We are leaving on Friday for Orlando. We have been numerous times and my DH is not a fan of DW. We are also on a tighter budget, staying off sight, doing other area attractions, and will only do one day all day splitting between AK and MK - we have 1 day admittance on old 2000 park hopper tickets and are using My Disney Rewards points to buy DS's ticket. I will go to guest relations to change out the tickets and get a guest assistance pass for our DS due to his autism. We have received one each time and I know how that has changed since our last trip. Am I right that if we want Magic Bands we would have to purchase them since we are off site? I am thinking if we have to buy them, they are really not necessary for us. We do not do thrill rides. Splash Mt. is the fastest we will do. My DS will want one for his Infinity game. Do we have to activate it at Disney for it to work with his game at home? Thanks for the help.

We have not done it yet, but from my understanding yes you must walk through the turnstyles.

We have our magic bands ( we leave on Monday) and my son tried it on the Infinity already, nothing happened. I'm sure that will be the first thing he does when we return!!

In the fall, my parents received magic bands because they were staying onsite. Before they left, I was able to use it on the Disney infinity and get the dragon stuff. It does not work instantly. You have to wait a few minutes before you start receiving anything. Based on my experience, no, you do not have to go through a turnstile. If anything it just would need to be linked to an account on MDE.

I don't see how the game could tell if you've activated the band. I think activation changes things within the MM+ database, not the band.

We didn't use it until sometime well after our trip, but I did notice that it behaved differently from Infinity figures and power discs. The game gave no outward sign that it had received any signal, but after a few minutes we noticed Dragon's Gate had been added to the Toy Box.

You should know that Disney has done away with the Guest Assistance red cards. Our son is autistic as well. When we were down in March, we were extremely disappointed in the new system of signing-in ... waiting ... and having to go back just to be put in a long fast-pass line. No more handicap entrance allowed :(

Yes we knew about the change. It will be fine. We will make adjustments. We tend to like what some people call the more low key rides with less waits. Did you have any problems getting your card?

How do I link it to an MDE account? We will trade our tickets on Sat. at Guest Relations at Downtown.
