In order to swim in SAB, we must now show our room key and wear an orange wrist band that is given to us at the gate. And so it goes.

We where at BCV on July 1-2 and no one even checked our ID's. We walked right into the pool. Of course it was later in the evening, 9:00 p.m. or so and it wasn't that crowded. But if they are going to enforce no pool hopping, shouldn't it be all the time?

If it's 9:00 pm and the pool is not crowded I doubt they're worried about hoppers. They just want to be sure BC and BCV guests aren't inconvienced by extra people.

by 9pm they are getting ready to close the pool and shortening the staff.

Stinson, What time of day was it? Was the pool crowded? Just curious? Thanks!

We were there this past week. We would go in the morning and leave for lunch and it wasn't too bad, but after lunch, it looked packed. They start giving out wrist bands when SAB opens at 9 am.

This is not a new thing at Y & BC. Prior to DVC ownership, we always stayed at BC and were quite often asked for resort id and issued a wristband. Granted in Jan when it was 65 degrees they were not as vigilant as at peak summer and holiday times. Many have reported not being checked at off peak or late in the day, but it is not a new policy to check id's

No its not new. We have stayed at the BC many times and this is standard procedure for them. This past Februry we pooled hopped while we were staying at the BWV and they checked ID's and gave out wrist bands. I remember quite a few years ago when they gave you a stamp on the back of your hand. I liked that method much more.

June 22 - 26th and they were checking ID's all day. That is how you got your towels. What I didn't see was anyone walking around the pool and checking to make sure everyone there had wrist bands. So what is to prevent someone from bringing their own towel, and entering at the end of the pool where the slide comes out? We came in that way several times, and there was no one there.
IMHO, they really do need to check ID's, especially with all the added guests now that BCV is open.

I have been there when they did have someone walk around and check id's. Last time they had people posted at all the entrances (including by the slide) checking ids before you came in.

Are they checking IDs at the new BCV pool as well?

I'm wondering how crowded (or not) the BCV pool has been? How does it compare in size and atmosphere to the other quiet BC pool?

They were not checking IDs at the quiet pool. There always seemed to be a few people swimming in the pool. At night, there were a lot more swimming. Never was too crowded though.

Steph,
I was there the same time as you and was immediately asked to show ID about 5 minutes after i walked in. I showed them my WLV room card (this was before 7-1) and was given the orange wrist band and one for every member of our party in the room. However, i made a point to watch people come and go and most people were allowed in w/o being stopped to show ID and alot of people were swimming w/o the bands at all. This is only the second time since 1997 that we've even pool hopped; it was fun while it lasted i guess.

We will be staying at BCV in Sept., and I was wondering if they were checking ID's at SAB. But I also wonder if the overcrowding was always due to pool hopping by DVC members. I mean if they don't always check ID's, whats to stop the locals from piling the kids in the car, parking at BC or BW, and spending the day at either BWVs pool or at SAB?

At SAB, they are checking ID's at every entrance from about 9:00 a.m. to about 7:00 p.m. If you are staying at the Yacht Club, Beach Club or Beach Club Villas, you will be allowed in and are given an orange wrist band. (My daughters wear the wrist band around their ankle and no one seems to mind). I came a few minutes after my wife, who had the room key, and was not allowed in until my wife came over to rescue me. I also tried to enter without an ID, while fully clothed and without bathing suit, but was refused entrance. You will not be allowed in to SAB without a Yacht Club, Beach Club or Beach Club Villas room key. I wore the orange wrist band in the water for several hours yesterday and I did not notice it on my arm.

As for the quiet pool, it is unsupervised. Anyone can enter and use it. There is seldom more than eight people in the quiet pool. The hours are 7:00 a.m. to midnight, but last night I noticed six young adults (twenty-somethings) who were in the quiet pool at about 1:30 a.m.

We've been here for 7 days now and I still love this resort.

Just remember....DVC members aren't allowed to take up permanent residence in a DVC resort. ;) So nice to hear that BCV is living up to expectations!
