I started packing today! This is our first trip that we are bringing our own food. I have packed a box of capri suns. Do you think they will be okay in the checked luggage? I don' t want them to explode. Will they?

I ordered Capri Sun from amazon. Several pouches developed leaks from the handling by UPS so I won't order them online again (they're shipped as a large pallet to stores so definitely handled differently to stores). Airlines treat luggage much rougher than UPS treats packages. Based on this, I wouldn't pack a case of Capri Sun in luggage. I can't imagine a case arriving intact.

Not a problem if they are packed correctly. I recently checked two cases of wine on United from SEA to IAD and both boxes arrived safely with no breakage or leakage.

Wine is different than boxes of Capri Sun. Unless those little pouches are removed from the box and individually wrapped, they're basically just jammed into a box. Wrapping the box doesn't do anything to protect the pouches. In no way was I commenting on all liquids (that's a whole other debate); OP was asking about this particular item. I was trying to be pretty clear that I was describing my experience with boxes of Capri Sun.

Right. I wouldn't pack them in the box. Just put them in one of those extra large ziploc bags, double bagging if you want to, and you won't have any problem if one of them leaks.

If TSA inspects the suitcase and repacks it in a lumpy fashion, or if a gorilla actually stomped on it, then your drink containers inside the suitcase would burst.
