about having storage space at our other home...

we were talking about the question that was raised on another thread - if Disney provided storage space for a fee, would you use it. At first we thought, that would be nice; not only could you put in non-perishables, but you could drop in toys, videos, books, etc. that you wouldn't have to bring along. I wouldn't be above leaving a few days worth of clothes to make for a lighter flight. Maybe an umbrella stroller. And what about sun tan lotion, sand toys, water toys, shampoo and toiletries, kitchen stuff (a blender?)....a knick knack, a night light, a flash light, a fanny pack, a first aid kid with mole skin, some aqua socks....what a good idea. But then we thought about what it would cost from Disney!! Probably a pretty penny to have them store some things and pick them up for us and deliver to our room.

But then we thought that probably a lot of dvc-ers have or rent a car while down there. So why not find a group of people to share a room at a rental self store place? Each person could get like a large size tub to put in, and we'd just stack them in there. It would take some trust, and people would have to be good about other people's stuff. You could even just use a large suitcase, that way you could fly it down the first time, and you could lock it or whatever. There could even be a space that was "take it if you want it" sort of shelf for paper backs or guide books or whatever people wanted. Or a "share it but bring it back spot" for a blender or stroller or water toys or whatever people wanted. It would take some trust and people would have to be respectful, but I think most folks are pretty good about stuff.

I haven't really thought about it, but I figured if a dozen people wanted to go in and share a space then the cost for each party for a year would be equal to a month. I don't know if you can put a combination lock on one of those units, but that would be the easist thing. I haven't thought enough about it to really compare prices or think about the best location or anything, I wanted to see if anyone would be interested before spending much time on it. I did a quick web search and there is a place on Orange Blossum trail that is $37 / month for 5 X 10 (A-AAAKey Mini Storage), for a quick idea of what the price range might be. I bet some of our local friends or cm friends could recommend the best bets.

So, what do you think?

I could move out the 5000 barbies Ijust moved out of my girl's room and the 10000 books kids books belonging to my boys
Anybody need star cruisers?
My wife wants to add on another room in the roof space.
Sounds like this might be cheaper Lol !!pirate: pirate:

From Day One I've thought about having storage at DVC. I guess Disney doesn't see a reason to offer it. My dream was to have my vacation stuff stored so I could fly down on a whim with no luggage. ;)

While I doubt I will participate. (I don't bring that much stuff) I do know you can put a combination lock on these units. I stored my whole house in one last winter for a month.

well Pam, this is a way to do it - bring along a big suitcase of stuff you want to keep down there and drop it off in the storage room....then you can fly down with no luggage, just pick up your "disney stuff" when you get there...all we have to do is find some more interested folks.

Thanks for the info about the combination lock, Carol, that is probably the best way to go.

I think this is a great idea although I'm not sure I would participate. We don't always rent a car so that would mean an extra stop for FL Tours! Annmarie

It would be like the dis storage.

It would be great for those of us that have cars. Maybe the limo services could make that an alternate stop to the 30 minute grocery stop.

I just wish WDW would do it as it would be much more convenient but like you said much more expensive.

Not sure why you would bring a blender since they are provided in the kitchen. We probably would not use this since we don't take a lot of things anyway.

Disney would have to build a whole new "storage park" to accomodate the 70,000 + DVC Members vacation stuff. :faint:

Though I guess it would be convenient to have some stuff stored there ready to go, I no longer go to my "home" Resort every time now. Last week was the first OKW vacation in 1 1/2 years. I'd hate to open up a storage bin after that long of a time. :scared:

The current situation just forces all of us to pack lightly and wisely. In fact, I had to leave things behind (unused packaged food) because I couldn't pack it to go home.
