About having pets in your RV

I know there are certain loops designated for pets but we have never stayed there and I am pretty much clueless. Is there a limit on how many pets you can have in your RV at the fort? For example are you allowed to have 2 dogs? Can you leave your pets in the RV while you are in the parks or is it mandatory to take them to the kennels? If you can leave them in the RV has anyone done that and is it safe? Has your RV ever been broken into? Next year is going to be our first time traveling in an RV and we are really looking forward to giving fort wilderness a try but the pet issue has been weighing on my mind. Looking for some help, thanks in advance

Welcome ! You are gonna LOVE the Fort !
I don't know all the answers, but I'll try. I'm sure others will give a helping hand and correct me on any mistakes.

We have 2 dogs that go with us ALWAYS to the Fort.(they love it there).You are charged a pet fee of 5.00,,NOT per pet,, just 5.00 per day.
If your RV is a completely enclosed hard shell RV, then you may leave them in your camper. If you are in a tent, Pop-Up, or Hybrid, then you are Not to leave them in the camper and should put them in kennel while you are not at your site.
Our RV is an enclosed camper, and yes, we do leave them in the RV when we are away. We have never had any problems doing this and so it seems to be safe, for us.
You will find the Fort to be one of the safest campgrounds you'll ever visit.
We have not ever experienced any break in or any criminal activity while at the Fort. However, that being said,,this is not the 1940's and I would not leave my site for long periods without locking my doors. Just use the same common sense you do when you secure your home. While the Fort is the safest campground, everyone are welcome to visit, even the undesirable have been known to camp.

We always leave our golden retriever in our Class C during the day. she is used to the pattern of coming and going, just like at home. we leave the blinds closed and leave the tv on for her. with that and the a/c, she never hears anything. she is not a barker, so that does help. while outside, make sure your pet is leashed at all times. last august, there were 2 goldens always running in the 300 loop off leash. i'm the first person to say let them be free and i was even calling them over to pet them, but i was more concerned for THEIR safety than anything else. Also, don't forget to visit the dog park next to the 300 loop; they can be off leash there!
for all this, the $5 per day fee is a bargain!

Ditto on being safe. We only have 1 dog. She stays in our MH while we are gone. Most of the time she is in the front window--watching everything. You'll love the pet loops. We've never been to the pet parks. Since it's Disney I'm sure they are great like everything else.

As PP mentioned, pets may say in hard-side campers (not tents or popups). Just make a note that Disney says that if your pets are a disturbance to others, you may be asked to kennel them.

Our 2 border collies come with us and this will be their 4th time at FW. They stay crated in our camper with the air on, blinds drawn and TV going. They have their stuffed toys and also aren't barkers, and with a good romp a.m./p.m. they're happy as clams. This year we're hoping to use the dog park that opened this year. Friendly, socialized dogs are welcome to run off leash (no puppies or females in heat). Dog park rules are posted at the entrance, but they're pretty typical of most decent dog parks.

Disney is great about providing clean up bags near the major dog walks too, so that we can all help keep the place clean.

We've never had any problem with security at FW, and in fact last year when our smoke detector started going off randomly, a nice neighbor called my cell phone (I have a pets sticker on our door) to let us know. He was kind enough to check things out from the outside and keep an eye on things until we were able to get back from Epcot. We've met lots of friendly, helpful campers at FW.

Anything that has canvas Disney figures a dog can chew his way out. [ apparently it has happened before] Yes they are strict on this policy.

wow, having a pet sticker with cell phone number on the door is a great idea! i will definitely do this next time. where did you get the sticker? i don't know that my husband would let me put a sticker on but i get around that by buying magnet sheets and cutting them to the shape of the sticker.

I've also seen pets leashed outside of the camper when their "parents" were away for the day. This is a "no-no". If you're gone, the pet must be inside - which I would do anyway for the safety of my pet.

Over Christmas 1997 when we were camping on the 1600 loop, we heard a beagle back in what seemed to be 1900, howling and howling late at night. Around midnight, a CM in pet truck went back and got the dog to take it to the kennel. The doggie's parents were just getting off the bus to head back to their site when they heard their dog barking inside the truck. They stopped the CM and asked for their dog. The CM told them the kennel opened at 8am the next morning and they could bail him out then. I don't know if Disney is as strick now, but I for one do not wish do hear someone's dog "crying his heart out" because he misses his people.

I don't know if there is a limit to the amount of dogs, but I have seen people with as many as 4 dogs.

We travel with our cats, and no longer ask for a pet loop because they do not go outside or make any noise.

We've got a situation right now where there is a beagle in a MH about two sites away from us and they let him out unattended on a lease and all he does is howl continuously. Even when in their MH they leave a window or two open and he sits in the front window howling away so that we can't even open up our windows when it's nice out. Thus I would ask to make sure if your dog likes to bark alot or is a howler to confine him/her with some background noise to reduce disturbing those around you. If our situation gets much worse the front desk will be getting a complaint.

I've always wondered exactly what the reason was - that would make sense. Although our dogs are always crated in the camper - for their own safety and so that we actually have a camper left when we return.

What's interesting to me is that twice now we've had neighbors in popups with dogs that stayed at the site when they were away. Once the dog was left in the add-a-room (not sure if he was tied or not but he was very well behaved and didn't go anywhere) and the other time the dogs were left crated outside the camper.

I stuck it to the window on our door so that if/when we need to take it off it shouldn't be a big deal. But you could definitely make your own magnetic sheet - great idea!

I would ask to make sure if your dog likes to bark alot or is a howler to confine him/her with some background noise to reduce disturbing those around you.

We actually do trial runs the first day or 2 (go out for a walk, sneak back, leave for an hour...) and always tell our neighbors to please let us know if they're being disturbed and we'll take care of it. For our dogs being quiet and content means plenty of run time before they're cooped up, along with safe chew toys (they get their meals frozen in Kongs so they're entertained for a while getting through them), AC for white noise and the TV for entertainment ...hey they're border collies - they actually do watch TV!

So far so good. When the smoke alarm was going off AND there was a strange man poking around outside the camper, neither dog so much as sniffled. We've snuck back pretty late at night and peeked in and they were sound asleep.

...hmm... then again, not so sure that's so good if someone WAS trying to break in!

We don't ever want to be "those people" and realize that if enough people abuse the system and are inconsiderate of their neighbors, we all risk losing the privilege of being able to bring out pets to Disney with us.
