I have a ? about this. We are taking my son, daughter in law and granddaughter this fall. In our room will be 3 adults and 1 child. Two adults in another room. We are DVCers and are trying to decide between AP and the DDE and adding the dining plan to just our room. We will be there 6 nights so we will have 18 credits for Adults and 6 credits for a child.
We have 4 planned TS meals other than the ESPN club. we stop in alot at night for a quick snqck and to wild down so we would pay OOP for that.
Will we be able to share the credits between all of us until they run out and just pay cash for the rest?

Totally bewildered,:confused3

ok, I am not sure if this is what you are asking, but I will say that the dining plan is only good for the number of adults you have purchased it for.

If you have the dining plan for 3 adults, than only 3 adults can use it at a meal. It doesn't matter if you have enough credits left for 5 adults, if your key only has 3 adults listed on it, they will only let you use the credits for 3 adults and the other 2 will have to pay OOP.

Your card will say 3A and 1 C so that is all you can use if for at one time.

Yes, and moreover, you can only use Dining Plan credits to cover the meals for the folks registered in your hotel room -- no one else.

Did they change this? Last year we had two rooms; my husband was registered in one room, 4 of us in the other room. The 4 of us had the dining plan, my husband did not. We used the dining plan to pay for all of our meals, my husband included.

It wasn't a change, but rather a clarification of the rules as they have always been. Here's a screen-shot of the clarified rule:

But in reality, the enforcement of even that is spotty. A friend visited WDW in March and her dh wasn't on the reservation. CMs frequently used her DDP credits for his meals at TS and CS despite her telling them to charge her OOP for them. She ended up out of credits near the end of the trip and paying OOP for her meals but that was fine- it worked out in the end. Dont' count on being able to use your credits for people on on your reservation. If a CM allows it, then consider it pixie dust.

That is exactly what happened..we didn't plan on using the DDP for my husband, but the CMs at the restaurant said it wasn't a problem. We actually didn't pay for anything OOP because we are not big eaters and it just worked out for us.

I wasn't trying to be dishonest..I really didn't know about the rule. I went by what the CM told me, and as we ate all week, no one said differently. We are all on the dining plan this year, so it won't be a problem.

Yes, generally Disney relies on the honor system.

:) I said that my friend told the CM what was to be charged to the DDP and what was to be charged OOP. The CM charged all the the DDP. That's the guest being honest, isn't it? How can you suggest any differently?

If you don't know you ask someone in authority and do as they say. That sounds like complying with the honor system to me. What makes you think it isn't? :confused3

I think you're reading too much into what I wrote. Just read the words; there were only eight of them! :rotfl:

We just got back 2 days ago. When we checked in & paid for the ddp for 3 adults & 1 child, the cm told us that the ts meals choices for kids were pretty bad & probably wouldnt be enough for an 8 yr old but that the cs meals werent separated by adult & child so we could order anything we wanted & that would be fine. We hadn't even asked any questions about the meal plan she just told us this as she was processing the credit card.

From reading these boards, as well as the meal plan rules, I know this is not right but I didn't address it. We just wanted to get to our room & get changed & go to the pool.

Interesting. Lots of conflicting information at Disney it seems.

For board policy however, we need to stick with what Disney has in print as their policy.

Thanks for understanding.
