I know I'm probably going to sound like an idiot but I'm asking anyway. Last Friday, the 22nd, we stayed until about 8:30 or so for E-night. As we were on the way back to the Polynesian, by boat, we say what looked like smoke over MK. When we were going to our room it had gotten much more noticeable. Seemed to be coming from between the castle and Crystal Palace. There was quite a lot of smoke and I thougth maybe something had happened. However, no mention was made anywhere in MK the next day and all looked fine. So I assume that it is supposed to happen. Anyone have any idea what it was???

Sounds like fireworks residue to me. Did they have fireworks that night?

They use some minor fireworks and somewhat extended "smoke" effects in the little Cinderella show in front of the castle numerous times daily.

We noticed this too during our July trip. We were at the Poly and saw smoke at MK. It looked as though something at MK was on fire. It was way before the fireworks so I don't think it was that. I can't imagine that the Cinderella show fireworks could put out that much smoke. I checked the news that night and there was no mention of a fire at MK. We thought it was the strangest thing.

The fireworks for the Cinderella show do not put out much smoke but they have a smoke effect. I know it isn't smoke but I am not sure what it is. It's the same "smoke" that blows around in It's Tought to be a Bug and the old Legend of the Lion king show Those kinds of clouds billow out of some of the presents numerous times during the Cinderella show.

These weren't in front of the castle. If you look back at the MK from the water, it would appear to be more in the vicinity of, if the castle is 12:00, it would have been at the 7:00 spot. There were no fireworks or castle shows that night. It was raining and an E-night; in fact it was about 1 1/2 hrs into E-night. Glad someone else has noticed the same thing tho.

Well then, maybe the Crystal Palace kitchen was on fire!!!

What color was it? Fire smoke is grey/black. White smoke is steam. So where there is smoke there is not always fire.

We also noticed the smoke that looked like it was over MK. It was about 4 in the morning after e-nite on the 19th. We were actually outside of the CR because our room was flooded by a pipe that burst outside of our room, but thats another story. I was wondering what it could be and since no one else seemed to be concerned I figured it wasn't anything to worry about. Finally a CM was looking at it too saying "hmmm wonder what that is from, I guess I better go check it out, could be condensation" and off he went on his cart to check it out. Never did hear anymore:confused:

The air conditioning for the MK & Contemporary is provided by chilled water. There are two "chiller plants" that give off large amounts of condensation, especially in cold weather and very high humidity. The chiller plant for MK is about a quarter mile behind the park and the plant for the contemporary is near Space Mt.

A few years back, while staying at the Poly, my best friend and I noticed the phenom as well, and thought, "Holy cow, it's the end of the world!" Or at least that Disney was on fire. We were told the next morning by someone at the hotel that late at night, after the parks close, the streets are "power cleaned" with jets of hot water, and that what we'd seen was probably the mist-filled air and steam caused by that. Couldn't swear that was true, but it made sense to us at the time.
