Hi

I have been in contact with a DVC rep, who has been really very pleasant and not pushy at all which I really did not expect...I expected ultra sales pushiness. Anyway.....we go down to WDW next week and are considering taking her up on the offer to go check out saratoga springs to see a model villa. My concern is that it is going to eat up to much of our precious vaca time, I really do not want to have to go bus hopping with the kids to get there and then end up with a pushy sales person who will not let walk away to think it all over and I am sure the kids are not going to be to thrilled to go so is there anything they can do there while we look? I asked the rep about it and how long it would take etc...and she said we may get a little thank you prize for going...I know she just really wants us to go, and not that I am saying she is lying about the process but I would really like to hear real experiences from you all who may have done this already.

any insight into how it works would be great ! thanks !!

Actually, the kids can go with you and be entertained while you go through the models. They'll then meet back up with you for ice cream at the end. We didn't have our boy with us when we went in March (he was with his cousins) but it took about 2 hours given the time we talked with our guide and then went through the models. Overall, it was a pleasant time. They are as far from pushy as you can get and still be called salesmen. They'll take the time to answer all your questions and give you as much information as you want. You don't have to buy or sign anything other than a "We went through the tour" card at the end (I think that's for the guide's sake rather than a marketing thing). You will not get pestered with marketing material. We haven't received a thing since getting home a month ago.

Hope this helps...

The process is painless. They will pick you up either from a park (we went from Epcot on the spur of the moment) or your hotel and return you to where you need to be next. My kids loved it - they have a kids club so the kids are there during the presentation. At the end of it you all get ice cream! It actually made a nice break for all of us. There is no pressure at all! You talk to the sales person and walk through models rooms of Bay Lake Tower and Animal Kingdom Villas. Your sales person will put together numbers for you and send you on your way. We each got a fast pass with 3 instant fass passes on it (you insert it in the fast pass machine and it gives a ticket good right away). It does take a couple of hours so you do have to take that into account. Enjoy!

Ask her to have the DVC van pick you up at your resort or somewhere else that is convenient. When we purchased, our guide wasn't pushy at all. Even in the subsequent times we bought it was no hard sell. I have heard there might be a few guides who aren't as hip to the DVC way, but they are few and far between. If you take the tour, you will have a limited number of days to buy in and take the incentive or the incentive will expire.

They do have child care while Mom and Dad take the tour, so you won't have to worry about your kids. We've only gotten lemonade and cookies when we toured and bought, but others have gotten special fast passes to make up for the time you lost.

It's worth taking the tour. Number 1 they will pick you up in a DVC van anywhere on property. Then when the tour is over they will bring you anywhere on property you want to go.

Number 2 the usually give you fast passes for all in your family to make up for the time you missed taking the tour.

You get ice cream at the end of the tour as well.

Do it. If you're serious about DVC you should do the tour.

Ooooh, Oakmanner, you must be my twin. We almost said the exact same thing.

so glad i asked u all ! i did not know they would pick us up or about the kids being able to be entertained. We are serious about it so I think we will figure a good time and go see the models:) ultimatley we really want bay lake towers but we shall see ;) thanks so much all !!

You should do the tour. We also got cookies, lemonade, fast passes and ice cream. We first bought at SSR in '07 after I fell in love during the tour. We bought at BLT before seeing the models....after we saw them I knew it was right. Have a great trip!

P.S.
Don't forget to get a referral from existing DVC member.

My kids loved the Kids Club. We were telling them we are going down in Jan for our 1st DVC trip and they immediately asked if we were going back there. Which I thought was histerical.

Our guide was very nice and definately not pushy at all. She kept the tour moving, so we wouldn't miss too much of our vacation.

Definitely go - - the VIP FastPasses are truly a wonderful perk in that, when you use one, they issue a FastPass available immediately (unless FPs are gone for the day at a particular attraction). So, you can "double dip" using your park ticket for a FastPass and one of the VIP cards. Beward though: the model rooms are absolutely gorgeous, and, after seeing them, you are going to want to buy right then and there. :rotfl:

As others have said, there is certainly no pressure to buy, DVC will pick you up and drop you off anywhere you want to go on-site, childcare and snacks are provided, and the ice cream social is wonderful. :thumbsup2

I think there are Bay Lake models; why not ask to see that, instead?

Where are the models?

Agreed with getting a referral.

Where are the models?

The BLT model rooms are located at SSR. I believe that there are also AKV model rooms, but I could be mistaken about that. The BLT models have both a studio and one bedroom to view.

yep - last time i was there, both the BLT and AKV models were at SSR, so it's very easy to check both of them out.

(there's also a random model of the BWV at the boardwalk, if you're over in that area and are curious.)

DH and I just got back from our Disney vaca yesterday, and while we were there we decided to take the DVC tour. We stopped by the DVC podium at our resort the night before, and he gave us an open invitation without a time or date, so we could go whenever we wanted to. We went on Friday (day before we left) from Downtown Disney. They came and picked us up in a golf cart, since it is right next door to SSR. When we got there, there were drink stations set up with iced tea, lemonade, water, hot tea, and coffee, along with cookies. We wound up talking to our DVC representative for about a half hour or so about different things before he took us back to the private rooms. The whole presentation was very non-pushy. Never once did he say "you need to buy today" or anything along those lines. In fact, he stated that most people don't buy that day, because people usually don't want to think about finances while on vacation. The "discount" that is offered during the presentation is good for 72 hours afterward, so as long as you call within that time frame, you get the discount.

DH and I were very impressed with the way that everything works with DVC. The point system is a while lot better than we were expecting (I figured out that if you get 200 points, and stay in the standard view studio at AKV, you can stay for 22 nights in one year!). We love the fact that you are not forced into a certain time frame each year, like most time shares. And also the ability to use the points at different places around the world is a really big plus for us!

Anyway, they have models of both the new Bay Lake Towers at the Contemporary Resort and the Animal Kingdom Villas (both of which are scheduled to be opened later this year). They have models of the studios and one bedroom, and they will open the door between the two to show how the two bedroom looks. Both of the models were wonderful, and DH and I are both really really interested in this.

You will get a packet of information, including the points charts and your rep should give you the cost information (which wasn't as high as I was expecting). And your kids will go to the Playroom, where they are supposed to have playstations, board games, and other stuff for them to do (we don't have kids yet, so I was going on what the brochures said). And after we were done with the presentation (with no pressure to buy at all!) we got ice cream and a ride back to Downtown Disney in one of the vans (but it would have taken us anywhere on Disney property that we wanted to go).

If you are seriously thinking this is something you would do, it is definitely worth the 1.5-2 hours it might take for the tour (ours took about 2-2.5 because we did a lot of talking with our rep). And we had a great time too. Oh, also, because we did our tour a little later in the day (around noon-ish) we each got a $15 Disney gift card (my Mom got one too because she did the tour with us) in stead of the Fast Passes (personally I liked the gift cards better than I would have the Fast Passes. I'm sure you could ask the person who signs you up for the tour about the different options if you don't want the Fast Passes...). Hope that helps some! And sorry it got so long!

Like the pp's have said - definitely go and take the tour. You'll be able to see the BLT and AKV models, as well as see the "dollhouse" model of the Treehouses, and possibly see an SSR room too while there. The tours are held at the Sales Center at SSR, and yes, the van will pick you up and drop you off FROM anywhere, and TO anywhere. It's really hassle free. The tour/presentation only lasts about 90 mins or so, and the kids club area is great. They have a variety of age appropriate games and activities (all very well supervised), including PS2 or similar video game systems. Our kids really enjoyed it when we went. Plus the ice cream at the end is great. DEFINITELY low pressure. If you don't already have a referral from this thread, I'd be happy to provide one for you!

Take care, and I hope you enjoy the tour and your trip to WDW!!! :thumbsup2

If you are really interested in DVC and see that it could be a purchase in your near future, then I would consider the tour.

The only piece others have mentioned that might make me cautious is the loss of the incentives after 72 hours. If you think that your purchase time frame will be in the next month or so, I would ask my guide about this before setting up the tour.

The incentives that are offered when you tour are the same ones offered to the general public (with a member referral). While no one knows when they will end, if you could be locked out of current incentives simply by taking the tour and not deciding in 72 hours, it something to think about.

The BLT incentives are good right now, IMO, and if I were you, I would want to make sure before I go what the conditions will be. Of course, if you really don't see yourself buying in the next month or so, then its not as big as an issue as there is always a chance for new incentives.

Good luck!!!

With advance planning, you can also request a particular time. I went first thing in the morning before the rest of the crew were ready to get moving. They brought me back and we went to the parks. never felt any preasure.

Ask for your Fass Pass if they don't offer. We were there with another couple and it lasted a long time---of course that is because we both had lots of questions and we both bought. So they gave us double the fass passes---that was a nice bonus the next 2 days!! Don't wait until the end of your trip to go!

Is the VIP fastpass only valid that day?

My VIP cards were good for 3 days, and each card had 3 FastPasses each. They also issue FastPasses that are good immediately, even if the current window has expired. We *really* used those cards to our advantage when we went in March. :thumbsup2
