If you have one, does the water keep freezing? I can't understand it, nothing else on that shelf freezes, but every time we try to get a glass of water from the pitcher it is frozen solid. What kind of plastic is this thing made of :confused3 I've turned the fridge down, but it still happens. It's weird.

i have a brita but keep it on the counter as I prefer room temperature water...can you filter the water in the brita then put it in a different pitcher/container to cool in the fridge?

I don't have a Brita..but I have 2 PUR ones..a regular filter pitcher and a water dispenser one..and I have never had any problems with them freezing. I have one on the left side of my top shelf, and the other on the right side towards the back and never had either one of them even come close to freezing!

I would assume they are all made of basically the same kind of plastic, so this sounds very odd to me!

I've had one for years and it has never frozen.
It is kept on the middle of the top shelf

That sounds like a great problem for our upcoming science fair.

Fill up just the pitcher part with tap water without running it through the filter part and see if that freezes. I don't think it has anything to do with the container its in unless it is insulated in some way, maybe something to do with what is being filtered out.

I find that happens if the pitchers are all the way in the back of the fridge or anything else for that matter. Does this happen no matter where you put the pitchers.

Yes, no matter where I put it! Very weird, I have a plastic container of juice and a gallon of milk near it and they haven't frozen. I have cans of beer on the top shelf and they don't freeze - and they are in aluminum cans.

I'm actually taking a break from painting right now, I'll try to contact Brita later and see if they have an answer :confused3

Usually as soon as you dissolve/mix anything with water, it lowers the freezing point (by disrupting the crystalline structure that makes up ice, making the crystals harder to form). Juice, milk, beer, etc. will all freeze at a lower temperature than 'pure' water. If the temperature of your fridge is hovering around 32 deg F, then the water will freeze while the rest of the beverages stay liquid. :)

Being a scientist, I can't resist a good experiment! Can you put a regular jug of water right next to the Brita to see what happens in a few hours? Please report back...inquiring minds want to know!

ok!

My aunt has used one regularly for years, never had that happen to her.

The door is supposed to be the warmest place in the fridge, have you tried leaving it on the door?
