My girls love to dress up, but they want me to make the outfits. When we go to the park are they going to be teased for wearing homemade outfits? I don't want their feelings hurt when their outfits don't look just like the other girls are wearing.

We saw little girls in all types of outfits and they all looked adorable! I don't think anyone would tease them at all . Sometimes the homemade outfits are more beautiful than those that are store bought. Your princesses will be beautiful in whatever they wear!

We are going in December and I'm actually thinking of making my girls costumes. It's my experience that making costumes can actually cost a little more than store bought, however I've got "picky" little girls who hate clothes that are "scratchy". I'm still debating, but it never occured to me that they could get picked on. I say go with what you like and remember, some people will never have manners, regardless of their age. (I can say from experience that the cast members love "different" outfits, and your homemade ones will be unique, and they seem to love unique stuff) Have a great trip with your princesses. If their happy with the outfits, who cares about anyone else??Janice

I can only speak for my own children and they would never ever even think to make fun of anyone*and they are 12,8,3,1. I think that homemade costumes would be adorable and I bet the CM's would be all over them!

My daughter wore her Snow White costume that I made her for Halloween the year before. The only comments she received were compliments ~ to which she proudly said, "My mommy made it!"

I also made her costume for MNSSHP. Actually only had to make the skirt as I found her a great black full leotard to wear.... that one was cheap :)

I think that's really sweet that your girls want you to make their dresses instead of buying run-of-the-mill dresses. I don't think anyone will make fun of your girls because they will have a unique mother's touch to their outfits that no other little girl has. I don't know how to make dresses either but if my DD requested it, I would learn in a heartbeat :)

I agree with the OPs- I think you will get only positive comments! We're going in Sept. and I will be making costumes for my 6 y/o twins.. a boy and girl (Mom will help, thankfully!) They are still deciding on who they will be.... Peter Pan and Tink.... Jesse and Woody... DS even agreed to be Prince Charming if sis wanted to be a princess!

Be sure and post your pics... any one else have pics of costumes you've made?

Loved yours "marlynnp"!

I don't think your kids will be picked on by other kids: I have never seen it happen in the years we have been going. And it doesn't matter to the characters whether the kids are in fancy Disney-store costumes, cheap Wal-Mart costumes, hand-made costumes or none at all: they treat every child like they are special. Good luck!

If you use the licensed patterns, the colors and cut will be indistinguishable from the commercial ones, but yours will look nicer because your fabrics will be better quality, and presumably the fit and finishing will also be better.

I made costumes for years for the little girls of my acquaintance. Here's a tip: if you want really good comfort in the parks, go to a linens dept. and buy a king-size high-thread-count sateen sheet for your costume fabric (if you can get it in the color you wish to have; Snow White can be difficult in this respect, as the dress is a bit garish.) Sateen is very comfortable and washes well, but still has that sheen that little girls need for it to be special. Good sateen won't be cheap, but if you know the dress will be worn to death, it is worth it.

I would be **shocked** if your little ones were teased for having homemade outfits... if ANYTHING I think they'd receive more POSITIVE attention! They won't look like "all the other kids".. their costumes will be one of a kind:)

I have made my two granddaughters dresses for Aurora, Belle (librarian), Pocahontas, Ariel, and Alice, and I have actually felt sorry for the little girls who wear purchased dresses because there is nothing unique about them. And mine are much more comfortable -- and washable.
