I finally finnished the After Adventure Report from our recent stay at the fort. It's a bit long, so, I'll break it into parts.

At some point, I'll post photos. Watch for them.

Hope you enjoy it.

Ft. Wilderness Trip 2007

We had a wonderful stay in the fort recently. We started out by an overnight stay in St. Augustine, in a wonderful little hotel on Vilano Beach. The weather was perfect and we slept with the patio doors open so we could hear the ocean.

Sunday Dec. 9th

We got up early to watch the Sun rise over the Atlantic. Unfortunately it was kind of foggy, so, we didn't actually SEE the Sun rise…but it was close.

After the free breakfast in the lobby (not at all bad for free), we cruised on over to WDW and checked in, or tried to check in, at the Fort. When we got in to the lobby, it was quite full, up until the point when the manager came out and told folks that if they had put a card on file, they didn't have to check out, just to leave. Then the lobby cleared out. The 10th was the end of Pop Warner week, so, by the time we had everything set up in camp, our loop, 2000, was mostly empty.

After check-in, we went over to DTD for lunch. We had a coupon for Planet Hollywood so we gave it a try. It was OK at best. The food wasn't bad at all, but, the wait staff was indifferent and the music was way too loud. Perhaps it was the Christina Aguilera video, perhaps it was other things. We wandered around DTD for a bit afterwards, then, headed back to set up our tent. It only took us about 1/2 hour to set up, and, as our HDD reservations were for the 5:30 show, we took a nap.

The HDD was as fun as ever. Because there is just 2 of us, we got Table 13 again. Front row center. If you haven't seen the show, make plans and go. We love it.

After dinner, we took a boat ride over to MK which was closed for a Christmas party, so, we went back to the tent and enjoyed the quiet.

Monday Dec 10th

MGM (Hollywood) Day.

I always have fun at MGM and this day was no different. We started out with a nice mini-breakfast at Starring Rolls (I love cheese Danish), and then on to the Great Movie Ride. Has anyone else ever noted that there is one of those 'Drinking Birds' in one of the windows in the "Alien' section?

After that, we hit the Muppets, Star Tours and Indiana Jones and then lunch at Catalina Eddie's (pizza). We got a bit of magic in the Tower of Terror when we got a ride on the elevator by ourselves, and also at the Rockin' Roller Coaster when they gave us a double ride. I am still not sure if the RRC is better from the front or the back. The Boss almost got in trouble from one of the Hollywood police after she kicked over some traffic cones in the middle of Sunset Blvd. She is bad!

Again, I didn't get my photo with Mr. Incredible!!! It's a shame too as we look so much alike. (You did know that they used me as the model for Mr. Incredible right? At least for Bob Parr  )

We enjoyed the parade from the steps of the ABC theatre, front row center even. I really enjoy the parade here as, there usually isn't that big a crowd, and the characters are more interactive (at least the walking ones). Jafar gave me a very nasty look, just because I 'boo'ed him! Of all the Nerve! We also met a very nice young CM from a small South Georgia town that I have visited several times in the past. She was very nice and made sure we had a good view of the parade.

Lights Motors Action was as good as ever, but, there was a small glitch when one of the hero cars failed to appear from behind the buildings. They covered for him well until the car showed. We slipped into the last Back Lot Tour after that, and, were pleased to see that there were actually people working in the prop rooms. The sun set early, so we hit the Osborne Lights after that. We got a nice time in there before Fantasmic let out and everyone from that show came over. Dinner was at the Sci-Fi and was un-inspired, though I loved the desert. We headed back to the bus stop early and were back in our tent before we knew it. Unfortunately we had some new neighbors who didn't quite understand the way things work at Ft. Wilderness. They were playing very loud and very bad rock music (I could have dealt with it had it not been so BAD), and drinking around kids. The Disney folks were called after 10:00 and they got quite real quick. (It pays to have direct phone numbers via our 'Passporter'

Magic Kingdom DAY! HOORAY!

Another beautiful day at WDW. Breakfast was at the Kona, so we got up early and I pulled out my beautiful Mickey Mouse Stick that my wife made me because we would be at Mickey's VM Christmas Party that night, and, I wanted to show off! It is a wonderful thing. It is painted yellow (for the shoes) at the bottom. 1/2 way up, it changes to red (his shorts), and then the head is black with two large round ears sticking out at an angle. If they were straight up and down, I couldn't use it because my hand wouldn't fit around the ears, but, with it at an angle, I get a nice grip. It still needs some work, but, it's still a wonderful thing.

Anyway, we hopped a boat to the CR and Monorail-ed over to the Poly for Tonga Toast (me) and a full eggs and bacon (the boss) breakfast. I love the Kona and relish every meal I get there. After Breakfast, we again hopped on a boat, this time to the MK. We JUST missed the opening. Then, through the curtain and the magic began!

I had heard a rumor that the Goofy statue was gone from in front of Tony's. It's still there, but, doesn't laugh. I am hoping that will be remedied soon.

As per our tradition, we headed straight to Adventure Land for our first Jungle Cruise of the day. I am glad to know that the 'Hippo' joke has returned….I missed it greatly. Pirates was amazing as always. I noted that they have repainted the beltway to the gift shop, making the peg-leg print much more visible.

Then there was the Haunted Mansion. I will NOT reveal what they have done with the HM, but, I will say that I love it more now than I did even before! It is spectacularrrrrr!
Everything else was great, but, the HM has stepped into a whole new plain of entertainment.

We then did something we haven't done in a very long time. We went over to Tom Sawyer's Island. Polly's is gone, but, there are still things to do. I wanted to explore the cave system and we actually found a cave we haven't been in before. It's the first cave when you get off the boat that says it's a Mine. We also went through the escape tunnel from the fort, which was rather brave of me as I am rather claustrophobic and that tunnel has some very narrow parts. But, I made it through with only a slightly elevated pulse.
The other passages don't bother me as they are all rather wide, but, the escape tunnel is narrow and I am not. All in all, we had a good time on the Island.

Something we noticed was that everything just seemed brighter and more crisp. I later figured out that the last time we were there, it was very smoky from the fires in Waycross and everything was just dull. This time, I just kept my air of euphoria the whole time we were on property.

We ended up in Frontierland eventually and hopped on the train for Main Street as lunch was back at Trail's End. I really like TE's buffet and was NOT disappointed. We needed to pop back into the tent anyway, so, it wasn't even out the way.

The afternoon resulted in my wife getting another butt-kicking from me in Buzz, a great time in the Laugh Zone and all the fun therein in Tomorrowland. We edged round into Fantasyland where the lines were rather short, and ended up back at the HM again. We also enjoyed a ride on the Liberty Belle. I love the view from the top deck.

Dinner that evening was at the Crystal Palace and I enjoyed the carving station muchly. I also love the chicken fingers on the kids table. They are great for munching on while in line . Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eyeore were all in fine form and lots of fun that night.

We got our bands for MVMCP after dinner and ran over to the Jungle Cruise to get the last ride of the day. Our skipper was an older guy who was just dry enough to make the whole thing quite hilarious!. We then just wandered the park, just enjoying Cindy's place and the whole atmosphere. If you didn't get to see Cindy's place in all it's Christmas splendor, then I shed tears for you. It is beautiful. Cookies were munched and Chocolate was drunk and fun was had by all.

We watched the 10:30 parade from right under the Main Street Clock and had a fine time. They have added a few new things to the parade, including a miniature Corvette driven by a guy who was either on drugs or needed to be on drugs, I haven't figured that out yet.
I also noted that Scrooge McDuck was in the parade. Has he always been in the parade and my brain was too addled to note? He is one of my favorite characters and I hope to meet him one day.

After the parade, which ended at 11:15, we didn't have much time left to do much, but, we did what we could. A quick boat ride back to the Fort and a not so quick wait for a bus (we were tired of walking that day I can tell you) got us back to the tent by 1:00.

Wednesday Dec 12th

EPCOT

Breakfast? Did we eat breakfast? I think we stopped off at the Meadow Trading Post and got doughnuts (whole box, 1 snack credit!).

We got to EPCOT later than we normally would, but, that was ok. We got us some fast passes for Soarin' and road through the greenhouses, noting which bit we would be eating when we had dinner at the Garden Grill. We Imagined (getting a free picture from Kodak in the process) and ended up in Canada enjoying the new 'Oh Canada' movie with Martin Short. It is silly, but, it actually shows you what is happening NEW in Canada, while keeping much of the old footage from the original. I was glad to see that they kept the part with the people skating on the canal hauling the older folks on sleds to be left in the snow to die. (A JOKE!)

We then popped into Images of France, where I managed to leave my hat on the floor. No one noticed, but, the very nice CM let me back in after the next show was over, so, I recovered. When you have a hairstyle like mine, you need to have your hat! We also picked up the next day’s breakfast at the pastry shop. It’s amazing how well the pastries stand up in a backpack.

Lunch was in Morocco, which was wonderful, and then we boated back to FutureWorld as we were hoping, and succeeded in, getting into Spaceship earth! They were running a sneak peak and we got to go…Twice! Or car wasn't working well the first time through, so they sent us around again. It is defiantly different, but, is it an improvement? I am not sure. There is at least one scene that speaks to me, and, as a 70's and early 80's home computer jockey, well, when you see it, you will know.

We then headed over to the east side of FutureWorld and were disappointed in that TestTrak was down, and, down hard. We never did get a ride. But, we did do Mission Space (Orange Team only) We were grouped with another couple (French I think) who didn't quite get what was going on until they had us lined up ready to go into the pod. They backed out, so we were left flying the spaceship by ourselves. We then went by Ellen's and I managed to get a Dinosaur out of the CM in the anti-chamber when he was asking the names of famous dinos. He forgot about 'Sue' the T Rex over in Animal Kingdom, and, I didn't.

We then scuttled round to Mexico, where I bought a very nice pull-over sweater? thingie that is very comfortable and warm. We also took a cruise down the River of Time and I think I do like the new version better. We got to ride in a boat by ourselves, but, it was a wheelchair boat, so, it was hard to snuggle up in that one, I can tell you!

They have also cleaned up Malstrom, but, they didn't change anything. I am hoping that we will get a new movie there one day.

We finally made it back over to the Land for our Soarin’ fastpass and then to The Sea. The Crushman was as entertaining as ever and we got a very nice time with the Manatees. We also stopped by the Visa Meet and Greet for our freebie. Then we went to Mars again, this time with a couple of British Teens who ‘got it’ when it started up.

Dinner was a Le Cellier and was as delicious as always. After that, it was time to head back to the Fort.

Thursday Dec 13th

Animal Kingdom

This was the kind of day you want to go to the Animal Kingdom. Short lines and cool weather were the ticket! The breakfast pastries from France were yummy still, and, with a stiff cup of coffee in me, I was ready to go.

We always do three safaris when we can, so, we headed straight over to Africa. They have changed the storyline a bit, but, the animals are still there.  The Tommies were scares. When asked, the CMs said that the Tommies were almost all pregnant, so, they were being kept in the back. We got plenty of views of Rhinos, Elephants, Hippos and all the other great beasts of Africa. Everest was of course spectacular. I like sitting in the very front of Everest and taking video or photos of the view from the very top. You can see forever there!

We did have an interesting time with Devine at one point. We were walking the trail between Africa and Asia and came across her in her usual spot, wrapped around the light poll by that last gate. While shooting a few photos, we noted a woman in front of us, swaying with Devine and telling her Thank You for your gift of life and how wonderful things were. It was kind of scary if you think about it. But, then again, some people turn off their brains when they go to WDW, some leave the brain at home.

We found us a nice seat in front of the restrooms in Africa for the parade and had a chat with a CM who was from our home. We live about 8 miles from where he grew up. He was very friendly and actually came back to talk to us later. We shared a seat with a nice family from London, En. who were on an American vacation. We offered pointers and everyone had a grand time.

After a full day at AK, we hopped on a bus for the Swan and Dolphin to head back to EPCOT. Dinner was at Chef de France and so we wanted to enter through the International Gateway. We also wanted to catch up with Captain Mike (Captain Birdman) who sails the Friendship boats. We found him when we disembarked at the gateway. It’s always nice to find a friend! Dinner was fabulous and we had a nice walk back to the park entrance and then back to the tent. Unfortunately, while the Boss took a nap, I got stuck listening to a group of VERY whiny people staying at the WL. These folks were not happy with the bus service, the room service, the rides or anything else. I so wanted to ask them why they bothered to come down if they were so unhappy, but, I was tired and didn’t feel they were worth the effort. Fortunately, the Bus took them to the WL first, so I did finally get some quiet.

Friday Dec. 14th Going Home Day

….no WAIT! We got a extra day because my supervisor needed to switch with me. We got to go back to the Magic Kingdom for anther day! Breakfast was at Trails End to go and we popped on a boat to MK where we spent a wonderful day. We road rides, saw shows, went through the Haunted Mansion several times again, it was a wonderful peaceful day. We took a cruise back to FW for lunch at Trail’s End and back to the park for more fun. We had a great Jungle Cruise skipper who was very athletic. At the point where we try to avoid Switzer (sp) Falls, she didn’t just lean, she leaned almost all the way out of the boat. I was much impressed.

The park closed early for a MVMCP, and, we had an 8:00 at the Garden Grill, so we headed back over to EPCOT. I really like the GG as, not only the food is quite good, but, you get lots of interaction with the characters. We got to visit with Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale twice! We made it all the way round the turntable before dinner was through and had a much better trip back to the Fort after that.

Saturday Dec. 15th

We finally head home.

Beside going home being the worst part of any Disney Trip, it was a fine day. We still had a couple of meal credits, so we drove over to Coronado Springs to breakfast at the Pepper Market, which is a great meal and a great deal! After going back and packing up, we went over to DTD and spent money on gifts and spent our last credits at Wolfgang Puck’s. Our trip home after that was nice and quiet and (as we didn’t do A1A at all) we were home just in time to hit a Christmas Party at 7:00pm.

A great time was had by all!

CtL,

Great trip report. I just love reading about everyone's trips and wishing it was me. August is just too far away.

For the life of me I can't figure out how Planet Hollywood stays open:confused3

Sounds like you had a wonderful time! We were there the week after you and it brought back some fantastic memories!!!
Can't wait to see pics!

I didn't have any problem with PH per say. It was just too loud.

The place I was most disappointed in was Sci-Fi. We ate there a few years ago and it was great. This last time, it was uninspired, to be polite (the desert on the other hand was wonderful).

Wow awesome report, we are going in about 5 weeks, I CAN'T WAIT!!! We are dining at hollywood and vine for the dine and dash. Have you ever eaten there? I hope its ok.

This has to be the BEST trip report I've ever read!! You made it interesting and descriptive, yet managed to avoid boring us!! You must actually be a librarian, because you have a wonderful way with words. Have you tried your hand at writing a novel or short story? If you haven't, you should!!

Thank you for taking the time to share your trip in such a wonderful narrative!

Great trip report :thumbsup2 Sounds like a wonderful, laid back trip. Perfect. I am looking forward to the pictures.

(By the way, you might ask, is that all the photos you took? Actually I took over 1000 photos and several hours of video on the trip. These are the photos that passed muster. You know, not too fuzzy, not to embarrasing. Thanks for viewing!)

Thank you for the kind words. I feel that my reports would not be near as good if:

1. My wife wasn't such a very good planner

and

2. WDW wasn't such a great place to go!

Who knows, maybe one day I'll come up with a novel. Stranger things have happened.

And Yes, I am a Librarian. Have been for 20 year now.

Great pictures. I especially liked the ones of the castle at night. What is the make/model of your camera? I hope there are more pictures of the Fort than just the road and the lawnmower tree. Can't wait.

Unfortunately, most of the pictures of the fort are in video format and I will have to convert them or capture parts. I am working on that.

I have a Sony 403/DVD camcorder. It uses DVDs as a storage medium and I can get up 5000 photos on one disk (so so quality) 1 hour of video (also so so quality) or 1000 high quality photos and 20 minutes high quality video.

We've had it now for about 3 years and have gotten our money out of it many times over now.

I'll make a special post of fort pictures as I can.
