hi everyone!
we just came back from the magic and i have one question to make, since we're from a foreign country...
is there some kind of ettiquette to follow when you meet the characters as an adult? my dh wanted to give mickey a big hug (he spread his arms) and mickey blocked the hug putting his hand on my dh's shoulder...

TWICE

once at california adventure and once in toontown...

we found this hilarious, that mickey rejected him and we keep joking about it but i'm curious... did my husband do anything wrong?!?
XD
thanks!

PS: i forgot to say that mickey DID hug me and he blew me kisses and kissed my hand XD but DH... I don't know, there's something about him that he didn't like lol

We have always given hugs to Mickey and he has even given kisses....not sure what was up there?

Is your husband a scary looking biker dude by any chance? I dunno, I've gotten hugs from all the characters, and as stated above some cheek and hand kisses too.

Is your husband a big strong guy? I'm guessing Mickey (who'd often a petite she) has probably been man-handled a few times and is just in self preservation mode. ;)

lol, no, my dh is just a regular guy, he has a "good guy" face and he's not much larger than me (though he is taller, still normal guy size)
i guess he still scared mickey away XD

dh kept asking me "don't they give out buttons at city hall that say: REJECTED BY MICKEY"?!? XD

i'm still laughing about the whole thing, too hilarious XD
one would think that a mickey at another different location would act differently but the fact that it happened twice is too funny XD

i'd post the pics here if he allowed me to

Might have still been the same Cast member both times..and maybe that particular CM doesn't enjoy male hugs LOL

Maybe it's a new thing.

Either way, it's kinda funny. Poor DH!

That is SO weird! I wonder if Duffy would have hugged your DH...when Duffy first came to DCA that was pretty much his main thing. Even in November we got stickers that said "I hugged Duffy". Next time, maybe he can try that. :rotfl:

You can look at my avatar, I am not a meek looking person or really small and mickey has always given me hugs. I guess many would not want to hug me, but Mickey always does. There is nothing wrong with some bikers, you will see many in the parks during the summer by the train station.

That is really strange, I probably would have asked the CM that is with Mickey about it and found out what was going on. My guess is there was something about him that made Mickey feel uncomfortable and I would want to know what it was, so that I could fix it. After all, if Mickey feels uncomfortable around him, I am sure others would as well and I wouldn't want to be making others feel uncomfortable. I do not mean this as a jab in any way, as I am sure your husband was doing nothing intentional to make Mickey uncomfortable, which is why I would have asked.

I think that's hilarious! I think you should have a shirt made for him.... Mickey reject!

Jack, you said that SO much better than I would have, but I was thinking, "Hey, I've seen Mickey hug bikers. What's wrong with bikers?"

"Mickey Reject!" :rotfl2:

The nicest man I ever knew (who wasn't part of my family) was a biker who lived across the street. I was frightened of him and his very loud Harley, when we first moved in to the neighborhood. But then when my Mom became friends with his wife. We found out that he was a huge gardner, had a deep love for his Pit bull. He did tons of charity work. They both took care of his elderly mother. And he looked out for the two little girls in the neighborhood who played in the front yard. When strangers came to our yard and tried to talk to us suddenly there was a huge biker in the yard asking if her could help them with something. Appearances can be deceiving! :goodvibes
That being said the character won't hug my husband either! :confused3 He was rejected by every princess, Mickey and Minnie. He had to cross his arms and they put one hand on his shoulder for pictures. I think that if it's a woman in the costume she can choose not too hug men. That's my guess.:thumbsup2

Let me clarify, there's nothing wrong with bikers, it was just a joke.

My husband has gotten the same treatment from Chip & Dale. I think maybe they get suspicious if a guy looks a little too eager! We've had a great time with their 'rejection' of him.

Its good that he has a good sense of humor about it.

There probably is a policy regarding women in costume or something like that. Human Resources or something like that.

But to answer your question, I do not think there is anything wrong with asking as long as the character in question is able to say no.

lol, thanks for the replies!
yes, he keeps saying he was rejected by the mouse at the happiest place on earth, and he keeps saying that he wants a button or a badge (as in PS3 games) and that he wants to go back and get one XD

we were worried that maybe as spaniards we were too "physical" for the characters, but we've seen people hugging the characters and having lots of body contact with them, we should have been fine XD

next time he'll just give him a handshake :lmao:

this is all very funny because we usually go to Disneyland Paris, and we've been there 5 times already and we never ever got a picture taken with mickey or any other character, because they have this stupid thing that "characters are only for kids". So we waited until we got to DL to have a pic taken with the mouse ... and there goes the rejection! lol

All of the characters we met were awesome, including Mickey in both occasions :D
we have to go baaaaack!!!

Eeyore rejected me once and I was like standing there stunned not sure what to do (He is my favorite character).
He warmed up to me (or took pity) though and indicated that he was just kidding and gave me a hug after that. So maybe Mickey was just "joshing" and would have given your DH a hug eventually?
That or he just needs to stand there and look really sad so they take pity on him?:goodvibes

lol
mickey eventually let my husband get closer for the picture but the bear hug seems that it was a big "no no" for these two mickeys
my throat hurts from so much laughing about this XD :rotfl2:
DH says that in one occassion he was wearing a Star Tours tee with Darth Vader, maybe the dark side was too much for mickey to handle XD

Yeah maybe it was a Mickey 'joke' that wasn't portrayed very well. It took us FOREVER to decode the reference Chip and Dale made about DH when we went to Minnie's breakfast. DH had a black/white striped Jack Skellington shirt on. He also had a wallet chain (he wears it because at work he's moving around a lot and doesn't wanna lose his wallet). So they were TRYING to reference that DH was an inmate. We felt SO DUMB ROFL

It doesn't help that we're terrified of the characters. We were like OMG PLEASE LET US FIGURE THIS OUT FAST SO THEY LEAVE hahahhaha
