ABD 2010: Disers Go West - Let the Fun Begin

We got to the Austin airport this morning at 5am after driving here through the night. Bad thing is that we were here over 4 hours before our flight. We went and had some coffee and grub at Waffle House and are now at the gate anxiously waiting for our flight. It's hard to believe we will be in LA in just a few hours! Woohoo!

Just checked in for our early morning Monday flight. Still fighting my stupid cold, but got a good night's sleep last night, which has to help. Must have my cough and sniffling under control in the morning so they don't take one look at me at the gate and tell me I can't get on the plane.

Kathy should be there soon! Anxious to hear from her.

Have a great time everyone! I am super jealous that you all get to go for the beginning of food and wine festival. Guy Fieri is going to be there the first two days.

I expect lots of pictures and reports back. We leave for LA on May 23rd!

It's 7:42PST and I'm awake as well.

I'd like to say that I've become an early riser....but this is what happens when you pass out at 10:00PST.

Hopefully, things will be a bit more normal tonight.

It's 58 degrees here this morning.

Had dinner at Shabu Shabu (thanks Nancy!) last night. It was something I've never done before.

It's a kind of Japanese fondue where they bring you raw vegetables and meat and you cook it in a pot of boiling water on your table.

I never expected to enjoy boiled Kobe beef....but it was delicious and our waitress looked like and talked like Lea Michele from Glee.

The food was good and I was deliriously tired. It made for the perfect meal and with the restaurant in the shopping mall attached to the hotel, it made things very easy.

John's out getting coffee and it's my turn to get ready.

Oh yeah.....we're playng Diser "Catch and Release" today. Be on the look out.

7:42pm??? Slacker!! I have already been up for 3 hours!

Just landed in Tokyo after a horribly bumpy flight from Singapore. I know people have mentioned the jet lag factor, but get this: It's 3:30pm Sunday here. When I land in Los Angeles, it will be 9am Sunday. So, I'm actually going to be travelling backwards in time on this next flight! How's that for messing with your internal clock! See you all soon.

When you get here you will arrive 6 hours or 7 hours before you even left Tokyo!
My DH was in the Air Force and flew there all the time. Just get sleep on the plane and you should be ok.
You are the time traveling Diser!!

The bags are 95% packed. Just printed our boarding passes. Have a very short, 45 minutes, in Las Vegas to change planes for LA. If there are slot machines in the airport we might be in trouble making the connection.

Kevin - I'm glad you liked the Shabu place. We enjoyed it and I thought it was definitely someplace you would like - glad I made a good call.
I won't tell you about the Beard Papa's cream puff at the bottom of the big staircase down to Hollywood Blvd - on the first level - directly under the Shabu place. Addicting... You design your own, too....


Tomorrow night will be Yamashiro up the hill. Mary Jo is joining us, too. I'll be picking Anna and Kim up at 7-7:15. Can't wait. The view is to die for and menu is a drooler...

I have everything packed.
Now to load the car and we are off to the airport in a mere 40 minutes.
Then for the wait to board the plane.
