I ordered some curtains from Pottery Barn Kids and I want to return them. I just have a question about the shipping. Will I get refunded for any of the shipping? They charged me $8 to ship it, it will probably cost me that to ship it back to them. Am I out $16 just because I didn't like them?
Thanks (I know someone here will know the answer!!):wave2:

*Update*
Thanks for all your quick replies. I did call their customer service dept and they said shipping was my responsibility. However they did say that their items can be returned to any Pottery Barn or Williams-Sonoma near me so that's what I'll do. Thanks again!

It depends on the company, but I think if you call them, and ask nicely they will refund you. Most companies are not going to want to risk upsetting a customer over $16.

When I ordered something last year from Halloween Mart.com and returned it, they did make me pay shipping back, but credited for shipping on my original invoice.

So it really varies.

you can return them to a store near you (if there is one) to avoid shipping costs.

for all the things I've ordered online...if I've returned them to a store, never received shipping charges back.

I have ordered and returned many times (Talbots, Victoria's Secret,Coldwater Creek,Lands End) and never received the shipping charges back. I think it is a downside to ordering online?

It is the downside of ordering online. Kind of a trade off for the convienence. Also if the company sends you one of those pre-paid return labels they will usually subtract that out of your refund.

If the return is because you changed your mind or didn't like the merchandise, you'll generally need to pay the shipping.

If there's an actual problem with the merchandise (damage, the wrong thing was shipped to you, the item was misrepresented somehow), you should be able to ask the seller to eat the shipping cost.

I have found that SOME places, that only carry stuff in their catalogs or 'on-line' will allow you to order from the store and have it shipped to your house free of charge. I know jcrew does this...(which is nice, as they ONLY carry their 'tall sizes' through the catalog/online)

FYI - Lands End will now allow you to return items purchased online at your local Sears office. This is new. I order a lot from Lands End and was so excited to see this change.
Advice would be buy 2 sizes/colors if you were unsure and return the other to Sears. I do that when I buy shoes through Lands End.

Thats great for Lands End, I didn't know that. Have you noticed that their sizes run really big, especially in swim suits? I love their stuff, though!:sunny:
