Hi Fellow ABD travelers,

We are taking our second ABD tour later this week and are doing the new Germany tour (we enjoyed London/Paris in 2016). I have read several negative reviews of Hotel Eisenhut regarding its lack of air conditioning in the summer. Can anyone here comment on that? It has me worried as we are expecting very hot temperatures. Several reviewers slammed both Tauck and ABD for using the hotel. Thank you!!

I can’t speak for that hotel directly but we spent 2 weeks in that general area of Germany one summer in a hotel with no air. We had a second floor room and were very comfortable with the windows open at night. Some travelers went to Walmart and bought a cheap fan to leave behind. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.

This is the hotel in Rothenburg, correct? If so, it was a lovely hotel. My favorite of the trip. Nothing fancy, but it was old and quaint and had lots of Bavarian charm. It was right in the middle of Rothenburg and I wouldn't want them to change it. I don't remember the lack of A/C so it must have been a non issue.

Thanks. Were you there in the summer?

It isn’t uncommon for German hotels to or have air conditioning, so finding one that has it may be difficult. I work for a German company and have many German colleagues complain how cold we keep things here Hopefully it won’t be an issue for you. Enjoy your trip

We were there in late June a few years back, and I don’t recall it was an issue in our room. We did, however, have one of our group dinners in the dining area, and it was a little uncomfortable.

Why not look up the hotel on Google Earth

Search for Rothenburg Germany then search for Hotel Eisenhut . There web site can be changed to English by clicking EN

It is a 16th Century Building & looks great & the food is devine looking

It looks as if there is an outdoor swim pool ..... so you could " Cool Off " in it

Forget Reviews ..... go with your instincts .... you Will enjoy your German Trip.

Drink the Local German Beer & Local Wine .

We did the mid-June ABD and we were on the 3rd floor at Hotel Eisenhut. There was a fan in the room and the windows open a couple of inches. There definitely is not AC.

We really like the hotel. No two rooms are the same and it is full of charm. It is unusual for European hotels to have air conditioning or screens on the windows. We did not find it was an issue.

I think it varies by country.... the vast majority of European hotels we've stayed in with ABD have all had A/C. None of the Iceland hotels had air (for obvious reasons), but I can't think of a Europen hotel we've had that didn't have it. This particular hotel sounds like it doesn't but i would say that's the exception, not the rule

Great hotel! Captures the old feel of the city. We stayed on the second floor and loved it. It is not a Holiday Inn with cookie cutter rooms where each room is unique to say the least. We did not have a problem for we had two windows as well as a fan. Slept like a baby. A tip is to never have the windows open at night with any lights on in the room....bugs attract to the lighting. You can walk the walls around the city pretty close to the hotel. It was a highlight of our trip for sure. Glad ABD kept this hotel in the tour.
