About Alamo's long lines

I haven't used Alamo since 2001's fiasco (used Buget's fastpass last year). But, I'm hoping that by so many people being able to use on-line check in, their lines will be shorter than before.

Hoping someone else will have some thoughts...just thought I'd share my philosophy!

We have only had a long line ONCE. That was this year on Dec. 10th about noon. We waited about 1/2 hr. DH has always checked in at Alamo faster than I get the luggage down to him! This year we were surprised with the wait. We didn't know about online check-in either. Now we have mid-size SUV's for our family summer trip and it looks like we can't check in online with them!

If you enroll in the quick silver program which is free you can by pass the line and check yourself in at the special quick sliver check in line.

Last year we used Budget and the line was over an hour long. I left DH in line while I used the payphone to call Budget and enrolled in the free preferred customer program. I went out to where the preferred customers check in and got my car keys then came back in to retrieve DH and all the luggage. It only took about 20 minutes from making the phone call till I got my keys
Sure beats wasting an hour of precious vacation time standing in line for a car.

I just signed up for *********** (which for some reason will be blocked out!). Is there a separate line at the airport counter for *********** people, or do you go to a desk in the garage?

We used Alamo this past Thanksgiving around 11am, we used online check in but when we passed the Alamo desk there were less than 5 people in line.

If you're talking about their preferred customer program...if you're using any type of coupon, you still have to wait in line (albiet a shorter line but, not by much) @ the terminal counter.

I absolutely dread waiting in their line...usually stand for nearly an hour anywhere from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.-yeech! Do think part of the problem is folks not knowing if they want insurance, tank of gas, etc....sorta like the people who wait in line for fast food then look like a deer in the headlights when it's time to order.

If Nat. doesn't come up w/some good rates we may forgo the rental & use ME...figure the hour spent on line could just as well be spent on the bus (might even get to resort quicker).

Our flight gets in at 10:30 pm. Does anyone have experience with lines at that time of night.

Okay I joined QS to avoid the line, but since I have a coupon I still have to go to the Alamo counter? Yuck! What good is QS then????

I have a ressie using QS with Alamo. Where is the line for Alamo, in the terminal or out in the garage area? Does Alamo let you choose your own car like National? I have mid size SUV reserved. (less than compact and intermediate)

My thoughts exactly. You would think that since Alamo and National are the same company, QS would be like EA.

the counter is in the terminal and yes you do pick your own car
