ABD Backstage Magic - Summer 2010 Edition!

I don't know if anyone else was keeping track, but I wore my pedometer faithfully for the entire trip.

Sunday-9.2 miles-we did spend the morning at Disneyland before heading to Hollywood; Monday 5.6; Tuesday 9.0; Wednesday 8.6; Thursday 12.9;
Friday 6.7 My total for the ABD trip was exactly 52 miles. The daily average was 8.7.

WOW!

My brain never realized we were walking all that much since it was always so much fun to see and do what we were seeing and doing, and spending time with awesome people, but my feet sure knew it! At least I was burning off some of those decadent desserts!

Someone on our trip in April wore a pedometer and we clocked almost 11 miles during one of the Disneyland days.

I don't know if anyone else was keeping track, but I wore my pedometer faithfully for the entire trip. If you were wondering how much walking we were all doing, here is what I can tell you about my mileage. I know many of you outlasted Alan and I, so you can just use our mileage as a starting point.

I wish the trip were starting all over again. I loved every minute of it. All of the activities and events were wonderful, as I expected they would be after listening to the ABD podcast 3 times. But even better than the activities was the chance to do them with all of our fellow Adventurers! I can't find the words to end this paragraph that would adequately describe how much this trip meant to Alan and I. Thank you all for your comraderie and friendship. It means the world to us.

Anne
Thanks for the totals! We always wondered about that!

We feel the same way about friendship and comraderie. You said that perfectly and beautifully! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted before now, but I needed sleep! I think I slept more once I got home than I did on the trip! I can't believe how much we walked! Actually, I can believe it because my feet and back were aching by the last day, but it was worth it. I don't know if I will do a trip report, but I will enjoy reading everyone's reports. Kristen, I hope that your print reaches you soon. Sorry to hear that it was lost in all the craziness of traveling home. I can't wait to see everyone again on the Podcast Cruise! :grouphug:

Now I am going back to being a lurker and commenting occasionally! :lmao:

Now I first must explain that even though I've been around computers and "bulletin board" systems for years, I am still a basic "lurker". This explains my relatively low post count. (That is about to change!) So tonight I thought I would check the old ABD thread and see if anything has been posted since the trip.

OMG you guys!!! I had no idea that this thread would be so active after the trip! Ok, slap me silly, but I've said to others that I have no one to talk to about my Disney trips. Goodness! I had no idea. I guess I have a DIS home.

Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway) the trip was amazing and one of the absolute best parts of the Adventure was meeting each and every one of you. (Big hugs for all!)

The trip reports I've read so far are great. In fact, it's really intimidating because how can I keep up with you folks. You are all so expressive and creative. So maybe I'll post a few thoughts and then fill in some more details later.

Cristy - Great report so far and so complete. Love it.

Rob and Mike - Words cannot describe how bad I feel for what happened to your luggage. Keep posting what you need to replace.

Stacy and Jeff - On behalf of all of California I apologize for the unbelievably poor experience you had at the airport. I can't imagine what that must have been like, but hopefully nothing close to that will ever happen again anywhere. On a better note it was so great traveling with you. Thanks for everything and let's be sure to stay in touch.

Kristen - I died when I read that you lost your print. This is so like something I would have done, so I can totally relate. I do hope it gets back to you. And if it doesn't get returned, please let me know. I get down to the parks regularly and I will see that you get a replacement. Thanks for letting me tag along with you.

To everyone.... I have so many thoughts that have been racing through my head the last couple days (and during the 7 hour driving trip home!). Let me compose a bit and I'll write a few more thoughts. For now, it was wonderful. It was magical!

(You know, in some ways I do not want to go on another ABD Backstage Trip. I don't want anything to dilute the memories of this trip. I don't want to compare them. I don't want to replace them. Does that makes sense?)

Your new friend,

Wayne

My print has arrived - yahoo! :cool1:

Now to buy a frame to show it off in!

Kristen, I'm glad you got your print!!! I bought the same one you did, what an amazing man Joe Yakovetic is.

Well, we finally got home last night. What an amazing trip we had. It was so great and we meet so many new friends. I am starting to read the trip reports and listening to the pod cast. What great memories.
After staying over 3 extra nights, they cancelled the Price is Right. So after getting up early and taking a cab the guards told us the show was cancelled.
So, we took a tour of Hollywood which was pretty good. The next day we took a tour bus to Sea World. That was fun, Mary or I had never been there before so it was good.
Getting a ride back to the airport was bad. We thought we would try 1-800-blue-van. They were late, they picked up 7 more people at 3 other hotels and the driver just threw the luggage on top of ours. He did drop us off in front of United so we did curb side check in and it went pretty fast. But, next time we are getting a private car. We were used to being treated so special.
We had trouble getting to California, but getting home was easier.
It was a great trip.

Kristin, we are so glad to hear that your print arrived safely, and that it was the correct one. The way the airports were operating last week, I wouldn't have been surprised if they sent you a print of Elvis! Another happy Disney ending:yay:

Wayne, it was so good to hear from you! Glad you had to hear that you had an uneventful trip home. Don't worry, we definitely do not judge all of California by LAX! I understand what you mean about not wanting to dilute the magic of the trip. But after doing 2 trips, I can say they are different and special in their own ways. There is now more for us to love about Disney! (21 more reasons I can think of off the top of my head:love::grouphug:)

Nichole, it's good to hear from you as well! I think we really got to the bottom of the problems with fast pass!:rotfl:

Yeah!!! I am so glad you received your print! I need to find a frame for mine as well. Going shopping this weekend to pick one out!

Pam - I'm sorry that you didn't get to see the Price is Right. I know Mary was looking forward to it. I'm glad you for a good tour though. I'd like to go to Sea World. On my next CA trip, I'm going to add a day for it.

I am so excited that everyone continues to post! I love it! It feels like an extension of our trip, and who wouldn't want to extend that great adventure!

Your trip reports are great, so I don't feel I need to write one. Thanks!

Wayne-I'm so glad you checked back to the ABD thread. I can really relate to your thoughts on taking another adventure. It feels like it could never be as good, or the people you travel with be as great. Realistically, I'm sure there are many, many more great DISers to travel with, but our group was fantastic. How many of our group are going on the podcast cruise? Could we plan an ABD reunion on the cruise-or any other time or place? Count me in!

We felt the same way about the airport. It's the only downside. So sorry to hear about the show.

Rob-Is there anything specific you need for scrapbooking or just as memorabilia? Our daughter is in the park almost every single day and I know she would pick up anything from the park that was available. Personally, I think I'm going to ask her to track down the 55th anniversary prints by Joe. I'm sorry I didn't get one while I was there.
