? about points and Hilton Head hotels/resorts

My husband and I are new DVC owners! Woohooo! Our use year is for September and my guide said that I could start making ressies now. I have to reserve 11 months in advance so that means we can't go to Hilton head this summer or even to WDW in February-March '06?

no - if your have your membership - you can make a reservation now!!!

Now I might not understand SSR - I know some can't make reservation for a while. But I think once your guide says you can make reservation - you can.

HH for this summer would be difficult. but go ahead and see what MS tells you.

You can definitely make reservations for Feb/March 2006.

Check your contract for an "expected occupancy date" for the unit you own. You definitely cannot stay before that date using your own points. But, after that date you may be able to use your points even if it isn't September yet.

Remember reservations are only subject to the 11 / 7 month booking windows. As spiceycat said, even if your points are not available right now, there is nothing that would keep you from BOOKING a room now.

It's anytime AFTER 11 months from your checkout date.

With a September Use Year, your 2005 points are valid for stays from 9/1/05 to 8/31/06. If you will not use them by 8/31/06, they should be banked so that you can use them in the next Use Year. See your handbook for the banking guidelines.

Points not used or banked by the end of the UY are forfeit.

I assume your first use year points are 2005? If so, you can use them for any stay 9/1/05-8/31/06. You cn reserve any of those stays 11 months from the date of check out. For example. Let's say you want to book a stay that starts Feb.1 and checks out Feb.10/06. You could call as early as March 10/05 to reserve that stay, but theoretically, you could book it any time after that date too. If it was still available, you could book it on 12/10/05.

Since I can't use my points for this summer..I was wondering if there's a nice hotel or resort close to the beach at Hilton Head? At $150 or less a night? I'd love to go for maybe 3-4 days this summer.

I couldn't say about hotels near HHI resort as I have yet to go there and don't really know the area,
however, if you really want to go to HHI resort this summer and are willing to pay cash since your own points aren't available to use as of yet...what you may want to consider is either checking out the DVC RENT/TRADE board here on the Disboards and see if anyone has HHI already booked and trying to rent out the reservation OR You could also call CRO and see if they have any rooms available (CRO has a separate albeit small inventory of rooms available for cash).

Here are my thoughts. For your budget you can probably get a hotel in Palmetto Dunes or rent a villa in either Sea Pines oar Palmetto Dunes. I would do both of those over paying for the DVC accomdations. They are nice, but IMHO they are pretty far from the beach which is why I go to HH.

I'm not aware of anything that fits that bill but you never know. You might have some success for early June or Late August though. How about renting a studio at DVC for that time? You might also find a private rental where they only need a few days but it would likely be during the week and not a weekend.

OTOH, you might be able to get one of the budgets like Fairfield of the like, not on the beach though or you could look at one of the lower hotel or timeshare on or near the beach like Adventurer Inn or one of the Spinnaker resorts. While not likely available, do you have any reward points like Marriott or Westin?

I checked yesterday for a few days in HH. Could get a one bedroom in Sea Pines for about $160 in July. (And I think if you call them directly you can get an AAA discount)
