We have always used the DCL's insurance option for coverage (for past cruises). YET, recently, I read an article where the writer mentioned an alternative insurance company they had used which not only saved money, but offered MORE coverage! :cloud9: I was intrigued, but have misplaced the article/link. Could anyone offer a name (or names) of other reputable insurance companies which offer affordable coverage? Any/all info is GREATLY appreciated! I know I could just bypass the insurance, but I always sleep better knowing we are covered in case anything happens. :confused3 TIA! :flower:

I don't know about that one but I know of two other options. One is to just type in trip insurance in google and you come up with a ton but the one we are going to use this time is USAA which you have to be a member to (military or retired military) and it's only costing us $111 for the three of us and it gives more coverage like you say. There are lots of other options available out there!

Hey I would suggest trying www.insuremytrip.com - Its a great website that provides alot of different types of insurance coverages with different prices suiting your needs. We actually booked with this website for our first upcoming cruise in August. The company we used was travelex and it was 79.00 for two adults
Good Luck :cheer2:

Thanks for the tips! A friend emailed me earlier with a link, but the co (travelguard) wanted $340 for the three of us! I may as well stick with Disney Ins. for this price. I'm heading to insuremytrip...where I'll check-out travelex (great PRICE!). ;)

Thank you, again, for the expedient information. :goodvibes

We also have purchased insurance from "insuremytrip"...we compare several and use whatever company offers the best rate for the coverage we want. I always insure my flight, hotel, everything...not just the cruise.

We have used Travel Guard, and Access America and actually put a claim in with Access America and promptly received a check for our claim.

I found our travel insurance at insuremytrip. I was shocked how much you can save and for better coverage with a grade A (or AA) company. We are a family of five on a seven day cruise. The difference was over 200.00 .

I too...had no idea this was ever an "option" until speaking with our TA while reserving our upcoming California DCL venture. She mentioned you can save more $$ by seeking independent insurance (purchased separately).
I am pleased with the assistance, and thank everyone. :goodvibes

mmouse37~That is a great idea (to insure ALL aspects of the trip). Since this Special California MAGIC cruise is so close to home, we have no other travel plans to cover. We are simply driving to/from the L.A. port...and that's it! In the past, we have always taken the cruise from Port Canaveral, and simply paid for Disney's travel insurance. This summer...10 days after we return from our Disney Cruise, we are on a plane to WDW for the remainder of our summer plans. I will definitely check on the coverage for this trip! ;)

insuremytrip.com is great, but make sure that you also then check out the company's individual websites before purchasing. I started here and then actually purchased my last insurance on one of the companies websites as they offered more programs for less on their own website and it didn't show up on insuremytrip.

InsureMyTrip has a great website and good information - but their customer service can be terrible! There was a problem with the website when I was going to purchase and it did not come up as a secure site - I certainly wasn't going to put in my credit card into a non-secure website! I called their "customer support" and spoke with one of the rudist "service" people I have ever encountered who insisted that their website was perfect and that I was wrong. I then sent a follow-up email about the Rude service and the reply was just as rude and basically was that their representative must be right and that I must be wrong! They also were incapable of processing an order over the phone, so if you are uncomfortable with their website you cannot do business with them.

Needless to say, I went and checked the website for the actuall insurer and was able to purchase the insurance direct (from a secure site). After my experience with the staff at InsureMyTrip I will certainly never purchase directly from them! I have used their site since to compare policies and it usually is a secure site - but I still can't get over them insisting they didn't have a problem!!!

I am so appreciative of all the information and invaluable tips posted here! I am definitely getting the "hint" and will NOT purchase directly from "insuremytrip" (but from one of the insurance companies listed). I too...will never purchase on a non-secure site! Thank you, so very much, for taking the time to post such candid info based on personal experiences. The DIS is the BEST PLACE to obtain such perspective!! :goodvibes :cheer2:
