last night ... my SIL and her family of 7 (5 kids) decided that they would really like to come to WDW next summer... would be they're first disney trip ever. "kids" are (or will be) 22 to 8 .. so no babies

we figure the best way for them to go is rent points (or have them transfer to my DVC account) and book a 2 bedroom... they dont care what resort.

15 year old is wheelchair user ... we've narrowed resorts down to BCV or SSR

my question is when do i start making inquries regarding renting pts?

the 11 month window will be september 12th.

also ... do you think it's even possible to rent 300 points?

thanks for any input :wave2:

It's definitely possible to rent 300 points.

Start looking for points when you are serious about moving forward. As a DVC member, you already know that renting points is not a risk free proposition and is usually a "final" transaction. Both of those are minimized if you decide to transfer the points needed into your account. If you go that route, be sure that the points you receive will be valid for the dates of the desired trip. The easiest is to buy from someone who has the same use year as you do, but it's not absolutely necessary to do that. If you want the 11 month booking window, you'll need to buy points from a BCV or SSR owner.

Summer isn't the most difficult time to book, so I'd wait until I was reasonably certain the trip would happen before starting to look. If you are certain now, it's not too early - especially if you decide on BCV. That one you should try to book before the 7 month window opens. Since SSR is so much larger, you can wait a while before committing.

Best wishes -

If their dates are absolutely set in concrete and WILL NOT change, you could start any time. Starting early will give you time to locate an owner who has points, hopefully a BCV owner which would give you the 11 month window at either resort. Then you could get everything all set up and be ready to book when the 11 month window opens.

Another strategy would be to wait until around 8 months out, but that might not be a great strategy for BCV. I don't own there, so I don't know, but you might have some difficulty getting a 2-bedroom there late in the 11-month window. I'm sure you'd be fine at SSR.

Sure. You see people all the time advertising 300-600 points to rent, and I'm sure they'd love to rent a big bunch of points all at once.

One thing you will want to consider is whether it is better to have the other owner make the ressies or have the points transferred to your account. If you are going to have points transferred in, be sure you understand the ramifications of the different home resort, banking deadlines in the event of a cancellation, end of use year, etc, etc.

Obviously, you will have total control if the points are in your account, but if there are any problems (like unexpected cancellations), those will be in your account as well. If your SIL is going to use your account, she needs to clearly understand that DVC is not like a hotel reservation and cancellations (or even changes) can sometimes carry very bad consequences.

Renting a ressie from another owner makes the reservation an arms-length transaction with a stranger, and there are some benefits to that. Obviously, your SIL would have to have the same non-cancelable mindset either way.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I have 300 pts. SSR that I will be looking to rent in the next few weeks. It will be 150 from March 2005 UY and 150 pt for March 2006 UY. If I understand correctly, when points are transfered for the 2005 UY it can be specified which UY the receiving party wants them to be placed (2005 or 2006)? Also, the 2006 UY would be for reservations in 2006 UY only and could not be brought borrowed.

If this is correct, great! (If not, I see the experts here and sure they will advise) Drop me a PM.

Thanks Gang,

Thanks Jim and Carol for your advice and encouragment... i will firm up the dates and let them know about that cancelling is not an option before i proceed.

OnMedic ... um this may be a case of the blind leading the blind. i will look into things and see if what yor're proposing is an option.

i will PM you if things look okay

thanks all!

Here is an clip from the rules...

"All Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points retain the Use Year of the transferring Club Member and expire at the end of the transferring Club Member's Use Year, unless they are Banked.

Once Banked, Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points will expire at the end of the Transferring Club Member's next Use Year, unless they are used. In addition, Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points cannot be un-Banked or returned to their original Use Year."

Looks like we are good once you confirm your SIL's committment.

Thanks
