We have rented points from a DVC owner for our upcoming trip. We received our confirmation letter today confirming our the reservation in our name. I was wondering for those you who rent points, do you call Member Services periodically and just check to make sure the reservation is still there in your name?

I know that the owner has total control and this is our first time renting points. I didn't know if there was ever a case where someone got to the resort to check in and the reservation had been cancelled. I would hope this wouldn't happen, but you never know, and with renting points there is a trust factor there between the owner and the renter. Just wondering.

You could phone the resort and check on your reservation.
Non members aren't suppose to call MS they may not tell you without a member #.

Call MS and check your reservation. With the reservation number on the confirmation slip, they will tell you that the room is reserved for that period of time, but I don't know if they will tell you anything else. MS people are usually very patient with anyone who calls, whether they are supposed to call that number or not. :thumbsup2

Yes, definitely call if you want. MS will confirm the ressie for you, and may allow you to change your requested preferences. But they won't let you change anything substantial about the ressie -- dates, type of unit, etc.

People who have been here longer than I can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there has ever been a situation where someone arrived and found their reservation cancelled -- unless perhaps some renter had not fully paid as they were supposed to.

I have heard of one situation where an unscrupulous renter never paid a penny and the owner maintained the ressie, hoping against hope they'd pay. They showed up, used the ressie, and never paid a penny. That's really a shame -- and it's also Grand Theft. Hopefully, they were prosecuted, but I don't know what the final outcome was.

A renter should be able to call MS and confirm the reservation. You will need to mention the members name and then give them your name and reservation number. According to the MS that I talked to this week the renter can call to add the Magical Express. I would recommend that you also have a rental contract with the seller for added comfort.

There was an owner who hadn't paid his dues or his financed costs. He rented out his points to someone else and a month or so before they had their vacation, his points were foreclosed on by Disney. The reservation was cancelled. The people renting the reservation were out of luck. No reservation when they arrived.

This is the only instance I have heard where the non-owner was cheated.
