ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

Sounds like a wonderful night, I would love to see a Cirque show someday. :goodvibes

How funny that the firework mimicked the octopus float underneath it.

Great update Liesa! Now there's two more things I've never done to add to my list for my next trip. I'd already planned for La Nouba, but sitting on the Poly beach with a mai tai watching Wishes sounds wonderful! Actually, I guess there's 3 things I've never done, I've never seen the electrical water pagent either. Hopefully I'll knock all those out next visit. I just wish I didn't have over 8 months to wait!

Terri

What a wonderful night! I've heard you have to experience Cirque at least once - you have confirmed it again! It was so sweet of Mary to get the tickets for you!

Nice plan for fireworks and dinner on the beach!:thumbsup2

Those pillowcases are so cute! What a nice idea Mary!!!:lovestruc

I absolutely loved Cirque and, even though I didn't understand the story line, the non-stop acrobatics was spell binding. It was the fastest 90 minutes of my life. I agree that everyone should treat themselves, at least once.

The rest of your evening sounds perfect and those pillow cases are adorable!

Great Update Liesa !! Mary I would have been upset with the camera too!!!How cool that you got to see the Water Parade and the fireworks !!Watching them from the Beach at Poly is on my To do list now !!!!

I didn't know there was a storyline for La Nouba. I am glad I know b/c I am sure I would enjoy it more knowing the background. (Not that I'll get to see it any time soon, but one day:thumbsup2)

Your evening at the Poly sounds fabulous, other than the pool bar closing early.

The pillowcases are adorable. Any chance of finding out who made them? I have been looking for something cute to get signed on the cruise for Caitlin but don't want one with a character since she changes who she likes every 5 minutes.

The clouds continued to threaten as we walked up to the will call window to grab our tickets that Mary had so incredibly generously bought as a gift for us! Mary, once again, THANK YOU for treating us to such an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience!!

Well, that sure was nice of her!

As for the show, I’ll say that it COMPLETELY blew me away! I have NEVER seen anything, except possibly Les Mis, that was so completely mesmerizing, amazing, and theatrical as this. But it was also quite puzzling. Had the 3 of us not taken time to study up a bit on the plot, characters, and storyline for this production while waiting for the show to start, we would have been completely like, HUH?! BIG piece of advice here: If you go, (and I HIGHLY recommend that you spend the money and do someday!) PLEASE read a good synopsis and character list beforehand. Although it’s a beautiful in and of itself, knowing something of what you’re watching will ratchet up the enjoyment by a hundredfold.

I'm torn on this. I've never seen La Nouba. It's an expensive ticket, and as an engineer, you can probably guess how much I enjoy things that are abstract. But of course I want to be open-minded for new experiences. I think what I'm saying is my open-mindedness has an inverse relationship with ticket prices! :rotfl2:

The evening was young yet, and we still had a bit of enjoyment planned so, after a bit of goofing off, we left for “home”- after all, it was our last night in our tropical paradise. So what haven’t we done yet to make sure we made the most of our Deluxe stay?

Steal towels and bathrobes! :thumbsup2

By now, we are completely loopy from lack of sleep, and a massive overdose of having too much fun, so Mary decides to do some slalom. I yell out, “I’m gonna die laughing if she gets herself hung up on one of those things!”, and I swear on my mother’s Laila perfume that’s exactly what she did!! But only briefly.

I'll apologize to Maroo in advance for laughing. Now that that's out of the way...

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

LOOKY!! EMPTY CHAIRS!!

:woohoo::cool1:

What to our wondering eyes…. We got DOUBLE WHAMMY! For just as the parades passed in front of our vantage, Wishes began bursting forth in all its wondrous glory above and behind the twinkly lights of the barge barrage. I’m not sure I can adequately put into words the spellbinding, marvelous scene unfolding before us. They piped in the Wishes music (thank Heavens they were not playing both soundtracks!) and we sat nearly hypnotized by the beauty given to us. Imagine soft sand on our toes, warm evening air, children bursting with excitement at every new design, a sweet drink in hand, and the best company one could dream of. Of the many moments on this trip, this was quite possibly one of the best.

Wow, that's really cool! I've seen both shows from the beach there but never simultaneously! You were really blessed with some magic.

I had been sort of digging around and eating it blind, so to speak. Imagine my horror when I took the requisite picture for you all, and looked at my preview screen finding THIS!!!

Ah, presentation is overrated. As long as it tastes good, everything's ok.

But when we got to the room, we discovered why Mary REALLY went back to the room early:

She was stealing towels! Oh, wait...

She had had some amazing cute pillow cases sewn up by one of the DISBoutiquers for each of us, and that’s what we used from then on to gather character autographs. They were so sweet, and personalized with our favorite characters! AGAIN, thank you, Mary! I absolutely adore mine!

That's very, very sweet! :goodvibes

Liesa, I really loved the latest update. Sometimes the best times are just spending times with friends - and WDW can be a wonderful background for that. :goodvibes

Liesa -- beautifully written post about DLR. I mean that, you painted an indelible picture with your words about the fireworks at the end of the day.

Mary -- you are so admirable for all that you do! :goodvibes

Awww, thanks! I am feeling so behind, but sure hope to get the next Pee Before Pooh up soon! Meantime, I"m busy with houseguests arriving today for an overnight stay, a ball tonight (Western themed!), and a weekend re-enactment. Then school starts Monday morning!! So lots on my plate right now!

Actually no. :rotfl: which was wonderful! We all wanted to eat and drink...um..all the time.

:lmao: yeah, I got the feeling THAT trip would have been like that- I MUST go on the next one!!! ;)

With school back in swing I'm sitting here online monitoring homework instead of hitting the gym. :sad2: Hopefully it will level out soon.

Ok, you keep telling yourself that. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Liesa,

I really love your DL updates - makes me want to return there more and more every time I read a new update. The pommes frittes look delicious - but at lest in Belgium they were a thicker cut. However, they did have all kind of mayonaise with spices available in Brussels, so I think your sauce looked pretty authentic! ;)

I think DL's fireworks show has changed since 2005, but I remember that in 2005 I thought it was much better than Wishes. I think the smaller castle actually works better with the fireworks... Ah, I love all Disney fireworks, but now I really want to see them at DL again...

I am sorry that your daughter hates school, I hope things will improve over time! Hopefully she will soon find a few friends who will make her feel more welcome there!

And finally: good luck with your own first day at school! That's coming up soon as well, isn't it? :goodvibes

Glad I"ve inspired you to want to see the DLR show even more! They really were lovely, and the storyline was so sweet!

Anara is doing better in school now. I went in and talked to the school counselor who had a nice talk with her and re-assured her that she is doing fine. The other issues like a noisy table group were ironed out as well, so all's good to go, I hope!

Yep, I start Monday morning! Yikes!!

Phew. I am slightly less confuzzled. ;)
:goodvibes

Liesa,

Sorry I've fallen behind. I've been stuck in all-day training sessions and haven't been able to catch up on the DIS for a couple of days. I read the latest DLR chapter and am more determined than ever to go and see the differences between them and WDW for myself! At the very least, I need a Monte Cristo and some fancy-pants french fries! :rotfl2:

I think it's worth a pilgrimage at least once! Any real Disney fan would want to go see the Motherland, right?

If even for the fancy pants fries :)

Howdy!

Liesa - another great DLR update! It is so interesting to me to hear the differences between DLR and WDW. We hope to get to DLR in the next year or two. The detail of the carrots through the roof is so cute and so Disney - glad you captured it. Love the description of the fireworks - no photos necessary - you painted a lovely visual with words! So sorry to hear that Anara is struggling with school. I hope it gets better for her. I am sure it is very hard for her to relate to other girls whose biggest focus/worry in life is cool clothes from Justice, Justin Bieber, etc.

Thanks, Jen! Glad you enjoyed the last PBP update; there's more to come, but could take a bit before I can get to it. Lots on my plate right now!

Anyway, things are looking better for Anara and school. The morning fights are gone, at least. :yay:

The DL fireworks in 2005 were beautiful but I was much less impressed last Sept. In 2005, it was the 50th anniversary show and it was much bigger. This last year it was still beautiful but it was all off to the side of the castle. I thought we had a great spot in the middle of the street but we were too far down the street and some of it was behind a tree.

We also enjoyed those "fancy pants French fries" on our last trip. They were tasty and it's just fun to say pomme frites. Later in the week we walked by the restaurant and there had been a fire in the kitchen. They had evacuated everyone and I wish I had taken a picture- all the different tables abandoned at various stages of dining was almost eerie. Those people just finishing made out pretty good, but I felt sorry for the people who were at the tables that had just gotten their plates, I think I would've tried to take it with me!

WOW!! A kitchen fire, and some folks got out with a free meal? That might be a first! :lmao: Those fries were so good!! I could totally have had them as my main meal no problem!

Liesa, I don't have time to comment on everything (seems I'm catching a plane today), but I loved your last update and the firework photos are great! Love the pic of you in the pool...looks like you were having a blast.

Hi Liesa! You are such a suzy homemaker!:thumbsup2 Your family will really appreciate all your canning efforts in the months to come!

I'm sorry about school - Anara? It is sometimes so hard to hit your stride in a new classroom. I hope things go better soon. I didn't see your post on Tuesday - I've been thinking about you alot. I'm leaving town this evening for an Arbonne retreat up at McKenzie River. Jim will be home in a few, so maybe next week? Miss You!

I should take a picture of my pantry- I'd actually make a nice shot!

Yeah, it'd be so good to talk!

I like your insight on La Nouba. I found the one I saw in Vegas, called KA, to be very abstract as well. I'm guessing all their shows are like that? I love the abstract style and acrobatics don't get me wrong. I was just confused at times what was going on. At least it's a show that makes you think once it's over. I must say you did well eating sushi in the dark. Who cares what it looked like so long as it tasted good, right? Actually Bubba did the exact same thing once - eat sushi on the beach. That sounds kind of seductive doesn't it? :rotfl: She had a hard time eating it too. It's one of those things that requires the presentation to be eaten properly. Great pillow cases!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking... all of them sort of artsy-fartsy and such. But spectacular nonetheless. And yes, they indeed do make one think.

It did taste really good- the fish was very fresh, and I really liked it!

HAHAHAHAHA, yeah, I guess you could say it sounds seductive. :lmao: "Hey babe, wanna have sushi on the beach with me?". What a pickup!! :rotfl2:

what a sweet idea on the pillowcases, those are adorable!!!

It sounds like an amazing night all around, full of wonder, awe and lots of laughs. Perfection.

Yea, kinda like your book and coffee on the balcony moment! :thumbsup2

When I went I was in section 205. Just put up that post. :) As for knowing the story to help- yeah that would have been helpful, I had no idea there really was a storyline. It just seemed random. :confused3 Great show but random. :rotfl:

You did my every trip must do - a Mai-Tai on the beach with EWP and Wishes.

You had them going at the same time?????? Usually it is EWP and then Wishes unless wishes it at 9 then it should be Wishes then EWP.

I so can see Maroo going through those poles. :lmao: Find that video.!!!

I"ll look again for that video- it sure isn't where I thought it was! Hmmm... :headache:

I think the EWP and WIshes ended up being the same time because everything was totally screwed up from the NIght of Joy stuff going on. I dunno- all I know is that everyone on the beach was pretty stoked as we were! I'm not sure I've EVER heard of that happening!:banana::banana:

Sounds like a wonderful night, I would love to see a Cirque show someday. :goodvibes

How funny that the firework mimicked the octopus float underneath it.

I'd save up for it! It was really a treat!

Yeah, totally coincidental, but very cool!!!
:cool2:

Liesa, I don't have time to comment on everything (seems I'm catching a plane today), but I loved your last update and the firework photos are great! Love the pic of you in the pool...looks like you were having a blast.

:woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay:

It's today! IT'S TODAY!!!

Have a great flight, and I'll watch for FB updates!!!

I've been traveling and so am way behind on DISing. But....nice job on getting that post at the top of the page! :thumbsup2

I had no idea that La Nouba had a storyline! I'm not sure if it's a valid comparison, but hearing that there's a storyline reminded me of the show "Cats!". We went to see it and on the way my mom said you should have read this book: "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". I don't know if it would've helped, but I HATED the show. Absolutely hated it. Part-way through I seriously considered going out and hanging out in the lobby, which I would've enjoyed more. Anyway, enough about that.

Wish I could have seen Maroo on the slalom course. Now that sounds like a good show! And speaking of Maroo....so nice of her to give you those pillow cases. And what a great idea to get character signatures on them!

Terri

I'm sure you can do it!! You can knock off 3 of them in one sitting, if planned for the right night. :thumbsup2 And keep up that planning and dreaming- it sure helped my wait go faster! :surfweb:

What a wonderful night! I've heard you have to experience Cirque at least once - you have confirmed it again! It was so sweet of Mary to get the tickets for you!

Nice plan for fireworks and dinner on the beach!:thumbsup2

Those pillowcases are so cute! What a nice idea Mary!!!:lovestruc

She is such a generous, wonderful friend! Mary, come out to play!

Yeah, since we'd already gorged on burgers and ice cream sundaes, we certainly didn't need huge dinners. Actually, I think LeeAnn and Mary went over to Capt Cooks, or whatever it's called there, and got something else? Hmm... MARY, what'd y'all get??

I absolutely loved Cirque and, even though I didn't understand the story line, the non-stop acrobatics was spell binding. It was the fastest 90 minutes of my life. I agree that everyone should treat themselves, at least once.

The rest of your evening sounds perfect and those pillow cases are adorable!

That's exactly it! You can still LOVE Cirque without any foreknowledge as the acrobatics are a.m.a.z.i.n.g! I really thought it was an evening well spent!

Perfect in every way- like Mary Poppins on my pillow case!:thumbsup2

Great Update Liesa !! Mary I would have been upset with the camera too!!!How cool that you got to see the Water Parade and the fireworks !!Watching them from the Beach at Poly is on my To do list now !!!!

Thanks, Rosie!! yeah, although I wasn't too annoyed, I can see how it might have been really so for some.

Both of those at the same time was such a special treat! :woohoo:

Don't trade out Wishes for ONLY on the beach- it still needs to be watched from Main Street at least once on each trip too! This was just a bonus since we'd already had a long day, and had seen it from where it's supposed to be watched.

Yes, someday you really should treat yourself to the beauty of Cirque :)

I can't fathom why they'd shut a bar down just about the time folks are comign back from parks and are ready for a nightcap!! :sad2::confused3 It was baffling!

Mary will have to say... I'll give her a call and see if I can find out for ya.

Well, that sure was nice of her!

It certainly was!

:rotfl2:

Yeah, I can see that! If you don't like the abstract art forms, that's ok, I still think you'd be completely wowed by the acrobatics alone. Do you like Lion King?? It's that, but a zillion times better! A circus with panache and TOP quality performers.

Steal towels and bathrobes! :thumbsup2

YES!! We had only stolen mugs from the value so far!

I'll apologize to Maroo in advance for laughing. Now that that's out of the way...

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Let me add a bit more: :lmao::laughing::rotfl2::laughing::lmao:

Wow, that's really cool! I've seen both shows from the beach there but never simultaneously! You were really blessed with some magic.

YUP!

Ah, presentation is overrated. As long as it tastes good, everything's ok.

Considering you ate at that X-Wing Fighter Diner... I have to consider the source of this expertise....:rolleyes1

She was stealing towels! Oh, wait...

Theft is MY department.

That's very, very sweet! :goodvibes

Indeed!

Looks like it's time to start planning a 2015 trip - new "land" coming to AK!

http://www.digitaltrends.com/movies/disney-world-partners-with-james-cameron-for-avatar-theme-park/

Hmmm... having never seen the movie I'm not sure what to make of this. I do know a bit of the theme and "message" of the movie, and this actually doesn't surprise me, given the philosophy and ethos of the park itself. Very interesting indeed!!

Liesa, I really loved the latest update. Sometimes the best times are just spending times with friends - and WDW can be a wonderful background for that. :goodvibes

Exactly!! I really can't think of quite the same kind of wonderful background for making memories.

Never saw that one, but indeed it does look highly abstract, and for a guy, I think that'd be hard. I walked out of Alien, but that's a different genre all together.

Hope your road trip was a good one, Glenn! You are WAY more caught up than me, and I'm not out of town! Geez, it's been tough!!

You should have seen her load onto the busses by the end of the trip! Amazing! :worship:
