterical.
I find it interesting that you have no qualms about throwing insult after criticism after attack at me, but when I provide 100% accurate information about a word that every Disney fan should know automatically (mini-brag: I really did, I didn't have to Google it), you get huffy.

Well, we don't discuss world problems, unless they're about DisneyWORLD.;). Let's not confuse the issues.

I would be very displeased, if I rented beachfront property, but arrived to find access was unavailable, except durning morning or eveninging hours. I don't care, if I could take a bus to the beach. It's not the reason, I paid big bucks for a beach house.

Okay. For your example to be even somewhat equal to the monorail situation, the beach would have to be shut down from about 7 to 10 AM and again from 5 to 8 PM (off-, and the landlord/rental company would be providing you with an alternate beach or beaches to use during those hours.

I say 'somewhat equal to' because it's unlikely - but admittedly not impossible - that someone would expect or intend to use the monorail for three to six straight hours.

I can never bring myself to stay at a deluxe because we spend all our time in the parks. If I would be the op, I would be very upset and switch resorts.

Having said that, my experience when OMDD ended and lots of people were leaving at the same time was that the ferry was faster than the monorail and held a ton of people. It really absorbed the crowds so I figure even if the op stays at Poly, it won't be so bad. Especially since we are talking about off peak hours and won't be as crowded.

Well if it makes you feel any better, today they opened back up around 3. Yesterday it was closer to 5. If you're going to complain to the CMs at the resort, please be polite and act like a grown-up. That poor front desk college program kid didn't want the monorail to be closed either. He didn't make that decision and probably hates it more than you do.

That makes absolutely no since. They should of scheduled it during the slow time!
