I am starting to plan a trip for next November - DH has no idea that I am thinking of planning a trip for next November he would probably shot me (but it never hurts to start planning). I was looking at this years calendar and it looks like Small world is closed the first two weeks of November - is this true for every year. Can't possible go and not see Small World DD favorite ride. So my main question is how busy is DL the week before Thanksgiving?

They do close Small World for the Holiday overlay. For us, we go every year the week before Thanksgiving. This year we are pulling DD out of school Wednesday the 18th and we will return the 23rd. Wed, Thurs and Friday are low crowds. Sat and Sun get more crowded and then the craziness insues before and after Thanksgiving. The Holiday firewirks are amazing and we love all of the great decorations.
Do not miss IASW holiday. It will get you into the Christmas spirit the second you walk up!

I am sooo happy to read your post!! We will be there the exact same dates, although we won't arrive until the evening of the 18th. We are hoping for low crowds on Thurs and Fri!!!!!

Maybe we'll see you in the parks! I made up some LGMH to hang on my backpack and stroller.

Yes, IASW closes every year to add its overlay and it re-opens in early to mid-November - I think always on a Friday. It then becomes IASWH (IASW Holiday). You can check past ride closures here:

Note that 2008 was not indicative of IASW because it was closed all year to refurb the whole ride. Look at 2007 and prior years.

FWIW, IASWH goes down again for a couple weeks in January to remove the overlay.

I have been twice in recent years during Thanksgiving week and crowds were similar to summer crowds. Which in my opinion are manageable crowds - not like Christmas/New Years crowds where they have to stop selling entrance tix. If you go the week before TG as others have posted crowds are usually much lower.

IASW was closed on the following dates (to install the IASWH overlay):

10/20/03 – 11/7/03
10/18/04 – 11/4/04
10/24/05 – 11/10/05
10/23/06 – 11/9/06
10/22/07 – 11/8/07
1/22/08 – late-November ’08 (major year-long refurb)
10/26/09 – 11/12/09
