Well, after years of driving or taking the train down to WDW, we're actually going to fly. So, I would like to know if anyone can tell me are any of the rental car places actually in the airport? What I mean is, can I walk off the plane and go to a rental car place and get a car without having to take some long bus ride somewhere?
If I have to take a bus ride somewhere, which rental place has the shortest trip?
I know I sound lazy -- quite frankly I am -- but I really do hate wasting so much time riding on buses to the rental car places.
Thanks:D

You might want to try the transportation board, most of the people over there have all the agencies memorized, with discount codes.

Having said that, I know National, Alamo, and Avis are in the terminal, along with one local agency I don't remeber the name of. There may be others, but I think Hertz and Budget are outside the terminal, by shuttle bus.

The Orlando terminal is very easy to get around, and the baggage claim is right near the rental desks.

Have a good flight.

check out mousesavers.com--it tells you what companies are in terminal and it gives you some codes as well.

Good idea to catch this one before it gets you. I booked car thru Orbitz once, and it said the car pick up was "at terminal" turns out we had the goofy bus ride out to bfFL. I learned the website dizneegirl mentioned--those have counters and cars AT the terminal.

Have fun!!

I am renting from L & M (never heard of them before) which happened to be the cheapest "in terminal" rental I found on Orbitz.com. (for September, $21/day economy) I have rented from Hertz, too-in terminal. I don't remember it being incovenient, but DH says that the airport is all spread out as far as terminal rentals go, but the shuttle to the remote rentals is right out the front door. So when he planned our October trip, he booked Thrifty at $18/day, and we will try remote. I guess it is worth the trouble, the lowest rental for terminal was Budget at $35/day..

Whoa, I must have missed your post, Beastlover.....I am reconsidering L & M, and I am going to see what is up at the site dizneegirl mentions.. Thanks for the heads up!!

I used to insist on in-terminal car rental. I just couldn't see us waiting around for the shuttle, schlepping the luggage on to the shuttle bus, off the shuttle bus, and into the rental car. Among the disadvantages to on-site rental are a higher rate, and sometimes long lines of people ahead of you. For our trips over the past few years, DW has gone on line and found some smaller
independent car rental places. Other than the shuttles, it has really not been a problem at all, and the prices are somewhat less. You don't get that "I'm here at a shiny, nationally known rental car counter" feeling, but that's not what a trip to Orlando is about for us:earsboy:

Thanks everyone for the great info.

Thanks dizneegirl and Annette-VA for the helpful links.

Beastlover, I know exactly what you mean by "at terminal". When we went to Las Vegas this year I rented from Hertz because it said they were "at terminal" only to find out we had to take a shuttle:rolleyes: So, I decided this time I would ask my great friends at the DIS which car rental companies were in fact "at terminal" and as usual you guys did not disappoint.
Thanks again:D

There are several rental car agencies inside the MCO terminal. I have rented cars from there several times, with several different rental car agencies. You can always call the specific rental car agency you are inquiring about and ask them if they are at the MCO terminal or offsite.

We use National and are a member of their "Emerald Aisle" program. Basically, you book whatever size car you need, and they guarantee that that size car will be there. Then when you get to the Emerald Aisle, you can take whatever car is there that you want, even if it's bigger and better than what you booked. Also, there's no waiting in any kind of line. You get your luggage, walk to the Eemerald Aisle, pick out your car, and drive out of the airport. Basically, you just have to stop at the little booth on the way out so they can register which car you took. It takes about 10 minutes tops.

Dollar and National are right there in the airport... I've used both and been happy.

Worst experience/longest wait we had was for Alamo... wait for the bus, ride out to rent the car, and it took FOREVER once we got to the Alamo building. Won't do that again.

That must have been a long time ago because Alamo has been in MCO for a while now.... know I picked up my car there back in 98 and I just did it again in May and same thing....counter was quick, walk outside and pick up your car in the garage...they acutally have rows that say "full size" etc...you go tothe row you reserved and take any of the cars you want in that catagory and drive to the check out place (its a dirve up window), takes about 2 minutes and you are on your way.....It was so fast and easy we are using them again in August when we go.
I do remember the times taking that bus to the old alamo place though, what a pain in the butt...that line was hours long at times!

I went to Budget in the terminal in 2002, BUT, the service was HORRENDOUS!!! I've used Budget in several cities without any problems, but in MCO, I had to wait almost an hour (I'm not exagerrating) for a car and had to deal with a clerk who tried to make me feel bad for declining insurance and for renting "only a compact." Another lady came by and just gave me a full-size car. However, that experience was so bad that I will not go back to Budget in MCO.

Anyway, back to the original subject...aside from that incident, it was a very quick walk to get to the car. ;)

We have used Dollar and Budget in the terminal (actually across the street in the parking structure) and haven't had any problem with either of them. I noticed the last time I rented, however, that even though the base rental rate was more expensive at Hertz, the bottom line rate was the cheapest of the 3. It looked as though the taxes were much higher for terminal rentals than for off-site rentals. Hertz' bus is very fast, and if you sign up for Hertz Gold, you can just walk to your car when you get to the Hertz lot and drive away, which might compensate for having to take a bus. ::MinnieMo

Last couple of times renting in MCO I used Budget and Dollar, both are "inside" the terminal. I joined both Budget's Fast Break and Dollar's Fast Lane clubs (both free!)and we bypassed the lines inside and went straight to the Kiosk directly inside of the garage.
Good luck and check out mousesavers.com for rental codes before you go!!::yes::

Yup, was a while ago. I might consider trying them again if they've moved. :)

Been driving down the last few times... last car we rented from them was a Pontiac Sunfire. I fell in love, and ended up with one as a gift from DH! Now my Sunfire and I know the way with our eyes closed! (Though, really... I would LOVE to fly instead of that 15+ hour drive! ;) )
