? about using banked points

I have 133 points for this year. (April use year)

I want to use 53 for March and bank the rest for a reservation next summer.

So when I make the July 2008 reservation I will use the 80 banked points along with some of that years points for my reservation.

OK......*IF* I need to cancel the March reservation and I do it by Dec. 31 (I can bank 50% by then), can I bank those 53 points and then have them use those for my July reservation which will already be in place so that I can have the 2008 points freed up to bank next year if I need to?

Does this make sense/

In other words, my july reservation will have:

80 banked points

120 points from 2008

If I cancel my March reservation and bank those points, and I apply those to this reservation and put 53 points from 2008 back into the current year?

Let me get this straight. You have 133 points right now with an April UY. You want to use 53 of those for a ressie next March. No problem there. And you want to bank 80 points until next UY. No problem there. If you canceled your March reservation and you are within your 50 % banking window you CANNOT bank those 53 points because you have already banked 80 points and that was more than 50 % of your total, which I am assuming is 133 points. Does that make sense? The banking limits are cumulative.

you cannot bank any of those 53 points. You have already banked 50% (actually more) of your total points for the year. You would need to use those points before the end of your use year, so a March stay would be demanded. You could not use them in your July vacation since they are from a prior use year and not banked. So by December, it's a use them or lose them situation since you are using them in the last month you can before they expire.

Once you are in your 50% banking window, (months 7, 8 and 9 of your Use Year) you can bank up to 50% of your annual allotment, including any points banked earlier in your Use Year. What is your annual allocation? Is it 133 points per year? If so, if you bank 80 points during your 100% banking window, once you are into your 50% banking window you will not be able to bank any more points since the 80 points already banked are more than 50% of your allotment.

Points from your master contract and all of its add-ons are considered pooled when calculating banking percentages. So if you own at least 266 points in total across all related contracts, and you have not banked any points from these other contracts, then you could bank those additional 53 points during your 50% banking window.

If you can bank those 53 points then yes, I believe MS would be able to substitute the newly banked points into your reservation and free up 53 2008 points that you could then bank into your 2009 UY.

Oh! I didn't realize that was how it worked.

We have 150 points (but have already used 17 of those, so that is why we havve 133).

I guess I thought I could bank as many as I wanted by September and then up to another 75 at December.

I'm so glad I asked. Since our March trip is something we aren't clear on (and our use year is April with no time to make changes), I think I will just bank all of our points, make our July reservation, and then borrow points form 2008 if we do the March trip.

Thanks for helping me understand. I didn't realize my already banked 80 points counted towards the 50% for Dec.
