For the Great Movie Ride I see it is listed as potentially scary for little ones. Do you find it to be so? What makes it scary? Would you recommend it for ages 5 & 8 that are sensitive to sudden-loud noises?

For One Man's Dream, is this worthwhile, engaging to children, or is this a skip?

The Great Movie Ride has a
creepy alien that drops down from the ceiling
and the Wicked Witch is very realistic. Just prepare them for those and they should be fine. I've never seen a little one freak out at the ride.

The 8 year old will probably love One Man's Dream. The 5 year old might be a bit bored. But no need to skip it. It is a self-guided walk through like a museum. Spend as much or as little time as their attention spans will allow.

You should check out a video on YouTube. Personally, I am going to do these solo (well with the baby) while DH and ODS (6) are at a breakfast. I don't think ODS would be interested in either one. He's not familiar with most of the movies anyway.

The Alien movie set portion can be scary--though not as bad since the Alien doesn't come down any more. (At least it did not the last time we rode.)

Also, there is a kidnapping plot where the guests are kidnapped by a villain. It is kind more cheesy than serious, but might bother some children.

ETA: oh--as far as loud noises, a fake gun with blanks will be fired. If a child is sensitive to sound, this may startle and upset them. It occurs during the kidnapping. (Kidnapping may take place on the Gangster or old west set pending crowds.)

My family enjoyed One man's dream, but the littles preferred touring it at a faster pace. Easy enough to leave if the kids just aren't into it.

My first memory of Disney World is me at 7 years old on the GMR - curled up in a ball on the floor of the little car, crying because I was so TERRIFIED. And it is a *long* ride, it's not over in a minute or two if they don't like it. So I'm sure that experience makes me biased, but I wouldn't do it with littles.

I think for an 8 year old it should be fine, the 5 year old it would depend on the child. There are some gun shots, and some scenes that look pretty realistic. I think it is a great ride for all ages, but everyone is different I suppose.

One Man's Dream is a lovely attraction, one of my favorite. The 8 year old would probably enjoy it, but a 5 year old not so sure, just depends on the child again!

Never thought about it as a scary ride! I guess it could be if the kids are very sensitive. Although my youngest went on it at 5 and didn't bat an eye and he was a pretty sensitive kid. Dinosaur scared the you-know-what out of him!

My kids were 9 and 5 when we went. They don't like really scary things and don't go on thrill rides, like TOT or RRC or SM. But they both LOVED the Great Movie Ride. I did know about the spoiler and the thing from the ceiling, so I prepared them for that, and they were totally unfazed. Really unfazed. And they declared it one of their favorite rides (probably because it doesn't go fast). My kids are really sensitive types, too.

Just my opinion, 5 is on the young side for it, 8 is probably fine. Depends on the kids.

As many previous posts have said, your 5 year old might not enjoy it but your 8 year old should be, they might not have a clue about many of the films though. In regards to One Man's Dream, it's a great educational piece and bit like Art Of Animation, it's a lovely walkthrough especially if it's warm outside.

My 5 year old hates the dark and loud things so I was hesitant about bringing her on GMR..she got a little scared in the shooting gangster scene but overall took it okay. She hates Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror and doesn't even really like POC, but was okay with GMR.

I think it all depends on WHAT they're scared of.

My DD has been riding it since she was 3 and has never been scared. It has some scenes from some movies she loves. Until she was 6 or 7, I covered her eyes in the Alien part- if you think they will be sensitive to that it is easy to know when that is coming as you enter the spaceship. The shooting in the Gangster scene has never bothered her too much and she is not a fan of loud noises- I think the first time we did warn her that some loud noises were coming up so it was not a surprise. SPOILER-------- you do get "kidnapped"- when DD was 3, we were sitting right by our kidnapper and DD loved her- she was making faces at DD and little comments at her (I think she wanted to be sure DD wasn't scared since she was little and close to her)- I think DD was sorry to see her go.

I loved Great Movie Ride the first time I went on it when I was 8. Actually, it was my favorite ride then and still is to this day. I took my daughter on it for her first trip when she was 2. I was concerned about how she would handle the Alien scene, but she did fine. I just made sure to tell her beforehand that the ride wasn't real and that it was all pretend. I also told her that it was in Mickey's park and asked her if Mickey would ever do anything that could hurt anyone. She said no. So we went on the ride and when we got to Alien, I looked down at her and just reminded her it was all pretend. She then said to me, "And Mickey wouldn't hurt me!" and everything was fine. The gangster, bandit, and wicked witch had no impact on her at all. When we got off of it, she asked to do it again. Later in the trip, when we went back to DHS, she remember that was where GMR was and asked if we could ride it again.

As far as One Man's Dream is concerned, she walked through a lot of the museum part rather quickly, but did like the replicas of the parks. I was hoping to get to go through the museum part a little slower but understood it not holding her attention. I was surprised that she sat through the movie with no problem. Here's hoping that in April, we can take a little longer... not holding my breath, though.

I took my kids on GMR at 5 and almost 3 and they were fine, though I remember being scared by the alien part when I was a kid! I told them about what was going to happen in advance and asked them if they wanted to ride. I also gave them another warning as we were entering the alien scene. No problems and they are both asking to ride it again this trip, though I'd be fine to skip it.
