Dh and I found some good prices from Buffalo to Tampa this summer but the CAA agent warned us about how bad of an airport it is compared to Pearson. We weren't sure if she was serious or just wanted to make a sale.

So tell us, is the Buffalo airport that difficult to navigate and is it so bad compared to Toronto?

TIA:goodvibes

It's been a number of years since I flew out of Pearson, but I have to say ... LOVE LOVE LOVE the Buffalo Airport. :worship: You can park your car and walk into the terminal. You go through the one security area and go to the gate. Absolutely impossible to get lost. It's my favourite airport out of it, Pearson and Detroit.

Can't imagine why your TA would have told you that. :confused3

I'd choose to fly from Buffalo hands down!

Buffalo is a very small airport. Reasonable parking, no crowds
Much easier to get in/out and around than Pearson.
What is your agent smoking? I'm guessing something grown in a basement.

Indeed! Buffalo is WAY better!

Aside from being much cheaper (Canadian airport taxes are awful) the airport is small, quiet, and easy to navigate. Parking is under $100 a week if you park right there in the preferred lot (there is even a coupon on their web site).

I found Toronto busy and slow - took forever to check-in and clear customs on the other side. On the way back into Canada we sat in Toronto for over an hour waiting to clear customs then longer than that to get our luggage and get out of the airport. It's been years since we've flown out of Toronto, but we swore we'd never do it again when Buffalo is right there! We always fly Southwest and save a bundle.

Don't know why your TA has a problem with Buffalo - it's a great airport.

I'm a TA and 99% of the time I suggest Clients fly from Buffalo!
She wanted a sale, or truly has no knowledge of the AP there.:confused3

Another person who loves the Buffalo airport. It's small and you really can't get lost. Always great service as well. Even the security people seem happy.

Love Southwest - headed to Buffalo tomorrow.

We flew from Buffalo last year, and we loved it. Small airport, couldn't get lost if you tried.
Question for everyone, this year we decided to drive to Rochester, which I understand is about an hour past Buffalo. Flight times, and prices for our dates were better then Buffalo. I would have loved to do Buffalo, but the times were much better at Rochester when we booked our flights back awhile ago. I wish now, I would have just done Buffalo, but to change now, Airtran Airways, charges a $75.00 few for each person for the change.
Has anyone flown out of Rochester before, and what can I expect?
Thanks in Advance

Toronto & Buffalo airports are night and day.
The Buffalo airport wins hands down in every single aspect (parking, security, size)

If ever given the choice - fly out of Buffalo :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Has your CAA agent been drinking? :rotfl2:

Seriously you'd have to be nuts to think that Pearson is much easier than the Buffalo airport to navigate. We were at the Buffalo airport last June (for our first time there) and it was super easy to get through. I'd go again through Buffalo with no question.

Here's another vote that your TA was just after the sale ! I used to fly frequently for business from Pearson. Never again ! Now it's Buffalo or nothing. Wonderful airport ... smaller than Pearson, very well laid out, lots of reasonable parking ...

I think she had her airports mixed up. Buffalo is so easy.

This should be a danger signal to the OP. Trust nothing else the TA has told you. If they got this wrong, who knows how off the rest of their advice was.

Oh that is a bummer!! I knew I should have listened to myself and not my husband!

Greeclan67 - My post above wasn't regarding your question about the ROC airport. I was answering the OP's post.
In fact, IIRC, your family and mine will be flying out of ROC on the same flight (Mar. 13) and returning on the same day too (Mar. 23). We've never flown out of ROC before either but for the prices we booked at, I'll fly out of anywhere :thumbsup2

This is why I love the Dis! Thanks everyone for your input! :cutie:

I will fill dh in on all of your comments and start looking for my own flights out of Buffalo!

I would rather drive the 2-1/2 hrs to Buffalo than the 45 mins to Toronto.

We have gone through Buffalo for our last three trips to the world, and I doubt we will be going back to Toronto.

A-better price (this March 4 people Southwest $2,100 CDN, Air Canada or West Jet $3,500).

B- airport easier to navigate (1 terminal compared to 3)

C- Driving to Buffalo, you hit customs in the car instead of in Orlando (where I am ready to go see the mouse, instead of stand in line)

D- Hotels in Buffalo same (costs about the same as TOronto, no major advantage)

I think that's about it for now...but Buffalo all the way.

We're headed for our first trip to WDW in Feb. Live about 7 hours away from Buffalo between Ottawa and North Bay. We got round trip flights from Buffalo on Southwest for 4 for the unbelievable price of $1064! (that's all the taxes and everything!) The cheapest we found going out of Canada (Ottawa or Toronto) was in the neighbourhood of $2500. There is no way we will spend $1400 driving to Buffalo and staying a night in a hotel.

Even if it's my first trip - I still recommend Buffalo hands down!

And I will jsut chime in to echo everything all the other posters have said.... Buffalo is a much easier/cheaper airport!! I'd rather drive the 2 hrs to Buffalo then the 50 minutes to the Toronto Airport.
We leave tomorrow on a long weekend trip and only paid $109 taxes included per person for our flights..... and they are direct flights. How can you beat that!!

Hope the surprise isn't given away at the border Dianna. Have a great time. We head to Buffalo tonight and fly out tomorrow morning. Got our boarding passes already this morning.
