When you rent a car do you take the option of adding extra insurance or are you covered under your own cars policy?

I'm covered under my own policy. They try to give you the hard sell to buy their insurance, but if you're firm they usually take no for an answer without too much trouble.

Don't take the extra coverage here either...my regular car insurance is enough.

Most gold & platnium credit cards also offer additional coverage. They will pay the deductible that your personal policy does not cover.

I don't take the insurance. In NY your auto insurance covers you. Also, I use a credit card that also provides coverage

Nope, it's a money making strategy for the rental company. Most people have coverage through their existing car insurance company.

We always double check ahead of time, and we always are covered.
