Renting from a
DVC member can be a very cost-effective way to enjoy a stay at a DVC resort.
The advantage is primarily found in the rate paid for a stay as compared to making the same reservation thru CRO and the fact that it's possible to make that reservation 11 months in advance (not always possible thru CRO).
The disadvantages are that you would not be working with Disney and may find onflexible policies regarding cancellations, refunds and changese to the reservation once it has been made. Most members who rent will try their best to accommodate those things, but sometimes it is not possible and could place their points into a restricted mode. Be sure to understand all of htose policies prior to sending any money.
Changes may not even be possible, especially as it gets close to the arrival date since availability to DVC members may be very limited or noin-existant. Renters need to realize that they will not get daily housekeeping unless they pay an additional amount to the resort and will not have access to member perks like discounted APs, although some member discounts may be extended to renters. The member will control the reservation right up to arrival and any changes, requests or additions (like DME or
DDP) will need to be made by the member. The renter will not be able to confirm the reservation thru DVC at all and would only be able to confirm it thru the resort a few days before arrival.
You should read all of the informational threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Board before posting. There is some information there about "How To" rent, contracts, etc.
Good luck with your rental!
