? about checking in at CSR and using room key to charge items?

I was wondering how well this worked, I was planning on getting travelers checks or just taking cash and handing it over at the front desk when we arrive and using my room key to pay for items, how well does this work and do they just give you whats left when you check out???

We used to do something similar. We'd put a credit card down at check in and every few days we'd go to the front desk and pay off the room charge balance so we'd never be hit on the credit card. It worked well for us.

Now we use credit cards that have rewards, so we just keep the money at home and pay in full when we get home.
