ABD Backstage Magic - Summer 2010 Edition!

Just trying to book airfair what is the best time to arrive and leave for this? what time do we need to be there to meet the guide at the renaissance Hotel and for to Dinner. and what time is the breakfast on the last day.

ABD requests that you arrive at LAX no later than 1:00pm. I will arrange transportation to take your the Hollywood Renaissance.

Breakfast is served from 7:00am till 9:00am on the last day of your Adventure.

You can book airfare to depart any time on your last day....even late into the evening, if you wish to enjoy the parks. You will still have one day's admission on your provided ABD ticket.

We're carrying that late evening departure as late as possible. Our flight leaves LAX at 11:55 pm on the last day! :lmao:

Guess what I got today? My trip confirmation documents. These documents have made this trip seem even closer!!

Oooh! Something to look forward to today, perhaps? After all, I'm a little further north! ;)

I was hoping that I would have received my documents yesterday...but no. I'm holding out hope that they'll be in the mail today.

I'm doing a lot of waiting right now...
  • ABD documents
  • Tracy is on vacation so won't receive my Podcast cruise quote until Monday
  • iPad is ordered but won't ship until the 25th

I'm on pins and needles. :) All good things though!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my docs will come today. It's so hard to be patient when you're excited about all sorts of trips and goodies. :)

AMEN!

Has anyone thought about clothing to bring on the trip? I've been looking at the weather in LA and it has been mid-70's but the lows are high 50's. I'm leaning toward capris (compromise between pants and shorts) and bringing a light jacket for the mornings/evenings.

I've been thinking about that too. Capris sound like the easiest compromise and the most versatile. I'd looked at historical weather for July and it's supposedly between mid-80's to low 60's. As hot as it's been in Florida, the low 60's or high 50's will feel pretty chilly - and WONDERFUL. :)

What kinds of clothing do folks usually wear on this trip? Level of dress? Opportunity to change clothes if you're really unprepared for changes in weather?

Other than a couple of dinners...this is a very casual trip.

Even with the "fancier" dinners, you will be fine with shorts / top (women) / collared shirt (men).

Club 33 has a "park clothes" dress code.

If you are prone to being chilly in AC...I'd bring a light hoodie / jacket.

Just an idea....

If you are looking for somewhere to dine during your free Hollywood night, we found a couple of places within a block of the HRR.

In the H&H complex, we tried Shabu Shabu. It;'s an usual Asian style restaurant where you cook your own dinner in pots of seasoned boiling water at your table. It was fun.

We also ate at The Grill (also in the H&H complex). It's an upscale steakhouse that was so good...we went there twice.

And finally....The Roosevelt Hotel is less than a block away. This is a historic Hollywood landmark. The first Academy Awards were held here. Toward the back of the first floor is a tiled staircase where Bill "Bojangles" Robinson taught Shirley Temple to dance in a famous movie scene. This is an elegant old landmark that has been restored and has become hip all over again.

As you walk in the main entrance, there is a bar on your right. They serve KILLER burgers with a huge list of possible toppings, awesome sweet potato fries (share these...the portions are big) and adult milkshakes (which were a big hit with ur group).

The Roosevelt Hotel and the Tower Records building (also near the HRR) are the recognizable LA buildings that get destroyed in every disaster movie.

Thanks for the ideas Kevin! Are these places that we could make the decision once we are out there...or should we make reservations?

Speaking of the free Hollywood night, how much time will we have that night? Enough time to fit in a show at the El Capitan plus dinner...or something?

I dont think you'd need reservations for any of these places.

Keep in mind that your "free" night in Hollywood is a Monday evening. I cant imagine these places being that busy on a Monday.

The amount of time you have "free" will depend on when you finish touring.

You should have plenty of time for a movie and dinner.

The El Cap is across from the HRR and all of the restaurants I've mentioned....plus many others...are within a one block radius.

Yippee! I got my documents today! :cool1: Interesting suggested reading and essential reading list... I have some of those Disney-related books on my shelves already.

Kevin, thank you for the clothing, touring and dining suggestions. So many options, so little time... ;)
