?? about strollers on plane

I've never flown with my daughter before so I'm not sure how this is handled, if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.

I am flying Airtran and I am taking my daughter (who is 1). I plan on bringing a stroller. It is a collapsable stoller (its the bigger one that will hold the car seat when they are infants and then just a reg stroller when they are older - of course there is not a car seat in it now - like a Graco stroller). Is there an additional charge for the stroller? Will they require me to check it or can we bring it as a carry on? Is it considered a carry on item for one of us then?

I think you should be able to gate check it. That's what we did last year when we flew SW. We're flying AT in a couple months and I believe it works the same way. You're able to use your stroller then all the way up until just before you load. They will put in the bottom of the plane before take-off and then when you arrive at your destination they have it waiting for you when you get off the plane. It shouldn't cost anything either...it's not considered a checked bag or carryon. It's gate checked at the gate and you have to get a tag from the agent at the gate for it.

Yep. It's that easy. We checked a dbl stroller in June. We were one of the first off the plane and I made it to the ticket counter not sure where the stroller was and it wasn't up yet. They will put a little tag on it in case it gets mis placed but it was very easy.

Be aware, I watched AirTran unload the gate checked strollers and they just drop them out of the front hold in a big pile.

When gate-checking a stroller, please be SURE to get a tag from the Gate Agent as soon as possible, and fill it out & attach it to the stroller while waiting to board the plane. Please do not wait until you get down the jetway to plane.

We do this all the time, I would recommend getting a gate check bag. This is nothing special to do with the airlines but a bag that is sold at Walmart online. They are about $12 and your stroller will fit right inside.

The gate check bag is bright red and very easy to see. Our bag has been used many times and keeps the stroller clean. The bag itself is now covered with grease, has holes and is filthy but the stroller is in one piece.

It is a really cheap investment to keep your stroller clean.

I cannot take the credit for the bag, someone here refered me to it.
