about the marathon...PART 2....specifics please......

definitely take a camera, they have characters en route to cheer you on and it's great to stop and get pics (the cast members will take them). Also, make sure you're smiling and your arms are away from your number when you come out of the castle: they have the official photographers right there and its a great photo - but they have to be able to see your number.

I agree with others that layering works very well for the Marathon. I did the WDW '95 Marathon and that is what I did. I took off my nylon windbreaker and just tied it around my waist because I found when I was training sometimes after 10 to 12 miles I would want to wear it again.

One other bit of advice is there are plenty of clean PortaPotties close to where you check in - you might want to use them - I was surprized to see how many runners were heading for the bushes after only about a mile or so. Running toward the palmettos in the dark is not my idea of a fun way to start the day!

Good luck with your training. Disney really makes it a fun event. Enjoy.

If we have to be at Epcot by 4:00, and the race doesn't start until 6:00---do we eat before we go? (can't imagine that I'd be hungry, but I also can't imagine that GU would do the trick, and 2 hours waiting sounds like a l-o-o-o-o-o-o-n-g-g-g-g time!)

Most definitely you'll need to eat before you attempt a 13.1 mile race!!! We brought a bagel, banana & orange juice with us on the bus, and ate around 4:30 am while *hanging around* in the pre-race staging area.....(we are accustomed to eating about 1 to 1 1/2 hours before we work out anyway....)...all easily digestable, high in carbs and potassium - those things your body needs to maintain/sustain that high level of activity for so long. We did "GU" at 5:45am, then 45 minutes into the event...and so on...

I'm with akasnowwhite (hi by the way, we chatted a bit online before the event last year, glad to see you're doing it this year too) - EAT. I took a mini pack of cereal and some slimfast with me (strange mixture but you don't need to keep slimfast cold like you do milk) and just sat down with my bowl and munched. I also had a banana and a big bottle of water. Passed the two hours no problem and there's loads of bins to throw away the packs. Gu definitely won't sustain you - in fact, if you take it on an empty stomach you could crash out half way through as your sugar will peak then plummet. It's an added boost no substitute for food!

It's great to see everyone so motivated: I did a half marathon here yesterday and was talking about you all to my friends as we ran - everyone wishes you luck and no blisters! (and they all want your medals)

Thanks for all of the great info !!! We are planning on arriving on the Thurs night, and staying until the next week Friday morning. I'm depending on being able to do parks for the following 4 days after the race  I never thought that I should wear my medal the next day ... that's a great idea ! I was thinking about dinner at Le Cellier on race night and was definitely going to wear it then.

What with WISH meets, sports expo, pasta dinner, the race itself, my DH knows that he's pretty much on his own with the kids for Fri/Sat/Sun. One of the most exciting parts of this whole challenge is getting to meet all of our wonderful WISH friends !

I agree Mary Liz- I can hardly wait to meet you all! This trip has been a long time in the making! Won't it be wonderful when we are actually there, side by side , cheering eadch other on? I can hardly wait!!!
