We have used child swap passes so I know how they work. But, can you get a pass for a child who would be able to ride something (is tall enough) but just does not want to? Thanks!

That is a good question, but I don't know the answer...but would like to.

An idea - get fast passes and do child swap when possible.

We have two kids, an 8 month old and a tall (42") 3.5 year old. One person stands in the regular line - or fastpass if we have them - with DS if he wants to ride. After they ride, then we can go on, without waiting in line. There's a designated place to wait. I've been given child swap passes before and also just told to wait in a spot - so I guess it depends on where the child swap is. Then person who didn't ride then gets to ride - and DS can even do the ride again with the other parent! When I was given the passes, they always gave me two so DS could ride again. I think they can give up to three.

*If DS doesn't want to ride, you can still get passes. The idea is that the parents (or other people travelling) will both be able to do the attraction no matter if the child wants to do it or not. We have found that if DS doesn't want to do a ride and knows this at the start that we're better off just using fastpass and having DS in a play area instead. He's not going to wait in line for a ride he's not going on. And some rides have small waiting areas which are hard to contain him in if he's just waiting for us.

You can do child swap for older children who are tall enough to ride but just don't want to...They did that when I refused to go on tower of terror when I was 10ish, my dad and I waited in the exit while my mom and DS rode...after they were done on their ride they switched out...CM's are very accommodating to families when one child can't/won't ride for whatever reason.

Recent threads have reported that some (or perhaps, now, all) attractions will no longer provide child swap passes for children who are tall-enough to ride, but simply don't want to. Don't count on being able to do so. I suppose this could qualify as one of the services Disney has had to curtail due to abuses by some.

I have used child swap many many times over the past few years.

My girls are now 7 and 10. My 7 year old is afraid of a few rides like Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain and ToT. When I approach the CM at the entrance they measure her and then tell me that since she is tall enough to ride, we cannot get the child swap pass but can swap at the ride itself. Just to tell the CM at the ride.

Child swap is really for those who do not meet the height requirements.

So what we do is we make our own 'child swap' with our Fastpasses. We are a family of 4 and we get 4 Fastpasses. My older DD uses my younger DDs Fastpass for the ride so she rides once with me and once with DH. While one parent rides via Fastpass, the other parent watches younger DD. Works like a charm.

Excellent approach!
