We received our vouchers yesterday from Getawaytoday.com. They came with lanyards and 3 pluto pins that say Disneyland on them. We've never done pin trading before but I'm wondering if these are pins that my son could trade with a CM to get his favorite characters? Or do they have to be "certain" pins to trade? Like I said I know nothing about pin trading and I doubt it's something we'd really get into but thought it might be something fun for him to do this trip. Thanks

Oh yea...9 more days and counting...we've hit single digits baby!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

We have not done the pin trading before yet but I have a feeling that Kelly will really want the pins this year. Buy yay on the 9 days!!!!!!

I'm hoping Ayden doesn't get addicted to it. I would just like us all to have one of our favorite character. So needless to say he'll be on the lookout for Minnie or anything cars.

I'm not a pin trading expert by any means, my kids just started trading on the last day of our trip last year, but I believe as long as it is an official Disney pin then you can trade it. There should be a little circle symbol on the back or something. And what a great way to get started, if you have 3 that are the same then it's easier to get rid of 2 because you could always keep the 3rd. I bet your son will really enjoy it. Its fun watching for pins that they like and they also get to interact with more cast members. I totally let my kids have control over the pins too. There are some that I wish they wouldn't have traded because they are cast member only pins and some I wish they wouldn't have picked because there are better ones on the cast members lanyard but there not mine so as long as they are willing to trade I let them make their own decisions.

As long as the pin has Disney on the back the CMs will trade. However other pin collectors will probably only trade for pins that have the official pin trading logo on the back (it says official pin trading, usually with the year of issue on). Pin trading can become very addictive, I have only just started and intend to pin trade on my Disney trips this year. One thing I have done is bought some grab bags of pins from ebay quite cheaply to trade in the parks with the CM's. Again just make sure they are official ones and you will be OK.
Have a great trip.

Teehee.

I don't trade, but have found that I looooooove the pins! And I can't just settle for one of a character, they just keep making CUTE little pins!

Sigh, it all started with ebay.... Was going to get ONE pin each, just for "fun", to go along with the pin that we would get from our Costco package, but then I couldn't decide between two pins for one of us, so got two for the one person, then it was only fair if we EACH got two pins....Got myself an eye of Mara (Indy) pin and something else, got a McQueen pin for Eamon then something else, got DH the coolest pin ever (people stop him in his tracks to try to trade), a yin/yang Mickey head pin from Hong Kong Disneyland and an Incredibles pin (he was being Mr Incredible by working extra hours to help pay for the trip that was my idea, so he got Mr Incredible).

Turns out DH loves to trade (but he knows that the pins I got him are untradeable, especially the Hong Kong pin). DS doesn't understand the idea at all (he would want both pins) and rarely wears his lanyard more than 10 minutes b/c it's heavy on his neck, and I just like collecting them.

Anyway, I hope DS likes the pins, but you might want to steel yourself for getting really into the pins! :goodvibes

As everyone else said, the pins are most likely tradable. When you get into the parks or DTD you will see the pin carts all over the place and pins for sell in the stores. Wherever you see pins for sale there should be a free little booklet with the rules of pin trading. It has been a while since I traded, but the rules are pretty simple. You can only trade a CM if they DO NOT have the pin you want to trade on their lanyard already. Any CM has to be willing to trade if they have a lanyard on, and will gladly let you look at their lanyard IF you ask. You can NOT touch a CM's lanyard. When trading, you must take your own pin off (CM must take off their own too) and trade pins only with the back of the pin on. Pin sets that come with more than one pin, must be traded as a whole (no breaking up the set).

I can't think of any other rules, but like I said, it is pretty easy. Just use common sense. I thought that I wouldn't get addicted, but obviously I did. Be forewarned, it can get expensive if you buy additional pins in the park. Each pin is at least $7 or so, maybe more.

Have fun! :cool1:

the pins from getawaytoday and AAA can be traded immediatly with the cast member you get them from!
Watch out it is definatly addicting , the pins from our package got us hooked! First my sons then I started last trip. We pull them out from time to time they are a great memory of the trip and it has taught my boys to take care of them . No other colection in our house is so treasured.

Just one more thing I need to get addicted to. DIS is like a good disease!

You can NOT touch a CM's lanyard.

Last week when I was there a lot of CM's just handed their lanyards to us to look at more closely. A lot of CM's will also ask you if they see you looking at their lanyards and see you have one. Also an idea for keeping your lanyards as keepsakes, is setting them up in shadowboxes. Just set your lanyards down and punching the pins through the back of the shadowboxes with the medal at the bottom. Its really fun and looks great on the wall. Of course I had to fold the lanyard a little to fit it in but it looks really nice. I've already bought more shadowboxes for these lanyards. I also second buying off ebay with caution. Before we went we purchased a 50 set for 4 people and it worked perfectly. It came out to under $2 per pin and I ended up trading them all for pins I really wanted. I actually only bought 1 pin down in Disneyland.

These are 2 pin addicted boys

My name is Laura and I am addicted to disney pins.

I will not trade, I want them all....lol

First it was characters then it was characters and rides. My addiction then grew to characters, ride and attractions.

I am now a full blown addict, collecting characters pins, rides, attraction/shows, special events, dated pins and more!!!
I found one that says Ohio State...I was thrilled! Like I won the lottery or something.
(OMGOSH! Think of all the pins I could buy IF I won the lottery!!)

I save all my change all year to add to my pin addiction fund.

I have a list of pins I NEED to buy this June at DL, I havent been to DL since I started collecting pins. I cant wait!!

Heres some of my pins...

When I got home, I hang my lanyards up somewhere or put them in s souvenir box, since I have only gotten the cheap ones from a travel place, but I have put all my pins on a bulletin cork board to display. It is cheap, and easy to find. I have my cork board covered in a red fabric and you see a couple of postcards up there too.

WOWZAS...that is quite the collection Laura!!! We save all our change too, we empty our pockets each day into a bucket. So far we've counted the quarters and dimes and it comes out to 198. We're putting it on a Disney card to use for the food the first few days. Good idea though about using it for pins if you collect them like that. I hope you get all the ones you're looking for. I want just one tinkerbell, that's not too much to ask for is it? I say one...let's see what I come home with.

jernysgirl, Im going to have to copy your idea!! I want to buy more shadow boxes to match the one I have but they are gone!

I love what you have done with your pins!

MommyWithDreams, Lots of Tink pins...how will you ever choose...lol

Love those pictures DS8 and I loved looking at all the pins you have!

We take all the pins we trade on each trip and put them on a framed corkboard that we have sprayed all black. We have a Mickey bathroom and hang the framed board in there. DS will go hang out in the bathroom and look at all our pins. It is cool as we group them by trip so we can remember when we got them. We are not hard core addicts by no means. We don't care about hidden Mickey's or limited editions. If we like it we trade for it, keeps it fun and more cost effective for us. We buy a lot of official Disney pins on ebay and trade the ones we don't want to keep.

Also another tip about trading. I noticed some CM's wear a little sign on their lanyard saying they ONLY trade with kids (under 12 I think?).. From what I've noticed, some CM's are really strict about this, while other's don't care.. So just take note, because I've asked without noticing the little sign, and this one CM lady looked at me like I was dumb that I asked.. But I've seen some CM's with that sign trade with people who were obviously over 12 and they didn't have anything kids with them.. Just fyi.. Have fun!!!

Some CMs do only trade with kids but they distinguish themselves from other traders by wearing a teal green lanyard. Those that wear blue ones are available to trade with anyone. Usually, I don't bother asking about the kids lanyards but it never hurts to ask when you find a CM wearing both. :hippie:
