We've had a lot of discussion about the new style sleeper sofa that is being put in at OKW and used at SSR. I'm assuming the other resorts will be getting this style eventually if it works out at these resorts.

Usually we DVC'ers snap photos of everything. After all, we all have pictures of the bathroom in our WDW trip albums, don't we? ;)

There must be someone who has taken a photo of the new sofa. From the description in the "All Ears" review it sounds like it may be the type that folds out flat onto the floor. If that's true, I'm curious how comfortable they really are. I've seen that style in furniture catalogs and questioned laying right on the floor.

So, how about it? Anyone have a picture? If not, can someone please try to take a photo and share it next time there at SSR or OKW? I'd appreciate it and I bet others would, too. :)

I spend a lot fo time sitting on those sofas, so I would like to see a picture also, I hope they have not changed much.

I wonder if they're like Futons??? I hope someone take a pic for us!!!

I really hope they are not like futons..............those lie so low to the ground. We enjoy sitting on the couch watching t.v. and of course..........DISing online!!!

I'm at SSR right now with the "new" sofa. I'll be glad to take some pictures. It is a *real* sofa...not a futon.

The sofa does not fold out flat onto the floor. It folds out to standard sofabed height. The most odd thing about it is the the whole lower "front" of the sofa extends to the end when made into a bed. Also, the top section of the "mattress" hides up behind the back cushions when in "sofa" mode. The whole thing feels very different when you pull it out...but it works great! It's so nice not to have to worry about stubbing my toe on the middle supports...or dealing with the bar across the middle. I'll try to get some pictures from underneath so you can see how it works.

FWIW...I found the sofa extremely comfortable to sit on. It's very cushy.

All in all, sounds like it might be an improvement.

They are regular sofa bed height when folded out and very comfortable. I didn't take pictures but fell asleep one night while watching TV with the kids. They are so comfortable for a sofa bed. Quite an improvment and I would guess that all sofa beds in the future will be like this. Wonder if anyone has found this type in a store for home use. Who ever has this patent should do very well!!!

The extra-thick matresses in the Jennifer Convertible sofa-beds sound like a similar deal. We put one in our new family room and it is Great! according to the reviews from guests. No bar in the middle of your back, no problems stubbing toes on the middle supports, just a good night's sleep.

The sofabed is our only modern Chinese-made furniture piece (the other Chinese made stuff is antique, courtesy of my History professor Dad, who specializes in the early China trade), and it's pretty decent quality, tho not up to the standard of our modern US-made furniture (from the Carolinas and Kentucky, I believe, very nice stuff).

What do you think my chances are of having one of these new sofa's at the BWV for my July trip????:confused3

Something tells me not very good! :rotfl:

I don't think they are scheduled to be replaced at BWV yet. Each resort has their own schedule of renovations. I slept on the sofabed at BWV in April, it wasn't very comfortable. I found it more comfortable to sleep on the sofa unfolded with the cushions in the back removed. On the other hand, we had an old sofa at OKW last month, it was uncomfortable to even sit on.

The new sofa bed sounds interesting, looking forward to seeing a picture. I like how comfortable it sounds also for both sleeping and sitting.

Par8hed - thanks for the laugh!

Par8hed,
Just remind people not to lean on their elbow when they get up from the "new sofa bed" in your photo!
Thanks for sharing!!!
PS Well, does anyone else have a picture? I think that with the new sofa beds, it'll make a one bedroom at OKW a more viable option for us (we have two little boys{2 and 4 yrs}, and I'd just as soon save the points and keep them in a real bed in a studio rather then one in the port-a-crib and one on the unopened couch). I also would have gotten a 1 BR when I went w/ my SIL last month, but didn't want her to sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed when I was in a KING in the br.
Does anyone know if ALL of the sofas at OKW have been changed out yet?

Are the sofa beds really THAT bad? I'm a new owner and going for the first time ( Vero) in a few weeks. It's just me, my wife, and my 7 yr old Son. I opted for the 1 Bedroom for the extra space. I hope this wasn't a mistake. Oh well......my Son frequently joins us in our Queen bed at home; I probably won't even notice him in a King.
What if he were to sleep on the "couch" unopened? Is that a viable option?

I haven't had a real problem with the old sofa beds. I did think the one at OKW (the originals, not the new model) were a little more comfortable than the ones at BWV but not a major difference. The OKW models were Castro Convertibles. They have gone out of business so OKW probably had to look elsewhere for replacements. I'm anxious to see how these new models are.

A 7 year-old should be fine. It is also possible to make up the couch, or put the cushions on the floor and form a "bed" or let him jump in with Mom & Dad. I wouldn't worry at all.

On our stay at OKW last month we opened up the sleeper sofa. It was one of the new ones. The label said comfort-sleeper. I just did an Internet search & found www.americanleather.com/cs.htm . This might help describe the sleeper sofa. The sofa at OKW is not leather :).
