We haven't rented these before but would like to this trip. I know you need to be 12 to drive one - but can two go per "mouse"? Could my three year old ride with DH or I? If not, I'll talk up the pontoon boat rentals instead.

Thanks for any insight!

If I remember right there is/was a weight limit of 300lbs , being a large man I had my niece ride with my Mom because we couldn't do it together.

Yes, 2 per "mouse". Although a 12 yo can drive, he must be accompanied by a license driver.

The boats at the monorail resorts are faster.

I believe a licensed driver is only required at the monorail resorts because the Sea Raycers are faster there due to more space to drive. My DS13 drove one by himself at DTD this past January. They went past SSR and I think OKW. He was frustrated because he said they were slower than the ones we drove together two summers ago at the Poly.

That might be true. Although I did hear someone being told that this was new policy. :confused3

DH 13 at the time drove a water mouse at OKW, with DD. He was much better than I, who ran aground and had to be rescued  Luckily they didnt charge me extra for getting stuck. :rolleyes1 I cant wait to try the sea racers they look great!

The water mice at OKW are definitely slower than we're used to. We rented them last summer and my dh and ds said "never again". They much prefer the ones at the Contemp and the WL. Two can go on one water mouse, but it will slow them down (a CM told us this at the WL).

My son could not wait to turn 12 so he could drive by himself. That same year, they changed the rules. :sad2:
It does make sense and is in the best interest of all of us.
At the Magic Kingdom resorts, you have the ferry traffic and other Disney watercrafts navigating the waters. Those mice are faster and only at those resorts, you can drive at 12 but you must be accompanied by a liscensed driver. You can drive alone at 16 with a drivers liscence. The rule is sensible.
Everywhere else, the boats are slower and a 12 year old can drive alone.
We took my son over to the Carribean Beach Resort and rented there. He said it wasn't worth it. They were too slow.
As for how many can fit, 2 can ride with a combined weight of 325.

Just read this thread and it got me wondering if my mom who has no license will be able to rent one at the monorail resorts? I am an adult and have a license will that be enough for the two of us each getting separate boats? We are going for 2 weeks in august its her first time back in almost 30 years! I would like to do all the extra stuff there is at Disney with her besides the parks too. I have done these myself before... so much fun....and yes the ones at Monorail resorts are better....faster!!! :boat: I would like for the both of us to rent our own..especially since together in one we might be coming right in at the weight limit :crowded: Anyone know if an adult with out a drivers license can rent one? Thanks... And sorry OP if I am intruding on your question. :)

When we rented them in October we were both asked to show valid driver's licenses. DH had left his in the car and did have to go get it. I'm not sure how it would have been handled had we claimed he did not have one.
