We leave tomorrow for our 6th trip with our disabled/special needs daughter. However this will be the first time we go knowing that she has a milk allergy. Besides avoiding milk (the drink) and cheese (on burgers) is there anything else to watch out for?

We're only planning on having lunch in the parks (mostly CS with 1 TS meal at Sci-Fi Drive In). For the TS do I tell the server about her milk allergy? Neither DH or I know anyone who has an allergy so we can't ask friends/family. I know at home and with family we can control if milk is in something but at WDW is that possible? I hope this all makes sense.

Hi!
I'm not going to be super helpful, since DS has lots of disabilities but no allergies, but may I suggest you change your thread title to reflect the milk allergy? People may respond more quickly with more info. I do have a friend who has celiac, and she said the restaurants were excellent to deal with. Good luck!

I agree, change the title of your thread. I almost didn't open it because of the generic title.

Have you discussed the allergy with her doctor at all? How do you handle it at home? Do you only avoid obvious sources of milk such as cheese, milk, butter, cream cheese, etc or do you avoid all things made with milk and even trace amounts? What about cross contamination?

We really need to know what it is that you do at home in order to give you accurate recommendations for what to do at WDW. No sense in us giving you suggestions that are far more restrictive than what you do at home and we certainly don't want to make recommendations that aren't sufficient and could put her in harm's way.

Yes it is absolutely possible and even relatively easy to avoid milk, even trace amounts, at WDW. We'll provide much more details about what you need to do once we understand just what degree of avoidance you need. I will say though that for the most part, WDW is the easiest place we've ever been when it comes to dealing with allergies, and we're dealing with a heck of a lot more than just the one allergy (milk is among our laundry list of allergies). Your trip will go just fine. Honest.

Not sure if you know of all the hidden dairy ingredients like casein and whey, but if not, you can Google that. At each CS location, there are books of ingredients you can look at, and they will usually send a mgr to speak w/ you. At TS, tell you server about her allergy and that you need to speak w/ a chef, who can point you to dairy-free food. If you contact Special Diets, they can send you an allergy reference sheet, but there are a lot of changes happening right now, so make sure to confirm things w/ a manager and by looking at the ingredient lists at CS locations. Special Diets also sends a guest allergy form to fill out, but that is only for TS restaurants, so that your allergy is noted on your reservation. I see you only have 1 TS ADR, so you can always just call Disney Dining and have them add her allergy to your ressie if you haven't already. I do have to say it is a lot easier to eat at TS restaurants w/ allergies.
