I keep seeing a lot of condos on Skyauction that are 2 bedrooms.

I know that Vacation Village at Parkway, all the 2 bedrooms are lock-off units...really 2 seperate 1 bedroom units...

Is this the only one that is set up that way or are there more out there with the 2 bedrooms being 2 lock-off units instead of just a 2 bedroom villa?

Did that make any sense to anyone?

yes - I know what you mean.

there is no easy way to tell.

fairfield says they are - but I don't see how - their smaller units don't have a kitchen.

We stayed in a 2 bdrm. lock off unit at the HGVC near Sea World. I *think* HGVC has different 2 bdrm configurations because a current auction on SA offers a 2 bdrm that sleeps 6 or a unit that sleeps 8...although we didn't use them, I believe our lock off had 2 sofa beds, which meant the lock off slept 8. IMHO, the lock offs would be great for extended family or friends traveling together.

Spiceycat, the smaller 1BR at Fairfield Star Island has a kitchenette. At Fairfield Cypress Palms, it has a kitchen wall with all the appliances of a full kitchen - they're just smaller (except for the full size fridge/freezer). At Fairfield Bonnet Creek, the 1BRs are all deluxe, no lockoffs.

Local_Girl, if a 2BR sleeps 8/6, then there's bedding for up to 8 adults max but only up to 6 may sleep "with privacy." "With privacy" means that there are up to 2 people sleeping in each sleeping room (BR or LR) and each person counted may enter a bathroom without having to pass through another person/couple's sleeping room.

So a 2BR lockoff that separates into 2 1BRs would have 2 MBRs and 2 LRs - 4 sleeping rooms. These always sleep 8 max/8 priv - look for an 8/8. A regular 2BR only has 2 BRs and 1 LR - 3 sleeping rooms. These will sleep 8/6.

Unfortunately, resorts reserve the right to switch your room type as long as the max occupancy is retained. So even if you were to book an 8/8, they could switch it to an 8/6 at check-in, at will. I would suggest seeking resorts which have few, if any, dedicated 2BRs, and most, if not all, lockoffs.

I think there are mostly lockoff 2BRs at HGVC Sea World, at Fairfield Cypress Palms and at Sheraton Vistana Villages (vs. mostly dedicated 2BRs at S V Resort). HTH. :)

We just stayed in a 2 bedroom unit at Fairfield Cypress Palms and it was not a lock off. I would imagine that some of them are lock off units there but ours was a standard 2 bedroom unit with a king bed in the master bedroom and two doubles in the second bedroom.

ooops...in rereading my post, I realized I wasn't really clear in explaining what we had at HGVC. We had a 1 bdrm connected to a studio. The studio had a queen or double plus a sofa bed, and the 1 bdrm unit had a king bed with a sofa bed in the living room. So as Lisa P. said, sleeps 8, but only 6 with privacy. It still seems as though Sky Auction was offering different configurations, though, because upon winning the auction, you could pay and additional amount for a 2 bdrm, sleeps 6, and a little more than that for a 2 bdrm that sleeps 8.

A 2BR that sleeps 6 (6/6) will usually have a king or queen in the MBR, 2 twin beds in the 2nd BR and a queen sleeper sofa in the LR. There are a variety of configurations for a 2BR that sleeps 8 (8/6 or 8/8).
