This is what I am considering - but I don't know if its possible. I was considering a 7 night stay at CSR with a 10 day park hopper hopefully with free dining. Then switching to AK lodge for two nights while continuing to use the days on my passes. But.... would the dining be for the length of my stay at CSR or for the length of days on my hopper passes. Basically what I am asking is could I still use the dining for the two days at AKL if it is a room only reservation? Is this even possible? :confused3

Your Dining plan would begin when you check in at CSR and end at midnight on the day you check out of CSR.

So you could only use it on the day you check into AKL if you have any credits left at that time.

My experience last week for my split stay was this:

We stayed at CSR for 2 nights, POR 4 nights. My dining credits, upon check in at POR, began fresh, giving me 6 full nights of dining credits. The concierge told me usually it would have transferred over what remained, but looks like I got a bonus with it starting over.

So you have 6 nites in all, or by checking in to POR the Dining Plan acted new and started over?

I am staying at POR 4 nites, 5 days. I get 4 TS, 4 CS and 4 snacks, If I don't use all I can use them on up on the last day which is a Sunday. Later than nite I am checking into BWV for 4 nites and 5 days and starting the Dining Plan over with 4 TS , 4 CS and 4 snacks.

Yes, our credits started all over again with the 6 nights but I think that was a mistake. The concierge didn't offer to fix it, he just said, "hmmm looks like you have more credits than you should". We couldn't use them all anyway -- more than enough.

I think what usually happens is the credits for the first resort expire at midnight the day of check out and the new ones begin at that time.

Wow, it's funny reading about credits going for the good, usually you read where to many credits are being taken off and people have to go and get it fixed.

I'm going nuts trying to figure out dining ressies for us next April.

Ya mean that since I have two 10 day ressies there is a chance that I might get double points? :confused3

Even MY hubby could not eat that much. :rotfl2:

I thought that on changeover day unused credits from the first resort would expire at midnight the day of checkout yes, but the new credits begin from check in at the new resort, not from midnight that day.

Now, does that mean that for a meal on changeover day you can use up one or two credits from the previous stay and a credit or two from the new resort at the same meal?

Last year we had a split stay, but at the same resort (there was a 10 night limit, and we had 13 nights).

New credits began at check in, and old credits were good until midnight - on seperate cards.

We had a Signature meal that night, and had been told that for the 3 of us we could use the last 3 credits from the first reservation, and 3 credits from the second reservation to make the 6 TS needed - that info was incorrect (at least at the time, it may have changed since then).

The CM even got a manager, and there was no way that they could combine the credits. They ended up using 2 credits from the first reservation to pay for DH's meal, then charged the other 2 meals to our room & told us that the resort might be able to take care of it. The resort did take care of it, but it was time consuming.

I also managed to use the wrong card when getting CS breakfast. I had carefully marked the one to use with a post-it, but still managed to use the wrong one. I realized what I did as soon as I did it, but the restaurant couldn't correct it. They did tell me to go to Guest Relations & call the resort. The resort took care of it, easily.

Thanks angel's momma! Not the answer I was hoping for though. :confused3 We have the Cali Grill booked for changeover day and was planning on using 2 old credits and 2 new ones! I am going to have to cancel a reservation from a previous day so we have enough credits which causes problems in itself!

Can't understand why they can't manage the transaction though.

"Split stays" is a fabrication of folks like us. It's not something that Disney promotes or advocates. They do provide some minor assistance for folks imposing that on themselves, but the market for split stays isn't so large as to warrant much system enhancement to support it better. As long as the number of folks doing it remains small, it'll be something that those folks have to pull together themselves, from the separate components of regular arrangements that Disney makes available.

I just finished dealing with this. I made several calls and only after asking questions and posting here was this all explained to me. They didn't give me any problems to change the resort (we are staying at pop 5 nights then CSR for the last 4) but it wasn't explained to me what would happen with my dining. SO i called back and asked. Your best bet is to consider it like 2 seperate vacations, thats what i'm doing. We have TS meals set up for the first "vacation" and by the time we check out of Pop we have to use up the rest of our credits.

No carryover. They expire midnight of the day of checkout.

We are going to use credits all the way up to that last night, it makes the most of the credits, and will being to use the new credits the next day after we have already stayed at night at CSR. Does this make sense??

I planed ADRs like it was 2 different vacations to maximize my credits. it took me a while to get all this but now that its done and planned i can just go and have fun!!!!

we did 2 lots of 7 nights at pop,we treated them as seperate so made sure we used credits in time

Don't know if this would work -

Since there's just 2 of you, and you want to use 2 old & 2 new credits, maybe you could get seperate bills & pay for each one with a different card?

It makes sense, just be sure you keep the cards seperated.

Teasing this out a bit furthur.....Do you have to split your park passes to accomodate the split stays in order to get the split DDP?

I'm only split on 1 night, and the cost to purchase a one day hopper seperate (versus the free day offered by a ticket broker for a great price) would negate my DDP savings a bit for that single day.

The Dining Plan is part of your vacation package, which must include hotel accommodations and admission. There are no vacation packages offered that include hotel accommodations at different resorts, over the course of the package dates.

Split-stays aren't something that vacation destinations provide explicit support for. That's something that some of us fans have dreamed up (and not many of us, incidently.) Disney is actually the only vacation destination I know of that provides transportation of your luggage between two hotels, should you put your own multi-hotel vacation together. If you tried to do a split-stay at some other resort areas, the hotel will suggest you use a taxi to transport your luggage.

If you do choose to do a split-stay, the only option available to you that includes the Dining Plan is to purchase two separate vacation packages -- think of it as if you are on two completely different vacations.

I called Disney Dining and this is what they told me about our 'split' stay (same resort though, just two TEN day ressies).

On the 30th when I need to check out of the first ressie and check in for the second day I will be able to carry over my remaining Free Dining credits from the first ressie until midnight AND I will also have the new credits from the second ressie.

Just for that ONE day they will overlap.

I will have to be careful to use the right card at the right time though.

Well as I wanted to make sure about using old and new dining credits for a meal on the changeover day I emailed Disney to ask and it is a nono!

Quote 'Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.
While we appreciate your interest, it is not possible to 'mix & match'
dining credits from two separate reservations.'

Still can't see why the transaction is so hard if you give two 'key' cards in to 'pay' for the meal, but there you go!! :confused3
