Absolute CHEAPEST Motel

That does sound slightly disturbing. However, to give you an idea of the kind of person I am, I once took a trip to New York City with a friend and we slept at the base of the Empire State Building one night, on the sidewalk around the corner from a White Castle the next night, and in a crowded youth hostel the last night. Yes, I did almost get robbed of my meager possessions that night at the Empire State Building by a drunk weird guy who thought I was some friend of his from Argentina, but I woke up and talked him out of taking my backpack.

Now, having a wife and kids, the outside sleeping is no longer an option, so some kind of enclosed space will be necessary. Also, showers are good to have.

Yous a ballsy little feller, ain'tcha? When you decide on which of the available dream suites you'd like to catch your Z's in, would you mind letting the rest of us know? I'd like a stab at robbing you*, as your Disney possessions will be MUCH cooler then whatever you had on you at the base of the Empire State Building, ESPECIALLY since that's what you're spending all your money on. I promise to leave the wife and kids out of it. :rotfl::rotfl2:

*Please note: This is a joke. I would NEVER rob anyone...you know, unless they had something that would really rake in the dough. ;)

I totally understand the sentiment expressed here. I too hate to waste a lot of money on hotels. I do need my room to be clean, but other than that, I just don't care. I sleep there, shower there, and get dressed there. That's it! I want to spend eight hours sleeping, two hours getting everybody to bed and then ready in the morning and other than that, I want to be at the parks!

You're just like me :goodvibes
Got any places that you recommend? (cheap, but clean)

That's all that really matters! :lmao: Cheap and clean.

The thing is, I can handle any level of motel room and bed, but a nasty old slime pool in the middle of the parking lot is not so interesting. If I could be sound asleep in the pool, not that big of a deal, but since I have to be awake and pretend to enjoy it, no thanks. Maybe I can find a motel so cheap, the pool will be crusted over and unavailable.

Hahaha, if you manage to find a motel with a pool like that, please document it with pictures. That is beyond hilarious. Like the original and previous posters, I agree with what's being said here - I like to spend my time at Disneyland, could care less about the hotel! Heck, I'll bring my own sleeping bag, mirror, and portable toilet...as long as there's a place to shower, I'm good.

goreesha you are absolutely hilarious and I can see where your coming from - you are just in your sleep! We stayed at Hojos, but the cheapest place we found when we were doing our research for our trip earlier this year was the Eden Roc Inn and Suites. Pretty terrible reviews, but a place to put your head down at night and would be walking distance.

I have to step in here and give my own review of Eden Roc & Suites.

Last year (March 2008), I booked 3 hotel rooms here for me and my extended family. The hotel was actually named Parkside Inn & Suites. I booked the hotel through hotels.com for $39 per room. The rooms had a mini fridge and they served a continental breakfast. The reviews were BAD, but it was within walking distance and I thought -- who cares?? I am only going to be sleeping here! :rotfl2:

We checked in and we were horrified. :scared1: The people in the room next to us had just gone to bed and found bugs all over their sheets. They were packing up their luggage to leave as fast as we were unpacking ours for our stay. :rotfl:

My mother-in-law called my cell phone from her room to tell me NOT to open the fridge. Their were bugs crawling around in her fridge.

We were stuck. We had already paid for 6 nights through hotels.com, and I couldn't believe we were going to have to sleep here for that long. The lights in our room didn't work (except for a small one by the bed), so I never got to REALLY check out the cleanliness of the room. The continental breakfast was a joke that was only served until 7:00 AM! :rotfl:

I ran down to the lobby (the only place with wi-fi connection) and spent a while booking a new hotel on hotwire.com for only $60/night. It was the 3 star Holiday Inn & Suites and was completely awesome. Then, I spoke for over an hour to a customer service rep at hotels.com trying to cancel the reservation for all 3 rooms and get a refund.

We did end up sleeping there that night. I hardly slept. I was sure I had bugs crawling all over me. My socks were black on the bottom from walking on the carpet. Traffic noise was awful and our outside door didn't lock securely. I was never so happy to get out of there. :lmao:

I once thought I was a 1 Star Hotel person (never spend more then you have to for ONLY a bed), but now I know that I am actually a hotwire.com convert. Our hotel was so nice and the price was right. That is the way to go. You can always search www.betterbidding.com to try to decipher which hotel you will be getting before you accept their price. Give it a try!! :cool1:

We booked the Motel 6 across the street from DLR for about $50/night in December. I heard it's clean!

I would go to hotels.com (or any other hotel website), type in your dates, and then sort the listings by price; cheapest first.

Priceline could be a good deal, but a couple things to keep in mind:

1) You said "walking distance", but you might get a hotel over a mile away. Most do have shuttles (either free or paid).

2) Some hotels through Priceline may have a "resort fee".

We won a $45 bid on Priceline back in March and got the Crowne Plaza. It was over mile from Disneyland and has a $12/day resort fee.

You also never know what kind of huge parking fee you might get stuck with when bidding on Priceline. Just something to consider. Depending on the price, it might be worth it. I just got a 4* in Phoenix right after Xmas for only $50 total after taxes, and was lucky to get a resort with no parking fees. But I would have gladly paid parking fees since a 4* there is usually at least double to triple that.

I'd also recommend Anaheim Plaza Hotel. Pretty cheap, easy walking distance, large rooms, very clean, nice pool, etc. We usually get the basic room for around $50-$60. They do charge $4/day for parking.

We're the same way. I travel with teenagers who can sleep confortably on my wood floor and well, you know what teenager's bedrooms tend to look like. haha We've stayed at Anaheim Plaza at a $59 rate. It was big and decent enough to sleep and shower in. For the same price though, we prefer HOJO. Gotta love that entertainment card rate.

when are you going? And are you driving to the hotel? I looked up Little Boy Blue hotel which claims $39 and "1 block from DL"

Next Summer. First week of June. $39, now that's what I'm talking about. Little Boy Blue, sounds classy, I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Were they bed bugs? Because bed bugs can happen even in a really nice hotel. If they were some other kind of bug, like roaches or ants or daddy long legs or rhinoceros beetles or whatever, then I guess I'll just have to bring my own bug spray and roach motels. I can handle that for $39 a night. And my wife grew up in the country where bugs rule the earth, so she can handle it, too. Eden Roc. Man, these cheap motels all have weird names. I love it!

Nope, not bed bugs. I didn't see them, but our "neighbors" said they were pretty big and they were crawling all over, underneath the top sheet. We did not have bugs anywhere IN our bed -- trust me, I looked long and hard before crawling under the covers! :lmao:

The bugs that were crawling around in the fridge were cockroaches.

FYI, the room I just booked through hotwire was $49/night and it is a 3 star. The walk will be about .75 miles from the main gate, but we can handle that! :thumbsup2 We leave in 4 days!!

I have also seen a hotel matching the Little Boy Blue hotel on hotwire before. It may be worth looking into -- hotwire may have a better rate than booking direct. Check www.betterbidding.com to see if you can find it on hotwire.

I used to do PR for Eden Roc, an upscale waterfront resort in Miami Beach that was famous with celebrities ever since the Rat Pack and has rooms for $400 plus a night. I wonder if they would be interested in knowing about their sister property on the west coast...

I think Motel 6 Maingate is 55 a night...really cheap and not too far from the parks...we've stayed there about 3 times and it's totally clean!

I've seen the Ramada LIMITED (not the Maingate on Harbor) on Beach for about $40 a night, but you can't walk from there, you'd have to drive. Most of the DLR walkable hotels are about $50-60 a night. Good luck!
