Abandoned Attractions

...Disney is exempt from most state and local regulations... but not federal ones. So they can't just build a nuclear plant without going through a certain process.

They also aren't immune to certain regulations. They do get to write them, but they also must adhere to them and they need to at least meet minimum standards. It was often said that Disney's building regulations were much more stringent than those in Florida. And since they have to file the permits with the county, they have to pay the filing charges, and that is perhaps where the costs are different.

The Hot Set building next to TSM used to be a walk through attraction where you can see film sets (one time it was 101 Dalmations) now its just an eyesore, please build something there.

Fusion World is slated to open in the near future. It will feature a restaurant serving really hot food, a gift store specializing in glow in the dark (forever) items and a rollercoaster type ride with speeds in excess of 400MPH. The best part about visiting Fusion World is that it is guaranteed to be around for a long long time, with a half life of over 700 million years! We won't be reading about this attraction in the abandoned attractions thread!

Hmmm . . .

I miss the antique store in Liberty Square (where the Christmas shop is now). Talk about one of a kind souvenirs! I bought quite a few interesting little things in that store! I also miss the pizza they used to serve at the Plaza Pavillion (now known as the Noodle Station), and I miss the medieval style store in the castle. I also miss having a branch of my bank on Main Street - I used to actually go to MK to do my banking just because I could! I miss real orange juice in the citrus swirls.

I miss Bonfamilles Cafe at POFQ. It just doesn't seem right not to have it there! They had some excellent food there and interesting ambiance. I miss the Papete Bay Verandah (sure I butchered the spelling there!) at Poly too, as well as the Coral Isle Cafe (where Kona is now).

I miss Epcot circa 1980's - period! I miss the photo ops with Dreamfinder, that first bit of World of Motion where you spiraled around outside and the city of the future near the end, the DNA room in Horizons that always made you feel like you were spinning as well as being able to pick your own ride ending, Tomorrow's Child in SSE, the touch screens for dining reservations and park info, NOT having to climb that huge hill between France and UK because the bridge between them was level (no Epcot resorts to need boats), and Figment getting a buzz from paint fumes in the all white room of Imagination, and the Stepping Tones in the Image Works. The Odyssey restaurant used to have really good pie! Those were some great times!

I miss the monorails where everyone had a seat and no one had to stand. I miss annual passes with a photo on them instead of a magnetic strip.

I guess of all of that, the Odyssey, Image Works, and Bonfamilles are still "there" but unused. But sometimes it doesn't matter if the place is repurposed or torn down, it's still missed.

I miss that attraction as well, but somehow calling a soundstage located in a theme park designed around the film and TV business an "eyesore" misses the mark.

Papeete Bay Verandah was just about our favorite place on earth (not just at the "World") to have breakfast. We still miss it, even though it's been 30 years since our last meal there!

So considering there aren't really any mountains in Central Florida, Are the ones in this pic holding the show building for this attraction?

It's the 'coaster.

"Expedition: China Syndrome"

I was completely blown away by Epcot when it opened! The World of Motion and old Imagination rides were both excellent. And Horizons was just incredible and always a special favorite of mine. They all had great music and audioanimatronics and the themes seemed to really fit the later Epcot theming to me. I miss them all and don't think that any of the replacements do them justice.

I wholehartedly agree with you! I experienced the closest thing to time travel on my first trip to WDW in 1991. As a small child I had gone to the 1964-5 World's Fair and had been mesmerized by Ford's Magic Skyway and the GM Futurama. Imagine the feeling I got when I rode through Horizons, World of Motion and the Universe of Energy. It was simply amazing to have that same sense of wonder and awe that I experienced as a child. Aside from Energy, none of the current Futureworld attractions have the same intense magic as the "originals"...

(only 10 days to go!!!)

Just some more Disney Magic. You only think you see mountains in the background. Forced perspective, I believe it's called.

What do you mean no mountains in Central Florida?

Space Mountain...... Splash Mountain........ Big Thunder Mountain..........

...In other words, it can do any thing it wants within the grounds including building a Nuclear Power Plant if they wanted too...

Now that's what they could put in as an Icon to replace the controversial Sorcerer's Hat at DHS...a nice stack for the reactor, Mickey ears and all. They could convert 'Backlot Tours' to 'Three Mile Island Tour'.

To complete the theme, they build a new Value Resort called "The Fallout Years". All rooms could be underground bunkers.

.. and I don't think anything will.

I think the problem is all the neat huge neat super wow stuff has already been invented.

Think about Star Trek or Dick Tracy communicators back then if someone handed you a cell phone no matter what size and they let you call home. You would be like Dude I'm like calling on a phone with no cards in the middle of Epcot.

Today if someone would hand you a phone with 3d holographic video conferencing projection system you would be like meh whats the battery life like and can I get a good data plan with it. :goodvibes

All "built" by Disney, and 2 of them are Show buildings in the classic sense, 1 more of a dressed support for the show.

You also forgot Everest.

But my point (in the joke) was that the picture showed mountains all around the reactor complex, so since there are no "natural" mountains, they must've been Disney creations for the purposes of the attraction.

Not an "attraction" per se, but "abandoned and rotting" nonetheless.

Man I've always wondered what those buildings were from google maps and etc..

What was the reason behind them abandoning it and create the All-Star resorts?
