We are not DVC members yet, but are looking into buying a resale before the year is out. Right now we would like to buy 175-200 points to SSR because of the cost. By 2012, we would like to buy into another to increase our points since we have 4 kids and will outgrow the regular rooms when DS turns 3.

Ok, my question is if we have 175 points to SSR, and another 100 to AKV, how does that work? Can we book at AKV at 11 months out using all our points, or will we just be able to us our 100 AKV points and vice versa?

I thought I had this all down, but I am so confused with the DVC right now! My Dh is deployed, so it is almost impossible to talk to him about this and have him understand any of it. Thanks!

Each resort's points maintain their home -- so you can only use AKV points to book at AKV at 11 months. The other points you would have to wait until 7 months out to use them at somewhere other than their home.

You can use banking and borrowing though to give yourself more than 1 years' worth of points at any particular resort to be used at one time and get the home advantage.

It is doable, and keeps things fresh by staying different places!
We love owning at multiple resorts!

You can only combine points from two different resorts at the 7 month window. If both are under the same membership (same UY and titled the same way), once that 7 month mark hits, all points are the same

If you buy a second resort with a different UY or titled differently, it will be a new membership. and you can't use the points together for a single nights reservation. Either you have to do a transfer between contracts or you would have to book so many nights from one contract and the other nights from the other contract.

I suggest having the same use year for convenience. We have contracts at OKW(original from disney in 1994) and 2 resales at HHI all with Feb use year. The same regulations about 11/ 7 months windows as pp stated apply, but for me, its easy to know my use year for planning at either or both my home resorts throught the year. They are listed with same CONTRACT number and .1 , .2, etc after them on the member website.

AKV pts remain AKV pts and SSR pts will remain SSR pts - you can only pool them together for booking at 7 months out.

if you bank 100 AKV pts, then you would have up to 300 AKV pts to use at the 11 month window at AKV for one reservation: 100 banked AKV + 100 current AKV + 100 borrowed AKV pts. but banking and borrowing do not turn AKV pts into SSR pts or vice-versa...

This is probably THE most asked question by people considering DVC. As the others have said, your points cannot be combined until the 7 month point.

But you can, with banking and borrowing of your home resort points, book larger vacations using your home resort points at the 11 month point.

But I would also like to point out the banking and borrowing are final transactions and can cause more complication if you need to cancel even if done more than 31 days out.
