ABC Commissary--something for everyone???

We booked a late lunch at Hollywood & Vine as part of our Fantasmic package next week, so I think a table-service dinner might be just too much food on the heels of a buffet. So, it's counter service for us. I vaguely remember eating at the ABC Commissary once. Is it the best counter service restaurant in the studios? My husband and I are adventurous eaters and like ethnic food--no cheeseburgers or dogs for us--and the kids could go either way depending on how "out there" it is. Should we head for the Commissary for dinner or the Backlot? I know people say there are wraps and a curry and hummus, but frankly I'm finding it hard to get a comprehensive dinner menu online for either place.

We USED to love this place and ate there on all of our trips. But 2-3 years ago things started to take a drastic change and we no longer eat there. We used to love the Cubans and the kids had a great noodle and vegetable bowl. Both are gone.

Sadly this would not be a place I would recommend to anyone until they drastically improve the quality of the food. :sad2:

The Commissary gets a lot of complaints these days. I hear that the burgers aren't as good as other places. But DW likes the chicken curry and I like their fish basket (fries are the same as everywhere else), so we usually stop there on each trip.

I would say head to the Backlot! At one time we sort of liked ABC Com. but, the last two times we went there for lunch, it was horrible! Just plain disgusting food all around! I really don't think DHS has any real great CS places, but we will not return to ABC Commissary anytime soon!

Not fantastic, but not awful..has been our experience. The fish basket was pretty good.

Food at ABC Commissary was not good.

Back in September, the first day of our trip we ate at Pecos Bill's. The hamburger was delicious. The last day of the trip we ate a hamburger from ABC Commissary, and it did not taste like a good burger at all. I will not go back here unless I hear that the food has improved. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, I don't know, but there are too many counter services to have lunch.

Dirt might taste better then the food at this restaurant.

For complete menus look at allearsnet.com. Personally, my experience at ABC Commissary was the worst meal I have ever had on Disney property. But you may have a different experience!

I would guess that if you were to do a poll here on DIS and asked what the WORST restaurant whether it's CS or TS is, I"m sure the overwhelming winner(or should we say loser would be)

ABC Commissary!!!

This place is the worst dining experience I have ever had in WDW and darn near anywhere else for that matter. The Cuban sandwich(no longer on the menu) was terrible, and the hamburger had me begging for something better like McDonald's.

My advice about the ABC. Turn around and run, don't walk, but run as fast as you can from the entrance and find somewhere else.

It's pretty vile. Worst counter service meal we had on our Sept. trip and quite possibly the worst CS meal I have ever had.

I can't speak for DW, but I would not eat at ABC again unless a substantial amount of money was involved. Say, enough to put our entire extended family up at the Grand Floridian for a week. During peak season. Plus dining, park passes, and some spending cash for each day.

One bout of food poisoning is generally enough to convince me not to give a place a second chance, and since it generally receives the worst ratings of any CS or TS on property, I doubt that it has improved in the last few years.

I've tasted dirt and I agree it taste better. I will take dirt, clay, sand, or mud anyday over this place. :lmao:

I'm with you; however, the word vile may not be vile enough to describe this place. :rotfl:

This may be a tempting offer, but it's still not enough for me. You would have to add another week to the deal, include concierge level in the main building, the chefs table at Victoria & Albert, and the DxDp before I would even consider it. :rotfl2:

Even though the ABC Commissary does not seem to be popular on here, my family and I enjoy going there and have never found anything wrong with it.

Hello;

We ate at Commissary in 2006... I liked the Cuban Sandwich..and the fam was satisfied...

However....in 2008....I had to be "extra careful" with meals because youngest DD had "decided to be vegetarian" and had other picky eaters as well.... so went with Sunset Market ...which is between RnR and ToT ...and has many CS food options...
Catalina Eddies: Pizza, Sub Sandwich, Salads, etc.
Toluca Turkey: Turkey Leg, Hot dogs, salads
Rosie's: Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Chicken Nuggets, veggie burgers
Fairfax Fries: Now should have the "Cosmic Rays" Rib / Chicken plate.....

we all split up and got our meals...and met up at a picnic table and had one of the best meals ever....

I wholeheartedly agree!!!
Our meal there was truly, truly AWFUL!!!!
It was so horrid that I wanted to look around for Allen Funt*
..or
Ashton Kutcher

*In case you are too young to know Allen Funt;)

ABC Commisary is awfull! Disney should really upgrade the quality of food there. I would go hungry before I eat here again.

Okay, but I see by your signature you are a Leaf fan and anyone who can root for a team that hasn't won the Cup in 43 years is obviously too easy to please. (Don't get me wrong. I started watching the Leafs back in 1964 as an 8 year old and was a fan for 35 lean years after '67 before I finally said uncle).

We ate there a few years ago and the only one of us to really enjoy our meal was our older son and he had the Cuban sandwich which is no longer on the menu.

As for decent CS at DHS I suspect the Leafs will win the Cup before this happens.:rotfl2:

Hey, watch those easy to please. I live in the Cleveland area and root for the Browns, Cavaliers, and Indians. We have not had a championship in any major sport since the year I was born which was 1964; and I'm still hard to please.:woohoo:

Sorry , but this has to be the worst place in the DHS. We have tried it 3 separate times and all 3 the food was abysmal ( cold, hair in it etc) we won't go back.
