We will be traveling with 2 year old. The best flights we have found are on Air Tran. I don't mind paying the extra $6 per flight to pick our seats, however on the way home the only available seats together are exit row seats which we don't qualify for since we have a child.

Does anyone have experience with booking on Air Tran and not picking your seats? Was your family placed together or were you "at the mercy of the airlines" and split all over the plane.

Thanks for any help!!

Give Airtran a call. Most airlines hold seats back (i.e. they are unavailable for pre-selection), but they may be able to open these up for you to chose.

also if you go through Kayak you don't have to pay for your seats! We have been traveling on Airtran for several years now and have always paid the $6, but not this time.

Do they have at least two non exit row seats together? If yes, I would go ahead and book those two and book your DH in a aisle near you. The airline will "try" to assist you in getting three together at the airport, but if you have the two together you will at least have a back up plan.
