Over a year and a half ago, I booked our family's first cruise, and of course it had to be Disney. For the longest time, my kids have begged to go on a Disney Cruise especially once the Dream's plans were revealed and they were able to watch the renderings of the ship and Aquaduck. However, my response was always the same to them: "We'll have to win the lottery." Fortnately, we won't have to wait until then! Browsing the DCL website as I regularly would (and still do), I stumbled upon Dream pricing that this mom of 3 and teacher could afford. It is only a 3 day, but from what I've read on these informative and addictive boards is that re-booking on board is the way to continue taking these amazing trips. So, that's the plan to keep the magic alive, knowing that 3 days will be a tease.

Here we are: Me, Cathy, DH, Alby, DS, Alby the 4th is 11, DD, Olivia (will be celebrating her 10th birthday on board), and BDS, Owen who is 8.

Although I'd been a fan of Disney, I had never been to Disney World until my parents took the WHOLE family in 2006 for Christmas. Since then, we've been addicts- making our way there just about every year for one occasion or another. My brother and his family are also Disney fanatics, and will be coming along on this DREAM with us.

So, for the past year and a half, I've been keeping this secret from my kids while reading these boards incessantly and planning the same. Thanks to these great trip reports and forums, I feel very prepared. I've got my magnets designed (still waiting to be printed), our pirate ears ordered (they're on thier way), pirate t-shirts bought, and the plan for bringing alcohol on board to help curb the budget.

Now, the countdown begins. 35 days until we arrive at the Lowe's Royal Pacific- day before cruise debarkation. My bro and his family will be hitting Universal and IOA beforehand, so we'll be meeting up with them the night before for some drinks and pre-cruise merriment. The plan the next morning (day of debarkation!) is to go to breakfast and have Mickey call to deliver the good news. I can't wait to see their faces! I will post a video for I'm sure it will be worth watching.

More info and pics to come once we get underway! Yippee!

That is going to be a great surprise! Can't wait to see the video and read your TR when you return. Happy Cruising!:woohoo:

I could have never kept that secret for as long as you have, heck, probably couldn't have kept it for a week, so my hat is off to you.

You said you are sailing in one month and 4 days, which is about when we are sailing also. We are on the 9/4 sailing, and I bet you are on the 3-day right before us.

Have a wonderful trip. Be prepared to rebook while onboard as cruising can get addictive.

Yep! The 9/1 sailing. I presume we will not get enough and do plan to re-book for another real soon, or a longer one a little later. Can't wait! The kids are going to be out of their minds.

How exciting!!! Have an amazing time surprising the kids AND on the trip! I'm sure the wait will be worth it! :thumbsup2

THat is so great!
We are going on our 1st DCL in May of 2012 and lets just say I was NOT at all able to keep it from my DD's LOL

Cathy- we are on the same cruise! I am sure the kids will be so thrilled with your surprise. :thumbsup2

I think that is awesome to make this a surprise trip for the kids. I personally could not do this. This is going to be our second family cruise and my daughter knew as soon as I booked both. I get way too excited. Your family will love every moment of the cruise. Have Fun!!!:thumbsup2

It has been challenging keeping it a surprise, especially when it comes to ordering things. My daughter's pirate princess ears came the other day and of course the kids wanted to know what the package was. Fortunately, I'm quick on my feet, so I told them it was spanx- don't know where that came from! Anyway, they wanted proof, so I had to whip out my spanx; that was enough for the boys. Then later this week, our cruise docs came and my oldest son got the mail!!!! He desparately wanted to open it up; again, quick on my feet and told him it was just info that you get when filling out surveys about going on an Orlando vacation. He demanded to see it, but "Dad had already thrown it away". pirate:Still to come is the boys pirate ears that will be marked in a Disney box; that may be a time I will have to intercept the UPS guy. Oh, and Minnie tank tops I ordered for me and my daughter will be coming, too. I can play that off as school clothes for me (I'm a teacher).

Still waiting for a time to print the magnets- these rugrats are always home! I'm not too concerned, though. I have Christmas shopped right in front of them and even paid for the gifts with them standing in line. Thank goodness for short attention spans!:dance3:

How fun! Yes, they will be more than surprised; shock is the reaction I'm hoping for. In fact, I believe they will think it's a joke and won't believe it until we pull into port.

I have a year and 2 months before we set sail. I'm already about to burst. We don't plan tp tell the kids about the land part of the trip until a few minutes before we hit the road. My plan is to dress the kids for a side trip to a "cool pool" when we check out of the hotel to "go home". Instead, we will head to the port. The hard part is to keep the other 27 friends and family, who will be joining us, from telling my kids. This will be a looooooong year.

How exciting what a wonderful surprise for them :) We have 424 days to go and counting. They all know and are v excited about it we just  the planning stage

Mom and Dad's pirate hats have arrived; I still need to print the magnets, I'm still awaiting the custom-made koozies to arrive. Other than that, our trip is planned. Now just the wait to pack and the actual trip. I look forward to posting the details about the actual surprise, the ship, and our activities on board.:woohoo:

How fun!!! When are you planning on actually telling them? I've always wanted to surprise my family... just load them into the car and show up at the port. Too fun!

What a great surprise! You will have the best time- and don't think that just because it is a 3 night cruise that you won't have a blast -- we were on one last year and this year my husband insisted on doing another 3 nighter and not longer (even though it wasn't a matter of cost-I on the other hand could do many more days) I can't wait to hear about your exciting trip and how the family reacts...Have an an awesome time...

I read this thread and I just want to pee my pants with excitement for you!!

I am currently at T-minus 6 days till we suprise my parents with a July 2013 land/sea trip with the grand kids as a thank you for being so awesome!!

I feel ill... what if they say no.... :(
