The family and I are looking to travel to Costa Rica. Has anyone tried the ABD trip there? Is it worth the price?

We did this trip in March 2018 over Spring Break - prior to COVID it was a popular trip and we had around 40 in our group, including several families from Texas also on Spring Break at the same time. I think it's a great choice. The flight there is pretty short and there was only one long bus ride. My favorite activity was the zip-line by Arenal. There is a huge variety of wildlife, nature, food and culture to experience. Whether this is "worth it" is very subjective. I enjoyed talking to other families and not having to worry about the language barrier and the logistics of getting from point A to point B. If you speak Spanish it may not be as helpful to have a guide. Good luck!

This was our very first ABD trip and we took the whole family. This was many years ago when ABD was pretty new, and some of the things we saw and did have been replaced by other activities. We were so blown away by the trip (which I thought was very expensive when I booked it, and after the trip felt it was a bargain) we've taken five more, and tried for the last three years to take many more which have gotten waylaid. This is a great way to introduce a family to international travel. The country is fantastic. We recommend it.

I do speak Spanish fluently, but I think the reason why I was asking if it was worth it was that the average price for a tour is about $2500 with other companies and about $6000 with ABD. So I guess my question is, do you feel that there was a very high level of service and that the tours were all amazing?

When we went the cost was closer to $3500-4000 for the Costa Rica ABD which I felt was worth it, especially traveling with kids. At $6000 you may want to see if you can get anything extra back from your travel agent.

We went in July 2019 with our 2 teenage granddaughters. We all did the zip line and the river rapids and had a ball despite some significant trepidation on my part to doing zip lining. The cost was about $2500 per person. That same week this year is $4549. Curiously the private adventure shows $4189 per person for 4 or 5 people. It does say prices are subject to change. Either way that is quite a jump in price for 3 years. I looked at Tauk Family tours and they have a similar tour for $3990 per person so guessing all of the prices have jumped considerably.
