About to purchase... have a few questions

We do the same on our measely 150 points for a family of 3. It all depends on what you are looking for when and how frequently you visit.

We have a family of four, 150 points, and have plenty of points for a two bedroom in October every other year. Because our kids are young enough for the hideabed, that's enabled us to bring guests - or move to a one bedroom and save points - we are getting two two bedrooms this October using three years of points (and avoiding weekends) for a family reunion trip.

Granted, if we wanted a two bedroom for a week every year, we'd need twice as many points. Or if we'd go in the summer or over the holidays.

Remember dues - that dues bill comes around every year and makes me gasp at my mere 150 points.

Is it possible to use DME just to get your luggage to/from the hotel and airport, and then rent a car? The biggest benefit to me was not having to wait at the luggage carousel and then lug everything to a rental car. If I could use DME to get my luggage to the room I could then just go from the plane to the rental car.

Considering that we spent nearly $700 on food/drink items during our 5-night stay, I'd say renting a car would be worth it. Especially since it's not easy to find healthy eating options from Disney.
Yes, it's possible. One way to do it would be to take DME from the airport and then rent a car onsite. I'll let others fill in the blanks because we drive our own car, but I know there are several rental car pickup sites onsite. And, of course, Enterprise will bring a car to you.

I do not know whether it is possible to just have your bags put on the bus at MCO and rent a car at the airport. But I'll bet someone here will know.

You guys are so informative.... you amaze me. :worship: We, too, are currently looking at how many points etc. This has been a wonderful thread to read.

To make it a little easier to see how points might work out best for you, download my 'free' DVC-Planner program. (See link in signature).

You can do all the 'what-ifs' you want. Much quicker than trying to use the charts.

Can I ask you guys a quick question... is the 225 promo only for SSR and AKV not for an others that Disney may have such as BWV and BCV?

I believe that AKV and SSR are the only properties Disney is selling right now, thus the incentive. Although I've only been (seriously) researching DVC for a little while I think the only way to get into BWV or BCV is by purchasing a resale, which is not directly through Disney.

You can buy the other properties direct from DVC, but it just depends on what they have available. You are basically purchasing a contract that DVC bought back from a member (remember they have the right of first refusal on resales).

So yes the 225 point promo is only for SSR and AKV as those are the 2 properties that DVC is currently promoting.

I just wanted to add that whilst SSR and AKV are the ones that the guides are pushing, OKW is available with a 50 year contract, as this is what we bought in october.

We did have to insist on the details and I don't think you get the developer points promotion, at least we weren't offered it, but the $8 or so discount per point was applied.

The number of points needed per room, per night is lower and the accommodation size is significantly larger than the other 2 that are being sold, so it will mean that we can stay for longer in bigger accomodation, and having 2 teenage girls who are in exam years, so we can only travel during school holidays, and coming from the uk, where the travelling takes the best part of a day at either end of our trip, it only really worth staying for 9 or 10 nights or longer, OKW made the most sense.
